A dash of Disneyland, a spoonful of Downtown Disney, and a sprinkling of online shopping make up the recipe for this delicious Disneyland Merchandise Update. Ingredients include some the hottest new Marvel merchandise, a bitter development in doll packaging, a variety of sweet Ear Headbands and accessories, plus other treats.
A Peek Inside the Parks
This Disneyland Merchandise Update includes a sampling of some of the items we found scattered inside Disneyland Park. On the whole, the majority of the goods we saw inside are also available in Downtown Disney (some of those shown in this section are as well).
Main Street, U.S.A
In the Emporium, we spotted this quartet of cropped long-sleeved shirts decorated with classic Mickey Mouse and the Disneyland logo. I know I have said this before, but I am not a fan of the whole “crop pretty much every shirt” trend and I can’t wait for it to fade out of style.
In an upsetting turn of events, the Classic Princess Dolls have reverted back to plastic packaging in the Emporium. Earlier this year, in an effort to be more eco-friendly, Disney had switched to plastic-free packaging for their Classic Princess Dolls line. Beyond being better for the environment, I personally found the cardboard designs more creative. And potential buyers could still see the dolls in person via glass cases nearby. Now, as you can see, the cardboard boxes, as well as the doll display, are no longer there. I’m hoping that the stores are just moving through the remainder of the older plastic packaging, but I also want to be realistic here. Come on, Disney, you should be better than this.
This Funko POP! Orange Bird pin was an unexpected merchandise sighting for two reasons. The main reason was that Funko’s presence at Disney Parks has previously been limited to POP! vinyl figures, so this pin in their POP! style was a surprise. The other reason was that Orange Bird merchandise, with a few exceptions, is exclusive to Walt Disney World. You can purchase this interesting find at the 20th Century Music Company.
New Orleans Square
The Haunted Mansion will soon be transformed into the Nightmare Before Christmas-flavored Haunted Mansion Holiday and the themed merchandise is already starting to materialize. We spotted this Ear Headband which is returning from last year’s Halloween season at the merchandise cart near the attraction’s exit. Overall, it has a Jack Skellington motif, as evidenced by the pinstripes on the ears and the character’s bat bow in the center. Oogie Boogie along with Lock, Shock, and Barrel hide on the backside of the ears. An array of embroidered bones decorate the outside of the headband itself. If you missed out on this one last year, now is your chance to add it to your collection.
Themed to the traditional Haunted Mansion, this Ear Headband replaces the bow with one of the gargoyle sconces from the Stretching Room. Many beloved Mansion residents decorate the ears along with “999 Happy Haunts.” Some of the accents in the ear’s art as well as the gargoyle glow under a black light.
Did you know Loungefly makes things other than backpacks and purses? Here is a Loungefly-branded baseball cap with a print full of stylized art of some of the Haunted Mansion’s ghosts.
This folding hand fan decorated with the Mansion’s sinister wallpaper pattern is also sold at the merchandise cart.
Head into Port Royal Curios and Curiosities to find these Hitchhiking Ghost-themed socks.
Gear for the Spooky Season
Fashion designer Betsey Johnson contributed to the recently-released, edgy Haunted Mansion merchandise line with several pieces of jewelry. Like many of the items we saw last week, photographs from inside the attraction are a focal point for two of the pieces’ designs, the necklace and one of the pairs of earrings. The other pair of earrings we saw had sculpted Hatbox Ghost “heads” hanging from jewel-encrusted, safety pin-shaped hangers.
Disney Tails has new Halloween costumes for your beloved (and hopefully, accommodating) pet. Ranging in sizes from XS to L, these new outfits let your furry friend dress as the Magic Carpet from Aladdin (with Abu along for the ride), Flounder from The Little Mermaid, Pascal from Rapunzel, and Sven from Frozen. My favorite is the Magic Carpet. It is a more creative design in my opinion but I wish they included a few more sizes as other Disney Tails outfits are sometimes sized from XXS to XXL.
World of Disney is also starting to add in more Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. Oddly, the plushes we spotted are all previously released designs.
If you’re looking for more Disney Parks Halloween merchandise, you’re in luck. Walt Disney World has received plenty of not-so-spooky merch and plenty of it will be headed out to Disneyland in the near future. Get a preview of the Disney Halloween goodies in the article below.
