Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2026: All 8 Houses, Our Top 4, and a Sloppy D’oh

Halloween Horror Nights is open at Universal Studios Hollywood, and this year’s event is the biggest the park has ever staged, running a record 42 nights from Sept. 3 through Nov. 1, 2026.

There are eight haunted houses, six scare zones, the returning Purge stunt show, and a Terror Tram hijacked by Art the Clown, who has quietly become the host of the entire event. You’ll run into him more than anyone else in the park.

New this year, and a first for the event, is the Unmasking the Horror Tour, a daytime lights-on walkthrough of the Sinners and KILLceañera: Music by SLASH houses with a guide explaining how they were built. Photography is allowed in designated areas. If you want to see the craft without anything lunging at you, that’s the one.

We were there on opening night and walked all of the houses. Here’s everything you need to know about Halloween Horror Nights 2026 at Universal Studios Hollywood, plus the four we’d send you to first.

8 Horrifying Haunted Houses

This year’s collection of haunted houses includes five built on established franchises, plus three original horror stories from the Universal Studios Hollywood team. Here are the five franchise houses first.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

The Killer Klowns from Outer Space are returning to Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights. If there’s ever a reason to be afraid of Klowns, this haunted house is it.

The house is very similar to previous versions, so if you’ve missed out or just loved it the first time, it’s still a killer time at the carnival.

Evil Dead Burn

This all-new haunted house is based on the newly released sixth film in the Evil Dead franchise.

First introduced in 1981, Evil Dead evolved from an independent cult classic to one of the most iconic horror properties. Blending extreme gore with dark humor, the franchise centers on the Book of the Dead, an ancient text that unleashes supernatural parasitic demons who possess and twist their victims into Deadites.

Guests embark on a terrifying journey through the new film’s most frightening moments, beginning at the Price family’s secluded vacation home in the woods. The nightmare worsens as guests venture through the haunted house, encountering Deadites around every turn before succumbing to evil forces themselves.

We had a hard time deciding, but felt this might actually be the scariest house in Hollywood this year. It’s a near-constant bombardment of Deadites; you won’t get out of this one without a few jumps.

Hellraiser

For the first time, Halloween Horror Nights unleashes Hellraiser, one of horror’s most influential franchises. The trilogy redefined supernatural horror and introduced the mythology of the Lament Configuration puzzle box, which, when solved, opens a portal to another dimension inhabited by ritualistically torturous beings known as the Cenobites and their leader, the iconic Pinhead.

Guests step into a dark realm of pain and pleasure with Pinhead and the Cenobites. From the attic in Frank Cotton’s family home (where he was first cast to Hell) to the Channard Institute where the legendary box lures guests with its promise of forbidden pleasures, fans encounter moments and settings from all three movies in the Hellraiser franchise. Pinhead actor Doug Bradley also reprises his character and lends his voice to the experience.

The terrifying experience begins as guests enter the Lament Configuration puzzle box, unwittingly summoning the Cenobites and opening a gateway to a diabolical dimension where unspeakable horrors await. Their journey ultimately lands them in The Labyrinth, where Pinhead and the Cenobites lie in wait for new souls to torment for eternity.

Hellraiser was quite gruesome at times, but otherwise had some large spaces with beautifully horrific set pieces.

Stranger Things

Halloween Horror Nights is revisiting the Upside Down, with an all-new haunted house showcasing the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, placing guests at the center of the ultimate battle to save Hawkins.

Guests are transported to the town of Hawkins just as the barrier between reality and the supernatural unleashes an ominous darkness. As visitors make their way through the Wheeler House, Hawkins National Laboratory, the MAC-Z military base, and the haunting realms of the Upside Down and the Abyss, they’re hunted by Demogorgons and other sinister creatures, including Vecna himself.

If you’ve enjoyed the other Stranger Things houses, this year’s is in the same vein as previous ones. The final season is a bit darker, so expect a lot more Demogorgon and Vecna appearances.

Sinners

Our number one house of 2026. It’s a cinematic experience that puts you right in the middle of the movie, and inches away from the fangs of some beautiful but deadly blood-suckers.

