Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Kicks Off Early with Disney Merchandise & Float Reveal

One of the Turkey Day highlights for many American families is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Macy’s and Disney are making this year even grander with a new collaborative merchandise collection from companies such as Stoney Clover Lane, Loungefly, Bauble Bar, and Kate Spade. Read on to explore Disney and Macy’s holiday collection and Disney’s contributions to the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Disney at the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Disney’s float for the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, dubbed “Magic Meets the Seas,” transforms the bows of all eight Disney Cruise ships, including the upcoming Disney Treasure, the Disney Adventure, and Disney Destiny, a stage for characters. Captains Mickey and Minnie Mouse join Moana, Miguel, Aladdin, and other friends atop the float while performers and even more Disney friends dance alongside to familiar tunes. The Disney Treasure’s anthem, “Live the Adventure,” will play during the finale, topped off with a shower of confetti.

Disney’s Minnie Mouse balloon will debut at this year’s parade alongside the Disney Cruise Line-themed float. This high-flying character inspired Disney and Macy’s holiday collection.

Disney and Macy’s Holiday Collection

The collection’s merchandise features artwork from Disney’s Director of Character Art, Jeff Shelly, and is available exclusively from Macy’s. Beneath the overarching umbrella of the “Holiday Collection” are three smaller collections:

• Minnie Majorette, with items focusing on Minnie-themed imagery and artwork, sometimes placing her in the role of the parade’s majorette
• Vintage Varsity, as the name suggests, includes varsity and vintage imagery of Mickey and the gang
• Family Celebration, with merchandise themed to the new Minnie Mouse parade balloon and other character balloons

Here are some of the highlights:

Merchandise from Loungefly and Funko

Loungefly designed accessories for all three collections.

For the Minnie Majorette Collection, we have this drum-shaped crossbody bag and this pom-pom-inspired ear headband.

The Vintage Varsity Collection includes a backpack and a set of pennant-shaped enamel pins.

The bulk of the Loungefly merchandise is found in the Family Celebration Collection. It houses one of their popular mini backpacks, a convertible crossbody bag, and an ear headband, all inspired by the Minnie parade balloon. There is also a tote bag with a balloon-themed allover print and a window-shaped enamel lenticular pin that shows the Minnie balloon passing by.

Loungefly’s sister company, Funko, released a Minnie Mouse parade balloon version of their famous collectible POP! vinyl figures.

Merchandise from Stoney Clover Lane

Stoney Clover Lane is best known for its somewhat simple bags that serve as a base for its themed patches. The company created bags for all three sub-collections. Examples from each are pictured below.

However, Stoney Clover Lane only released Family Celebration patches. The four larger, polyester badges of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald are sold individually, but the smaller applique style Mickey and Minnie ones are sold as a set.

Merchandise from Bauble Bar

Bejeweled Bauble Bar earrings come in several styles, spanning all three sub-collections. 

There are also sparkly goodies that aren’t in the jewelry category, like these bag charms of Minnie Mouse and her gal pal Daisy Duck, portrayed as the parade’s majorette and bandleader.

Interestingly, this woven blanket from the Family Celebration Collection is also by Bauble Bar. It is woven from a lightweight acrylic yarn and decorated with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy as parade balloons.

More Noteworthy Merchandise Disney and Macy’s Holiday Collection

Kate Spade’s contributions are part of the Minnie Majorette Collection and consist of a backpack, crossbody bag, and tote, all sharing a print full of Miss Minerva Mouse in various poses.

As part of the Family Celebration Collection, Citizen and Hallmark both transform the Minnie balloon into merchandise the brands are known for (watches and ornaments, respectively).

You’ll also find fashions and other items in all three collections made directly from Macy’s.

When it is finally time to hit the hay, Macy’s offers not only PJs for the whole family but also Mickey and Minnie parade plushes and Minnie slippers in both kid and adult sizes. All of these are part of the Family Celebration Collection.
