World of Disney is OPEN with New Merchandise at Disneyland

Disney lovers flocked to Anaheim last Thursday for the public opening of Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District. MiceChat was there to share it with you, and we of course visited World of Disney, which was the number one draw for the larger than expected crowds. Disneyland 65th Anniversary Collection

We were excited to see a good portion of the newly-announced Disneyland 65th Anniversary Collection merchandise in stock. In fact, some of the merchandise available had not be shown previously.

The Spirit Jersey is definitely one to keep an eye on as it is certain to sell quickly. The front has Sleeping Beauty Castle on it with the words “Disneyland Resort” and “65 Years of Magic” on a corner. And the phrase “The Happiest Place on Earth” runs across the back. Oh, and the fabric actually sparkles! 

The Camp Shirt shown below is covered with Disneyland Park icons and the number “65.” And can we just appreciate that they included not only the Hatbox Ghost but Mr. Toad as well!

Here you’ll spot the 65th Anniversary Celebration Ear Headband, which holds a striking resemblance to the one created for the 60th Anniversary Celebration. The accessor is joined by the women’s high-low cut shirt, which has Sleeping Beauty Castle along with “The Happiest Place on Earth” and “Disneyland 65 Years of Magic” on it. The bedazzled elements on the shirts wording will certainly look pretty when the light catches them.

Along one of the walls, we found this white hoodie. The back graphic on this one is the Disneyland Park map and tuxedo-Mickey, again with the wording “The Happiest Place on Earth” and “Disneyland 65 Anniversary.” The front has a “65 Years of Magic” on it.

These socks have the original Disneyland sign woven into them. It is a cute idea but we can’t help wondering how comfortable they would be.

This mug has the original Disneyland sign on one side with a stylized Sleeping Beauty Castle on the other. The handle, which is shaped like the “D” is “Disneyland” font, makes this mug extra-special.

This charming ornament features Mickey and Minnie in their celebratory attire with Sleeping Beauty Castle serving as a backdrop.

This display showcases not only the previously-seen Spirit Jersey but a few other items as well. The adult mannequin shown on the right sports a t-shirt with a pocket decorated with the phrase “65 Years of Magic.” The child mannequin’s t-shirt is emblazoned with Mickey Mouse’s visage along with the words “The Happiest Place on Earth.” That Mickey plush the “kid” is holding is also part of the collection. A fun detail is the message of “Disneyland Resort – 65 Years of Magic” found on the bottom of one his shoes. And this family of dummies are all wearing their Disney face masks! 

Over on this display, we catch a glimpse of a kids ruffle sleeved tee featuring art of Minnie Mouse.

Final Thoughts on the Collection

The items we saw here today at World of Disney were lovely and we will definitely end up purchasing some items, but they do have a very similar look to the 60th Anniversary Collection. Both collections had a mainly blue color scheme and similar items like a bejeweled Ear Headband and a tuxedo-wearing Mickey plush. Thankfully, that is not the entire collection. And some of the items (not all) are even available to purchase at a special online shopping event on July 14 at 10am Pacific. So it is not as disappointing as it seems.

World of Disney Walkthrough

Walking up to World of Disney from the Disneyland Hotel side of Downtown Disney, it looked like the store might just be open to walk right in. 

Oh how wrong we were. We ended up waiting in a line that stretched from the World of Disney to the ticket booths on the Harbor Blvd side of the Esplanade and back again!!!

While Disney CMs were asking guests to social distance, the fact is that folks just don’t know what 6′ is unless they see markers on the ground. Once we got closer to the store, that situation improved, still, it was unnerving at times. Once in the store, there were very few guests. However, even with the much lower crowd levels, folks still bunch up at the good stuff.  

The store itself feels much the same. And the merchandise mix really hasn’t changed either.

So is Inside Out merch . . .

Pride season came and went (June) while the store was closed, so there’s a lot of rainbow merchandise for the parks to sell out of season. 

These cute little Park Pals will hold on to your hat, bag, lanyard . . . 

Mulan merchandise came out in at the beginning of the year in anticipation of the March release of the new live-action film. The film was then pushed back when theaters closed . . . and pushed back again. So there’s still a lot of this merch to sell as well . . . 

The Mickey Mouse section has taken over the seasonal spot in the middle of the store. This is where holiday merchandise will go in the fall.  

It’s all about the bags. Loungefly bags are everywhere. There’s sure to be a style for everyone. 

The new square-shaped purple castle logo design is the newest that we have seen at Disneyland. Over at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World, two designs, one themed to the Enchanted Tiki Room and another to Mickey Balloons, were more recently available. We assume those two will make their way to this coast as well.

Masks are 4 for $20. One of the most affordable items in the store, and perhaps the most necessary right now.  Lots of styles to choose from.

Other Things to Note

World of Disney was not the only store to score some new merchandise. At the Disney Dress Shop, located next to Marceline’s Confectionery in Downtown Disney, guests can now purchase a Jungle Cruise-themed dress.

And finally, Disney also introduced MerchPass, their new online system for purchasing high demand items on shopDisney. Merchpass be utilized for the first time for the next release in the Disney Castle Collection, Arendelle. The entry period will run from July 13 at 7am Pacific through July 14 at 11:59pm Pacific. The graphics below explain the 1-2-3 process. Choose items to be entered into a lottery – check your email – pay for your purchase: 

Hopefully, this new system will help make purchasing these types of merchandise at least feel fairer. It imposes a lottery selection per item as well as limits the amount of each item a guest can buy. Only time will tell how guests will react to MerchPass but we are optimistic about this change.