The Oscar-winning Sinners takes place in the 1930s Mississippi Delta, where twin brothers named Smoke and Stack return to their hometown to open a juke joint for their community. Unfortunately, a troupe of vampires crashes the club’s opening night, threatening to curse the guests in a battle for survival.

The Halloween Horror Nights house transports guests back in time to Club Juke, where they come face-to-face with red-eyed vampires Remmick, Bert and Joan. As they attempt to evade the vampires, fans encounter characters from the film, including Sammie, Mary, Annie, Pearline and Cornbread. Caught in a deadly struggle between Smoke and Stack and the bloodthirsty vampires, guests must fight to survive the night.

When MiceChat reporter Scott Attula previewed this house with John Murdy, the tour was a steady run of “here’s something we’ve never done before,” and the first one starts while you are still in queue…which switchbacks through the Club Juke dance hall staged in the middle of Sammie’s “I Lied to You” performance, a 360 degree scene with musicians summoned by his performance from the past, present, and future appearing around you. The house has effectively started before you reach the entrance.

The house begins right when Remmick sinks his fangs into Mary.

The entire house weaves the film’s soundtrack deeply into the experience, from Sammie’s performance of “I Lied to You,” Remmick’s “Rocky Road to Dublin,” or the use of “Pale, Pale Moon” in the climactic vampire battle scene later on. Also be wary of vultures. They follow characters who are about to die, a motif lifted straight from the film.

The Model A parked outside Club Juke is real, with a long history at Universal, once used in a Laurel and Hardy show.

The climactic battle scales two stories into the balcony, with human and vampire figures littering the dance floor while the live actor survivors shoot and stake anything still moving. In the film, Remmick leaps up the building to cut off the survivors escaping through the second-floor door. Here, real stunt performers drop down from the second floor and take a swipe at guests with huge prosthetic claws.

The sunrise finale ends the way it should, with a scorched Remmick and the pick guard from Sammie’s guitar still lodged in his face.

Original Haunted Houses

The team at Universal Studios Hollywood has created all-new twisted tales for this year’s event, and these three round out the line-up of 8.

Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness

As with the completely different version in Orlando, the Ozzy house is filled with rich visuals and great music, and it works as a sentimental tribute to the late musician.

Developed as a living horror movie, Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness pays tribute to the heavy metal icon through music from his solo albums, including Blizzard of Ozz (1980), Diary of a Madman (1981), Bark at the Moon (1983), No More Tears (1991), Scream (2010) and Ordinary Man (2020).

“Ozzy never stopped pushing boundaries, and he loved anything that gave fans a new way to experience his music and the worlds he created,” said Ozzy’s wife Sharon and son Jack. “Halloween Horror Nights has done an incredible job bringing that spirit to life. Walking through these haunted houses, you’ll recognize so many moments inspired by his music and imagination. It’s a wonderful tribute to Ozzy, and we hope fans have as much fun experiencing it as he would have had seeing it come together.”

The original houses offer a different twisted journey on each coast. At Universal Studios Hollywood, the haunted house transports fans to Birmingham, England, home to John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne. Starting with “Crazy Train,” Ozzy Osbourne’s most famous song, guests travel through time from his early childhood to the Osbourne Asylum, inspired by his iconic album Diary of a Madman.

As they weave through the decades, the unique iterations of Ozzy’s persona come to life, from Madman Ozzy and Werewolf Ozzy to the Prince of Darkness, the moniker he earned in the 1970s.

So many Ozzys! This house has some of the most varied and gorgeous sets in the entire event. There’s something about the gothic artistic choices and the well-sculpted masks and costumes that really landed for us. It’s also a sort of bittersweet experience, as each Ozzy popping out is simultaneously scary and like an old friend who’s come back to briefly visit. He just happens to be a vampire or a werewolf sometimes…

“Ozzy Osbourne didn’t just help define heavy metal. He created a cultural phenomenon that has influenced generations of music, art and horror,” said John Murdy, Executive Producer of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. “We previously had the privilege of collaborating with Ozzy, and this new haunted house is an opportunity to honor his extraordinary solo career. Inspired by all 13 of his albums, guests will journey through the dark, surreal worlds that fueled his music and cemented his legacy as the one and only Prince of Darkness.”

