Universal is proving once again that it is never too early to start panicking.  Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights 2026 opened at Universal Studios Florida on Aug. 28 and runs on select nights through Nov. 1, the event’s earliest start date ever.

This year’s 35th-anniversary event features returning icons Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow, an “Infernal Carnival of Nightmares” theme, a haunted house based on Ryan Coogler’s Oscar-winning horror film Sinners, an all-new house showcasing the final season of Stranger Things, and an original house inspired by the music of the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne.

The final terrifying tally is 10 haunted houses, 4 scare zones, and 2 shows, plus specialty food and merch of course. We walked the entire event on opening night and shot a short teaser video inside every house. Here’s the full line-up, along with the five experiences we would send you to first.

Iconic Icons

The biggest news for fans of Universal Orlando’s after-hours haunt is that past icons Jack The Clown and Dr. Oddfellow have returned to “wreak havoc together.”

“The overall thematic is going to be taking you within the Infernal Carnival of Nightmares,” said Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment Creative Development at Universal Orlando Resort. “And it’s within that new vision between Jack and Oddfellow that all of our content is going to reside this year.”

Who are Jack and Dr. Oddfellow?

Jack the Clown was first introduced in 2000 for Halloween Horror Nights 10, with multiple scare zones and haunted houses themed to the character. Jack’s presence has continued to be felt at the event, including in 2015, when he co-hosted the event with Chance. Jack and Chance are also featured at Universal’s year-round Horror Unleashed attraction in Las Vegas.

“The first time we created Jack, we didn’t know what we had in that iconic character,” said Lora Sauls, Assistant Director of the Creative Development Group and Show Direction at Universal Orlando Resort. “We all know people are scared of clowns, so we knew if we created a creepy clown, everyone would love him, but we didn’t know how much.”

As for Dr. Oddfellow, he was the icon for Halloween Horror Nights 32 (though he’d made appearances before that), and all of the 2023 event’s scare zones were themed to Oddfellow. He even had his own dedicated house.

While exploring the Downtown Clowntown scare zone, we happened upon this puppeteer on a small stage telling the backstory of Jack and Oddfellow. The whole event hangs on this 2-minute tale. We encourage you to take a look:

Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights Haunted Houses 2026

Each year, Universal Orlando Resort features a new slate of horrifying haunted houses, some ripped from well-known horror franchises and others dreamed up by the twisted geniuses at Universal Creative, all featuring movie-quality make-up, costumes, special effects, and set design that turns them into living nightmares.

We shot a short teaser video inside each one. They are deliberately brief, because the whole point is to give you a feel for a house without spoiling what’s lurking around the corners.

IP Haunted Houses

Each year, Universal creates immersive haunted houses based on established horror franchises, from Freddy and Jason to Stranger Things. This year, the line-up includes an Oscar-winning movie, an iconic horror franchise, and a final bow.

Evil Dead Burn

This all-new haunted house is based on the newly-released sixth film in the Evil Dead franchise.

First introduced in 1981, Evil Dead evolved from an independent cult classic to one of the most iconic horror properties. Blending extreme gore with dark humor, the franchise centers on the Book of the Dead, an ancient text that unleashes supernatural parasitic demons who possess and twist their victims into Deadites.

Guests embark on a terrifying journey through the new film’s most frightening moments, beginning at the Price family’s secluded vacation home in the woods. The nightmare worsens as guests venture through the haunted house, encountering Deadites around every turn before succumbing to evil forces themselves.

While not one of our top 5 experiences this year, Evil Dead Burn is fun, with rich visuals and a genuine sense of dread.

(The Evil Dead Burn haunted house is part of the line-up at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.)

Our Evil Dead teaser video:

Hellraiser

For the first time, Halloween Horror Nights unleashes Hellraiser, one of horror’s most influential franchises. The trilogy redefined supernatural horror and introduced the mythology of the Lament Configuration puzzle box, which, when solved, opens a portal to another dimension inhabited by ritualistically torturous beings known as the Cenobites and their leader, the iconic Pinhead.

