A few months ago, we compiled a list of when all the Disney resorts around the world closed due to the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. One by one, starting with Shanghai Disneyland, every Disney Park shut its gates indefinitely.

Well now, ready or not, each of the worldwide Disney parks has announced their planned reopening dates. Tokyo Disneyland became the final piece of the puzzle last night. Let’s take a look at the Disney parks reopening schedule in the order of when they will be welcoming guests again. . .

Each Disney property has implemented new and enhanced safety measures and cleaning procedures. All parks will require temperature checks before entry and the wearing a face mask will be mandatory.

In addition to extremely limited capacity and reduced daily operational hours, each theme park will also have limited offerings in terms of attractions, shows, dining locations, tours, experiences and more. And due to the limited capacity, many of the resorts will require an advance park reservation to attend. We recommend visiting each of the resort’s respective websites before planning your visit to ensure you will be able to gain entry, and to know what their current procedures are hours are.

Shanghai Disneyland – Reopened May 11th

First to close, and first to reopen. Shanghai Disneyland closed on January 25th, and resumed the magic on May 11th. While temperature checks and face masks are required, and social distancing yellow tape “boxes” mark where to stand for castle stage shows and attraction queues, procedures have already relaxed more here than is expected in other parks. It seems operations and overall guest behavior have been running smoothly since reopening.

Hong Kong Disneyland – Reopened June 18th

After almost five months of closure, Hong Kong Disneyland reopened on June 18th! Theme park reservations are required along with valid park admission.

A new castle, the “Castle of Magical Dreams,” is in the final stage of construction and will be ready for its official unveiling in early September, when the resort will celebrate its 15th anniversary!

Walt Disney World – Reopens July 11th

While some of Walt Disney World’s Disney Vacation Club resort hotels and Disney Springs have reopened earlier than the theme parks, Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will officially reopen July 11th. EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will reopen just a few days later on July 15th.

For the time being, park reservations are required, and park hopping will not be available. The new park reservation system, Disney Park Pass, has already opened up for Disney resort guests with valid theme park admission. We experienced our fair share of frustrations with the new system yesterday at the system’s launch. Annual Passholders without a resort reservation can book park reservations beginning Friday, June 26th, followed by existing ticketholders on Sunday, June 28th.

The magic is so close, yet so far!

UPDATED: Disneyland – Proposed July 17th Reopening Now DELAYED

Last, but certainly not least, the Happiest Place on Earth! Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are pending government approval to reopen on July 17th – the park’s 65th anniversary. Unfortunately, due to soaring covid infection rates in the state, the governor of California has delayed a decision until after July 4th. That has pushed back Disneyland’s plans as well.  More details here:

In the meantime, Downtown Disney is officially approved and set to open on July 9th, and two of the three resort hotels will open at the end of July:

The reopening of the Disneyland Resort’s theme parks remains a complicated situation. There have been some delays, like Disneyland’s unions sending a letter to California’s Governor petitioning for a later reopening date, in addition to California seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases. For more information about the tentative opening, be sure to read this week’s Disneyland Update below.