Universal Hollywood is famous for its big budget recreations of Hollywood’s most successful horror films, but they’ve been creating some fantastic original content of their own in recent years. This year has two original concepts with no film behind them at all. They’re so good that we just couldn’t decide between them.

KILLceañera: Music by SLASH

KILLceañera starts off by setting the mood in the most elegant way. A beautiful singer is perched just above the front door of the house. Her voice is like an angel calling you inside… where terrors abound.

Continuing Universal Studios Hollywood’s longstanding tradition of featuring Latin American myths and legends, the all-original KILLceañera: Music by SLASH haunted house centers on the quinceañera of Lola, who turns the traditional rite of passage for fifteen-year-old girls into a murderous opportunity to exact revenge on those who wronged her.

Lola’s parents died in a house fire that left her heavily burned, and she was bullied throughout her childhood for the disfigurement she suffered. She invites her tormentors to her quinceañera, then hosts it in the ruins of her parents’ home. Before they arrive, she summons a horde of monsters out of the myths her parents once told her.

The house’s original score composed by Grammy Award-winning guitarist and songwriter SLASH features Spanish guitar and an exclusive song titled “15 Candles.” The title refers to the traditional 15 quinceañera candles, now one for each of Lola’s victims.

Each room introduces a new Latin-American mythological monster, including El Cucuy, La Mala Hora, La Lechuza, Tlahuelpuchi, La Llorona, El Silbón, and El Charro Negro, the most ever assembled in a single Horror Nights house.

One room turns the insults once hurled at Lola into writing on the walls in her abusers’ blood, while La Lechuza and Tlahuelpuchi whisper that same scorn around you through point-source speakers.

We chose this as a top pick because of the inventiveness. There’s a bit of recycling happening from previous Latin-American monster mazes, but there’s a lot of new. It’s a clever premise that allows the maze to uniquely tap into the traditions of a very important rite of passage. Yet, they’re presented like macabre gags. Fifteen candles, but they’re for each victim. The final toy retirement, but it’s El Cucuy bait. The changing of the shoes, but they’re turned into weapons. The traditional cake is now you.

The previous Latin American houses were often the most intense and scariest at Halloween Horror Nights, but despite still having scary monsters, it’s a party! The monsters are having fun, and Lola’s getting some catharsis by punishing her bullies. It’s an interesting balance of horror and camp.

The finale runs through a Mayan ruin and past the family graveyard, where three headstones read mother, father, and daughter. That last one raises a question the house never quite answers. Is Lola alive, or has she been a ghost the whole time? 🤯

Dead, Deader, Deadest

Dead, Deader, Deadest is a stark reminder of where we’ll all end up one day… the funeral home. And there’s some dark stuff happening in this one. It’s pretty clear that some misdeeds are going on… and the dead don’t seem happy about it.

Ambrotox claims to restore the deceased’s features without the process of embalming. But when the miracle drug backfires, a century’s worth of corpses rise from their graves dead set on terrorizing the living. In this haunted house, stare death in its decaying face and unearth the dark secrets that lie within the Deville Family Funeral Home.

We decided to create a tie with the other original house, KILLceañera, because both houses had fantastic set design. Dead, Deader, Deadest really nailed the crumbling mid-century mortuary vibe, but of course with a bit of a sinister twist.

Fittingly, the whole place is filled with dead bodies, but in increasingly more concerning states. Then there’s also the undead…

This house had some members of our team on edge, desperately trying to get out. The undead seem to come from everywhere, and the rows and rows of corpses and cadavers certainly didn’t ease their discomfort.

You Boils and Ghouls always asks if you can see a house treatment…well I’m gonna give you the introduction to it so you get the context for this original house. It starts like this….

6 Sinister Scare Zones

Even if you don’t make it to all of the haunted houses, you can enjoy the slightly less terrifying scare zones that take over the streets of Universal Studios Hollywood. Past years have included chainsaw hordes, original monsters, and themed immersive street experiences… oh, and clowns… lots and lots of terrifying clowns.

This year brings a slightly different mix of chainsaws, clowns, and some newer characters that Universal has never featured before…

Fortnitemares

Halloween Horror Nights puts its signature twisted spin on Fortnite with an immersive scare zone inspired by Fortnitemares, the game’s signature Halloween event.