The terrifying experience begins as guests enter the Lament Configuration puzzle box, unwittingly summoning the Cenobites and opening a gateway to a diabolical dimension where unspeakable horrors await. Their journey ultimately lands them in The Labyrinth where Pinhead and the Cenobites lie in wait for new souls to torment for eternity. Pinhead actor Doug Bradley also reprises his character and lends his voice to the experience.

Step Into The Final Season of Stranger Things

Halloween Horror Nights is revisiting the Upside Down, with an all-new haunted house showcasing the fifth and final season of Stranger Things and placing guests at the center of the ultimate battle to save Hawkins.

This house features oversized sets, backdrop video, and terrifying creatures. Although it’s a sumptuous journey, it did not crack our top 5.

Stranger Things haunted house key art at Halloween Horror Nights 2026

Guests are transported to the town of Hawkins just as the barrier between reality and the supernatural unleashes an ominous darkness. As visitors make their way through the Wheeler House, Hawkins National Laboratory, the MAC-Z military base, and the haunting realms of the Upside Down and the Abyss, they’re hunted by Demogorgons and other sinister creatures, including Vecna himself.

The Oscar-winning Sinners at Halloween Horror Nights

★ MiceChat Favorite · #4 of 5

This visually stunning house is filled with great acting and music, and vampires of course. It feels elevated from the normal Halloween fare, and we hope it’s a huge success with the fans.

Sinners haunted house key art at Halloween Horror Nights 2026

The supernatural horror film takes place in the 1930s Mississippi Delta, where twin brothers named Smoke and Stack return to their hometown to open a juke joint for their community. Unfortunately, a troupe of vampires crashes the club’s opening night, threatening to curse the guests in a battle for survival.

Sammie performs on the Club Juke stage in the Sinners haunted house at HHN 2026

The Halloween Horror Nights house transports guests back in time to Club Juke, where they come face-to-face with red-eyed vampires Remmick, Bert and Joan. As they attempt to evade the vampires, fans encounter characters from the film, including Sammie, Mary, Annie, Pearline and Cornbread. Caught in a deadly struggle between Smoke and Stack and the bloodthirsty vampires, guests must fight to survive the night.

“The moment Sinners premiered, we knew it was an undeniable fit for Halloween Horror Nights and it’s an honor to bring this story to life,” said Mike Aiello, Senior Director of Entertainment Creative Development at Universal Orlando Resort. “It’s rare for a film to fully satisfy hardcore horror fans while also inviting new audiences into the genre—and that’s exactly what Sinners does. Its world, characters and intensity will translate into a relentless haunted house. We can’t wait for our fans to step inside and experience the horror firsthand in a way that only Halloween Horror Nights can deliver.”

(The Sinners haunted house is part of the line-up at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.)

Original Haunted Houses

Universal’s creative team also builds original haunted houses that transport unwitting guests into realms of unimaginable horror. This year, the icons get a house of their own, and a previous original Halloween Horror Nights character returns to finish what he started.

Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control

★ MiceChat Favorite · #1 of 5

This is our favorite house of 2026. It’s creative, it’s whimsical, it has a great story, and it serves as the inspiration for the entire event.

Witness Jack the Clown’s unholy origins, then enter Dr. Oddfellow’s wickedly twisted universe where two of the most powerful forces in horror face off in a death match of chaos versus control.

Jack and Oddfellow Chaos and Control haunted house key art at Halloween Horror Nights 2026

Guests walk through Jack’s origin story, or at least Dr. Oddfellow’s version of it. Oddfellow used his traveling circus to harness dark supernatural forces. Jack turned that same carnival into a stage for increasingly chaotic and theatrical violence, and Oddfellow decided he had become too dangerous and sealed him inside a box. The box did not destroy him.

“Jack returned as something no longer human,” said Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment Creative Development at Universal Orlando Resort. “He broke free, killed Oddfellow, and took control of the circus, reshaping it into the Carnival of Carnage.”

