After being shrouded in secrecy for so long, Walt Disney Animation Studios has unveiled the trailer for its next animated feature, “Raya and the Last Dragon.”

According to Disney’s press release, “Raya and the Last Dragon” centers around “a lone warrior who sets out to find the last dragon in existence and save the kingdom of Kumandra from the villainous Druun.”

In the trailer, Raya makes her way through a mysterious cave with her armadillo, TukTuk. Using martial arts skills she’s spent years practicing, Raya encounters a mysterious villain she’s forced to fight in her quest.

Delayed Theatrical Release Date

As previously reported by Micechat, “Raya and the Last Dragon” was originally scheduled for a November 2020 release, but was moved to 2021 due to theater shutdowns and related impact on ticket sales. Although some theaters in the U.S. have slowly opened with limited capacity, it’s unclear if the current theatrical release date will change yet again.

After a reshuffling of release dates, Pixar’s “Soul” was scheduled to debut in theaters within a week of where “Raya and the Last Dragon” was originally scheduled to open, but is now debuting exclusively on Disney+ on Christmas day.

Featuring the voices of Kelly Marie Tran as Raya and Awkwafina as the last dragon Sisu,  “Raya and the Last Dragon” is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on March 12, 2021.

Now, let’s take a look at that trailer!