Halloween Horror Nights guests can “drop in” to the world of Fortnitemares, with an all-new scare zone featuring ever-evolving and high-stakes environments, including Freaky Fields, a Halloween-inspired living battleground overcome with a threatening force.

Throughout the scare zone, fans encounter the Battle Bus along with familiar Fortnitemares characters, plus a few new additions exclusive to Halloween Horror Nights, as they work to escape and claim victory.

The Fortnitemares scare zone is part of the line-up at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort.

Hackerz

The saws are back. Just try to evade a troop of chainsaw-wielding killers.

You can hear them from a mile away, and yet you still don’t stand a chance. Try not to get hacked to bits by a band of chainsaw-swinging freaks.

El Circo de la Muerte

As guests exit the KILLceañera: Music by SLASH house, they enter El Circo de la Muerte, inspired by the circus and sideshow acts that traveled across Mexico in the 1930s, but with a terrifying twist.

This traveling circus is host to all sorts of atrocious acts, from the mind-bending to the monstrous. Come see for yourself, and you’ll leave forever changed. That is, if you leave at all.

Be sure to look for the hidden Espectáculo Macabro sideshow you can enter from this scare zone. It’s a little mini-maze you won’t want to miss, filled with gruesome vignettes that are sure to distract you just long enough for you to miss the scare actors hiding in the shadows.

Blood Bog

The promise of this scare zone and the reality are two very different things. Here’s the setup from Universal:

Deep in the murky swampland lies a mysterious bog. It’s dark. It’s damp. And it’s a hotbed for beastly creatures that will make your blood run cold.

Sadly, this is a couple of set pieces and a few actors you’ll pass on your way to enter the queue for the Terror Tram. It’s better than nothing… but it’s crammed into an impossibly tight space with a huge crowd of guests coming and going from the tram.

Murder of Crowz

The popular scare zone returns to Halloween Horror Nights with dad, mom and baby crow flocking to the nest. We love the crows… but again… they are oddly placed in a row of back-to-back scare zones at the front of the park, which makes it difficult to interact with them due to the crush of guests.

You’ve foolishly ventured into a massive crow’s nest. Now the flock will defend its territory by descending upon you in a feathered rage and pecking your bones clean.

Shriek of the Banshee

What happens when guests encounter a mysterious wagon run by a carnival barker and his talking skeleton? Only the Banshee knows.

Sadly, this one is also oversold. An animatronic skeleton in a fortune teller’s wagon that most guests completely miss sets up the story… then guests encounter the Banshee, a stilt-walker in a monster outfit. That’s it, that’s the whole scare zone. You’ll find it sandwiched between the entry to the Wizarding World and Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. Again, better than nothing… but very close to nothing.

Death Eaters in the Wizarding World

Not officially listed as a scare zone, but one of our favorite elements of the whole night, is seeing Lord Voldemort’s most loyal followers, the Death Eaters, once again roam The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This one was undersold by Universal, but is a highlight of the event.

Turn the lights down in the world of Harry Potter, but turn up the sinister music and unleash the followers of the Dark Lord, and you have the recipe for a delicious bit of interactive HHN fun. We’d love to see this expanded in some way; perhaps using the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey extended queue again like the Hippogriff walkthrough at Universal Fan Fest Nights earlier this year.

HHN Entertainment

In recent years, the event has featured a large-scale live production, along with roaming performers, projection effects, and atmospheric entertainment throughout the park.

The Purge: Dangerous Waters

The fiery stunt spectacular puts you in a world where laws won’t save you, bringing the unpredictable terror of The Purge to life.

We recommend that you prioritize this one if for no other reason than to take a break and rest your feet. Then be dazzled by lasers, lights, stunts, and a spectacular show.

We appreciate that this show has stuck around. There aren’t many stunt shows in SoCal theme parks anymore, so it’s wonderful to see one that can up the ante for the more adult-oriented Halloween Horror Nights crowd, with plenty of high-flying jumps, falls, pyrotechnics, and plenty of blood splatter.

Obsession

Prowling the darkened streets of Universal Studios Hollywood is Nikki, the main character from the horror blockbuster Obsession, and guests may just find themselves face-to-face with the latest victim of the One Wish Willow’s terrifying curse. Check Universal Studios’ social media for a password. Tell it to Nikki and she may have something for you.

We’ll be honest… we missed this one… we think 🤷

Terror Tram

The formidable Terror Tram experience on the Universal Studios backlot is exclusive to Universal Studios Hollywood. Most years, the world-famous Studio Tour drops visitors off near the Bates Motel, where they must navigate a gauntlet of monsters before making their way through iconic backlot locations like the War of the Worlds set and eventually boarding the tram for the return trip to the Upper Lot.

The opportunity to walk through some of Universal’s most famous sets at night, transformed into a horror experience, remains one of the event’s standout offerings and something fans look forward to every year. This year, Art the Clown is terrorizing the Terror Tram, and that’s no joke.

Terror Tram Starring Art the Clown

The terrifying Halloween Horror Nights tram tour returns this year with the one and only Art the Clown, who hijacks the tram for a horrifying holiday celebration, complete with a blood-soaked bag of presents. New music composed for the experience by metal band Ice Nine Kills puts a dark twist on classic Christmas songs.

And don’t be fooled into thinking you can avoid the killer clown by skipping the ride, since he’s also lurking throughout the theme park. In many ways, Art is the de facto host of this year’s event. We ran into him everywhere… all night long. He’s sort of everywhere, from a bar and restaurant to the returning walk-around Arts that startle guests in just about every major walkway in the park.

After reading a cute storybook, Art deems everyone aboard the Terror Tram naughty, and therefore they must be punished. Not quite the standard modus operandi for Santa Claus, but this is no ordinary Santa Claus…

In most recent years, the Terror Tram has been structured with what amounts to short scenes you’d typically find in a house. Each segment has a theme, but this year, they’re all part of Art’s nightmarish Christmas.

It’s a lot of Art the Clown and what he does. Which is pretty sick, honestly. It’s a very gory Christmas on the Terror Tram this year. Art’s a fan favorite for his grotesque humor, so expect lots of your favorite Christmas traditions to be turned into some horrific gag.

Frightening Food

We got a sneak peek at this year’s food, and it’s to die for.

The biggest news is that Treehouse of Horror has finally made its way to Halloween Horror Nights. While dreams of a Simpsons-themed scare zone or haunted house are still unfulfilled, Treehouse of Horror menu items are finally available across Springfield.

Treehouse of Horror (located on the Upper Lot, in select Springfield restaurants)

• Sloppy D’oh – ground beef in a tangy tomato chili sauce, topped with Fritos®
• Brat.Ever! – bratwurst in a pretzel roll topped with Duff cheese sauce and sauerkraut

• Pumpkin Spice Cold Boo – cold brew topped with pumpkin spice pink vanilla cold foam and a donut hole

Nearly every house and scare zone this year has its own limited-release collection, and several include an acrylic figure built for the Infernal Carousel, a separately sold display that the figures slot into. The Terror Tram collection features Art the Clown, this year’s host.

Halloween Horror Nights 2026 Tickets

Halloween Horror Nights admission includes access to select attractions, but one thing worth knowing before you buy: the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster is not included with event admission. Universal excludes it from General Admission, both Day/Night tickets, every Express option and both Fear Passes. The only ticket that gets you on it is the R.I.P. Tour, and even there it’s limited access.

• Halloween Horror Nights After 2 p.m. Day/Night starting at $117 per person, adding same-day park admission after 2 p.m. and early event access at 5:30 p.m.

A few things about the Unmasking the Horror Tour before you book it. The tour runs up to an hour, groups are capped at 20 guests and you may be grouped in with other parties, and it does not include theme park admission, which has to be purchased separately for the same date. Check in at the Universal Box Office 15 minutes before your departure time, and any changes to your reservation need to be made at least 48 hours ahead.

If you’ve got the money, the R.I.P. Tour is the ultimate luxury. Your guide will whisk you through the event, take you to the front of the houses, get you into the shows, and provide the back story for each of the houses. It’s dreamy… but expensive.

Halloween Horror Nights is not recommended for children under the age of 13.