Shang-Chi and Friends
The latest Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, hits theaters on September 3 and some themed gear is also sold at World of Disney. In fact, the movie has a whole island and a relatively large display dedicated to it.
Included is apparel for kids as well as adults, and several toys, including some for roleplaying.
The island has some shelf space for a handful of different Hasbro action figures. Three of them are from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Shang-Chi, Death Dealer, and Xialing) but the rest are other Marvel characters.
Nearby is additional merchandise for other Marvel heroes. There is a crossbody purse and windbreaker, both themed to Captain America, plus a new Spider-Man shirt.
Odds & Ends
Next, let’s take a look at the merchandise that I just could not fit into another category. There’s stuff from all over Downtown Disney. Let’s take a look!
World of Disney
This sequined leopard-print Mini Backpack from Loungefly is an interesting creature, indeed. While the design is not my cup of tea, this accessory was flying off the shelves, even as we were attempting to photograph it.
This adjustable Minnie Mouse Ear Headband is softer than the common variety and has an adjustable strap at the bottom. I rather like this style and would love to see it implemented more.
A new plush puppet has joined the ranks and it’s Dug, that lovable pup from Disney and Pixar’s UP! He is soft and squishy good boy, who would also make a wonderful cuddle buddy.
This metal water bottle has a floral and Mickey pattern all over it, except for where it says “You had me at Disneyland Resort.”
This Raya and the Last Dragon D-Tech iPhone case design shows the heroine poised for action within the silhouette of Sisu the last dragon. It is great to see some more merchandise from the film pop up again.
Okay, this Mint color collection is not really 100 percent new but with some of the pieces flickering in and out of stock, I wanted to highlight what was available recently: the Spirit Jerseys (both for people as well as pets), the face mask made by Spirit Jersey, and the Minnie Mouse sequined wristlet from Loungefly. The bucket hat and the Loungefly Mini Backpack were not in stock.
Disney Dress Shop
The Disney Dress Shop offers a pair of new Ear Headbands. The first is a very fancy one from Baublebar, with flower shapes formed from gems on the ears and a black and white tulle bow. The other is a simpler design made from tan faux leather and a suede bow. It’s a cute design but the texture reminds me of a basketball.
Feeling more in a shirt mood? There’s also two new pocket tees, one with a Walt Disney quote and another with a sleepy Lady from Lady and the Tramp, as well as an allover print shirt featuring the Wilderness Explorers’ logo as seen in Up.
Disney Home
The Disney Home store is home to several new mug designs. There are Mickey and Donald-inspired mugs with silicone lids, shaped like the top of the respective character’s noggin.
Caffeine always helps unlock my imagination. I don’t know if that is the inspiration for this lock and key mug and stirrer set, though.
This Mary Poppins mug uses her magical tape measure for a handle and is decorated with her embossed silhouette amid a background of penguins, carrousel horses, and other symbols from the movie.
One side of this mug says “If you love me let me sleep” and the other simply says “love.” This is a nice callback to the Lady and the Tramp shirt seen above.
Star Wars Trading Post
It’s not very often we mention Downtown Disney’s Star Wars Trading Post but they have a very special new item that we simply have to highlight, this Loungefly Backpack with Grogu from The Mandalorian. This Backpack is bigger and a different shape than the Mini Backpacks we commonly see sold at the Resort. And the little alien’s ears are posable! Such a fun feature!
Loki Gets Some Love
One of Good Smile Company’s latest cutesy, posable figures is none other than the God of Mischief himself, Loki! Nendoroid Loki: TVA & President Ver. comes with tons of accessories to help collectors recreate scenes from the marvelous Disney+ series.
Accessories include the smiling and winking facial expressions as well as a mini figure of Miss Minutes, a TemPad, the Tessaract, the outfit worn by President Loki along with his crown and hairstyle, plus the show’s logo.
The preorder window for this figure, which ships in June 2022, closes on September 16, 2021, at 12pm JST. It costs 8000 yen (approximately $72).
Loki fans will also want to give this crochet pattern for the character’s horned crown/helmet a look:
