Sometimes a little shopping break is just what the doctor ordered. There’s a reason that retail therapy is so popular, it’s good for the soul (though, less so for the bank balance). And Downtown Disney has plenty of new merchandise to offer for this little retail therapy session. Highlights include several spiffy Loungefly bags, mugs that are perfect for a cozy cuppa, and even a soothing stuffed toy. And as added bonus, you’ll find my video walkthrough of World of Disney!

Fresh Finds at World of Disney

The first stop on our shopping excursion is Downtown Disney’s mega-store, World of Disney.

Apparel

There may have been more than a few tie-dyed pieces released lately but the trend is still very much en vogue, if these new items are any indication. There are women’s hoodies of Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Stitch with matching drawstring shorts of the same material. The backside hem on the shorts has the Disneyland logo on it.

Like the tie-dye hoodies, this status update shirt has matching shorts.

To be honest, the wording on this women’s tank makes me think of all those Shiba Inu dog memes.

It was recently Mother’s Day but Moms really should be celebrated all year, don’t you think? These two Disney Mom shirts seem to think so.

This shirt has a pretty artsy take on the Star Wars’ Stormtrooper, building one of their helmets from different phrases.

Accessories

Unlike the other bags in this section, this satchel and matching small crossbody purse are not made by Loungefly and are instead a standard Disney brand. Both bags have a print that mimics a comicstrip starring Mickey and Minnie.

This Minnie-inspired Loungefly mini backpack does a good job of blending the use of sequins and faux leather on the exterior, making the red polkadot accents really pop.

While Disneyland’s version of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is not yet complete, that hasn’t stopped Disney from sending some merchandise for the attraction our way (I don’t mind one bit, though). This Loungefly mini backpack and matching wallet is covered with art depicting scenes from the ride.

Part of the Tropical Collection that we detailed in the previous Merchandise Update, this Loungefly Mini Backpack and cardholder (along with a good portion of the rest of the collection) are available at World of Disney.

The Loungefly Mini Backpack has a wooden handle as well as golden accents along the front pocket and the sides that have a segmented faux bamboo look to them.

BaubleBar collaborated with Disney for this pair of summery dangle earrings. The color scheme pairs perfectly with the previous two tropical Loungefly accessories.

Toys and Games

Weighted Blankets are great for stress relief and other self-care needs. Disney takes that concept a step further by converting the blanket into a weighted stuffed toy of a beloved Disney character. At present, you can choose between Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, and Stitch, although, given how much these toys have blown up on social media, I would not be surprised to be more characters soon. One of the nice qualities of these toys is the fabrics used. The bodies are a soft chenille fabric with a sort of corduroy used on the characters’ clothing (when applicable). They are a joy to touch.

As you would anticipate, these bundles of comfort are not light, thanks to the 2 and a half-pound weighted pouch stuffed inside each plush. If you are looking for a less hefty cuddling experience, the pouches are removable. Just open the velcro closure on the toy’s back and pull the weighted pouch out.

May’s nuiMOs costume collection, the Summer Fashion Collection, was detailed last week and the toy clothing has since made its way to store shelves. But if you examine World of Disney’s display, you’ll spot this small beach umbrella. It is not for sale online at shopDisney with the rest of the collection. It does fit the theme beach-y theme, though.

This latest Wishables series, which features characters (and the ride vehicle) from Star Tours, was released on May 4 for Star Wars Day (AKA May the Fourth Be With You). Options include RX-24, C-3PO, a Stormtrooper, a Starspeeder 3000, and R2-D2. With the exception of R2-D2, the others are hidden within a mystery bag.

This it’s a small world game is one of Funko Games many new and upcoming Disney-themed board games. I just love the art used. And the box has glitter and foil accents! Such a fun little detail.

Housewares

Here is a new style of mugs with character art surrounded by sketches of items related to the character (Grumpy, for example, has a diamond). The characters available are Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Ariel, Belle, and Grumpy. Quite an eclectic mix.

More word fun is found on these two mugs. Choose between Mickey or Minnie, each with a different style of background. Mickey’s is sort of uninspired, just lines of words. But Minnie’s, where words are arranged in her signature Polkadots, is much more inventive.

The delicate art style used for this princess mug is perfectly fitting for these regal ladies.

If you are hoping for a Pixar character mug (and are a parent), these two mugs, based on The Incredibles, are good options. The Mr. Incredible one says “Incredible Dad” while Elastigirl’s reads “Incredible Mom.”

Odds & Ends

New books are a rarity at World of Disney but I spotted this picture book, Forky in Craft Buddy Day (also available on Amazon), on my most recent trip into World of Disney. It not only features an illustrated story with Forky from Toy Story 4 but also provides ideas for kids to craft different buddies for themselves.

What’s New at The Disney Dress Shop

Quite a few items were recently stocked at the Disney Dress Shop, the other stop on today’s tour.

Apparel

I think this shirt describes a good number of Disney fan’s meal plans: Mickey waffle for breakfast and a Mickey Bar for an afternoon snack.

This Big Thunder Mountain shirt is indeed the G.O.A.T.

Bosom buddies Copper and Todd from the Fox and the Hound are highlighted on this BFFs shirt. In a market full of couples’ shirts, it is nice to see some just for friends.

Bambi’s bunny pal Thumper, well-known for his saying about not saying anything if you can’t say something nice, is featured on this women’s shirt along with a similar sentiment.

I think a visit to Disneyland after such a long closure hammers home the fact that many of us will “never get over” the magic of the Disney Parks. And now you can proclaim this fact on this women’s cropped tee.

My boy, the Cheshire Cat, is hosting his own Brunch Club and you can show off your membership with this women’s tank top.

Zootopia’s Flash the sloth takes a moment to use this shirt to remind everyone to “Live Slow.”

The Disney Dress Shop is also home to some fancy ties. I spotted ties themed to Tomorrowland, the Millennium Falcon, the Pixar Ball, and the Avengers.

Accessories

Dooney & Bourke recently released a trio of Moana-inspired bags. The first two, a satchel and a crossbody purse, are covered in a print with characters from the film along with the phrase “The Sea is Calling Me.”

The tote from this set opts for art rather than a traditional print, as seen in the satchel and crossbody purse. One side has Moana, Pua, Maui, Hei Hei, and a pair of Kakamora. The other side has Moana as a toddler, Grandma Tala, a little sea turtle, and a friendly wave.

Speaking of waves, a large amount of Disney Cruise Line merchandise made its way ashore. The majority of it is in a popup shop over at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World but Downtown Disney wasn’t completely left out. You’ll find a selection of Betsey Johnson jewelry, created especially for the Disney Cruise Line.
