Walt Disney World has been open for a little over a month now. And as we’ve gotten adjusted to the new methods of operation, there’s a feeling of emptiness that we still can’t shake. The parks are virtually empty, but there’s a possibility that could change in the coming days. Let’s take a look at a lonely Magic Kingdom and some of the updates around the Walt Disney World resort. . . including Halloween.
Let’s Get Spooky!
Just because Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties are canceled this year doesn’t mean we still can’t celebrate Halloween the Disney way! You may have seen our Disneyland merch update with some of these items, but we spotted these WDW-editions this week at Magic Kingdom’s Emporium.

Villains, and pumpkins, and ears . . . oh my!
Plus, new Maleficant ea— I mean, horns!
These Nightmare Before Christmas ears have been around for a little bit, but are absolutely appropriate for this time of year!
And these emerald ears are the latest addition to the colorful collection of Minnie Headbands:
We are still waiting to see if some Halloween decor will make its way into the park as well
More Admission Dates for Cast Members
As weak park attendance continues, Cast Member self-admissions have been unblocked through September 3rd. Park reservations will still be required, and since Disney’s Hollywood Studios is understandably the busiest park featuring the latest attractions, it will remain blocked from Cast Member admission.
Coming Soon: Mulan In-Park Preview
Even though Mulan is set to debut on Disney+ with paid premier access, the film is still receiving the glitz and glimmer treatment à la sneak peek at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Beginning August 21st, the Walt Disney Presents attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature an exclusive preview of the upcoming film. Additionally, a costume for the new witch character, Xian Lang, that was used in the production of the film, and an authentic replica of a warrior costume and sword will be on display.
Magic Kingdom Meanderings
This week one of our contributors, Laura, stopped by Magic Kingdom. Let’s see what the park is looking like these days!
Making our way in via monorail, we can see the new pedestrian bridge connecting Magic Kingdom to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is finally complete after years of waiting. You can now walk to the Magic Kingdom from all three of the Monorail loop hotels.
And just like that, we’re transported to the most magical of views. (We think the castle’s new hues look best with the colorful buildings of Main Street U.S.A.!)
Looking back from Cinderella Castle, you can tell how empty the park is these days. It’s still surreal to us to see the parks like this in the middle of summer.
In fact, the line was so barren over at the world-famous Jungle Cruise that some ducks decided to queue up!
Heading into Tomorrowland…
We can sneak a peek of TRON: Lightcycle Run construction from the Astro Orbitor:
Buzz Lightyear & Stitch were intermittently out on the Tomorrowland stage, greeting and posing for photos from a safe distance:
It’s nice to see custodial Cast Members making some magic!