Oddfellow did not stay dead either. He returned with control of the Dark Zodiac and more power than before, which sets up the fight the entire house is built around. Guests enter inside “the Oddverse” with Oddfellow narrating Jack’s rise, Jack refuses to stay contained, and the two of them tear the place apart around you.

By the end, the rivals work out something worse than either of them alone: together, they’re stronger. That realization is where the event’s Infernal Carnival of Nightmares theme comes from.

Don’t miss our amazing teaser video of this visually spectacular haunted house:

Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness

★ MiceChat Favorite · #2 of 5

A close runner-up to Jack and Oddfellow. This one is part horror house and part tribute to the iconic rocker, designed in close partnership with his family.

Developed as a living horror movie, Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness pays tribute to the heavy metal icon through music from his solo albums, including The Blizzard of Ozz (1980), Diary of a Madman (1981), Bark at the Moon (1983), No More Tears (1991), Scream (2010) and Ordinary Man (2020).

“Ozzy never stopped pushing boundaries, and he loved anything that gave fans a new way to experience his music and the worlds he created,” Sharon and Jack Osbourne jointly stated. “Halloween Horror Nights has done an incredible job bringing that spirit to life. Walking through these haunted houses, you’ll recognize so many moments inspired by his music and imagination. It’s a wonderful tribute to Ozzy, and we hope fans have as much fun experiencing it as he would have had seeing it come together.”

The original houses offer a different twisted journey on each coast. At Universal Orlando, guests venture through ancient ruins and foreboding dungeons before boarding the “Crazy Train” for a twisted ride into a realm inspired by the covers of his fan-favorite albums, Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon, The Ultimate Sin and Black Rain. Ruled by the Prince of Darkness, this fantastical world draws from the heavier sound and sinister imagery that defined the later years of Ozzy’s career, transforming that creative evolution into a horrific journey through his unmistakably twisted imagination.

“We are honored to collaborate with the Osbourne family to create a unique haunted house that celebrates the legacy of Ozzy Osbourne,” said Mike Aiello, Senior Director of Entertainment Creative Development at Universal Orlando Resort. “It was important for us to create an authentic experience that brings Ozzy’s creativity and personality to life in an eerily immersive new way. Fans will discover so many meaningful details, including a few Easter Eggs, as they navigate memorable dark and twisted moments inspired by his iconic musical career.”

We’ll be honest with you, this wasn’t one of our favorites… but it was also far from a dud. It’s a filler experience, but if waits are short, be sure to visit.

Alien Abduction and Cybergoria were our two least favorite haunted houses of the year. Which is actually good news for Universal, as none of the houses, including these two, are to be avoided entirely. But because this event can be incredibly crowded with hours-long waits, it’s good to know what can be skipped when time is tight.

Our teaser video from the haunted house:

MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals

A defunct zoo is now the deadly domain of warring cannibal factions that have taken their animal instincts to extremes. They’re territorial. They’re hungry. And you’re lunch.

There’s not much more to say about the story of this one, but the sets were incredible and the scares were fun… just don’t stop to enjoy the view for very long… or you’ll attract the kind of crowd you won’t survive.

H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!

★ MiceChat Favorite · #3 of 5

It might be a surprise to hear that one of this year’s low-budget houses is also one of our favorites. H.R. Bloodengutz is pure magic. It’s largely a comedy experience; the timing is spot-on, and the humor overcomes the tight, simple sets. Kudos to the HHN team for their wit and storytelling on this one. We hope to visit this one again before the end of the season.

The fan-favorite maître d’macabre returns to WKNB with a special Halloween scare-athon. The creature feature host first appeared in 2011’s H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror and then made a brief appearance in 2021’s Welcome to SCarey: Horror in the Heartland.

According to Universal, fan-favorite creature feature host Larry Kurtzberg (better known as H.R. Bloodengutz) returns in the all-new haunted house following his “descension into violent madness where he tortured his crew when his show was canceled [as featured in 2021].” Now, H.R. Bloodengutz has escaped from prison, returning to WKNB for a final Halloween Special “of gruesome proportions.”

Here’s a sneak peek at H.R. Bloodengutz:

This is our longest video of the season… because we loved every moment and just had to share.

But WAIT… HHN isn’t all about the haunted houses… There are scare zones too…

Sinister Scare Zones

Even if you skip the haunted houses, you can’t escape the horror of highly-themed scare zones that take over the streets of Universal Studios Florida. This year, Jack and Oddfellow’s sinister presence is felt throughout the park.

Downtown Clowntown

★ MiceChat Favorite · #5 of 5

Our fifth pick isn’t a haunted house at all. The massive size, the sets, the story, and the immersive experience within Downtown Clowntown make it a place you can spend a considerable amount of time in, and the scare level is slightly lower for you chickens out there. Me included.

The star of last year’s terrifying Terrifier haunted house, Art the Clown, has joined forces with the Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Jack the Clown himself… and no good can come of that.

The city that never sleeps becomes a waking nightmare when it’s overrun by Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Art the Clown, and other clownsfolk who can’t wait to tear you limb from limb.

But the real advantage to this particular scare zone is the massive amount of entertainment going on all around you. And because this isn’t one of the haunted houses, you don’t have to keep marching forward. In fact, if you see a show going on, or simply want to follow one of the clowns around, you can take your time to do so!

Halloween Horror Nights guests can “drop in” to the world of Fortnitemares, with an all-new scare zone featuring ever-evolving and high-stakes environments, including Freaky Fields, a Halloween-inspired living battleground overcome with a threatening force.

Throughout the scare zone, fans encounter the Battle Bus along with familiar Fortnitemares characters, plus a few new additions exclusive to Halloween Horror Nights, as they work to escape and claim victory.

Cindy’s time has come. With Dr. Oddfellow’s dark sorcery, she opened a portal in the carnival’s junkyard, using it to resurrect decayed nightmares from the past that are back to haunt you.

While not full-fledged scare zones, there are several additional areas in the park where guests will need to tread with caution: A mob of chainsaw-wielding clowns are patrolling Springfield and the zombie car hops are back at Mel’s Die-In.

And in Diagon Alley, Voldemort’s loyal followers, the Death Eaters, are searching for others to join the Dark Lord (these dark witches and wizards only roam for part of the event).

Eerie Entertainment

A full-scale stage production takes place during the event. In past years, the fire-filled Nightmare Fuel series followed an episodic circus-themed storyline, but the 2026 stage production takes a blood-curdling turn.

Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir

This year’s live stage show takes the audience on a dark musical journey and challenges them to resist temptation as death-defying stunts lure them into a vampire-ridden metropolis.

Halloween Horror Nights Merchandise

Nearly every house and scare zone this year has its own limited-release collection, and most of them include an acrylic figure built to slot into the Infernal Carnival collectible display, which is sold separately. Collect them all and the whole event ends up on a shelf, which is either charming or a warning sign depending on your household.

Unless noted below, everything here is available at Universal Orlando Resort and on shopUniversal.com.

Tribute Store

This year’s highly themed Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store is located on New York Street, at the end of the Downtown Clowntown scare zone (across from the entrance to the Jimmy Fallon attraction). If you only have time for one shopping stop, make it this one, since several items are sold nowhere else in the park.

EDITOR NOTE: Samantha Davis-Friedman and I both attended Universal Orlando HHN this past weekend. Our guide has been fully updated with thoughts, photos, and teaser videos we shot in each house. A guide this size and scope takes a lot of time and effort (not to mention a trip across the country); we hope you enjoy it. Please let us know which houses are at the top of your list, and what IP and original concepts you’d like to see in the coming years.

Universal can’t afford to hire someone with actual puppeteering experience? That’s like having a magician who just waves around linked rings without knowing what to do with them. Hate to art forms presented in such a sloppy way, especially when that is the entire focus of that mini show.
