UPDATED (4/08/20): Tokyo DISNEYLAND EXTENDS CLOSURE AGAIN! 

The temporary closures of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have been extended for a third time due to the “increasing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and in response to requests from the Japanese government and local authorities.”

A new reopening date will be determined in mid-May and announced at that time. Additionally, the opening of the upcoming Tokyo Disneyland expansion will be determined and announced once the Parks have reopened.

UPDATED (3/26/20): TOKYO DISNEYLAND EXTENDS CLOSURE

Tokyo Disneyland Resort is extending its closure for “April 20 or beyond.” The decision was made due to continued a continued request from Japan’s Coronavirus Response Headquarters as well as the current situation in Japan and abroad. 

Sadly, many of Tokyo Disney’s shows and events will be canceled as of the following dates even though the parks will be closed. 

Ending on March 19, 2020

  • Pixar Playtime (Tokyo DisneySea)
  • Duffy and Friends’ Heartwarming Days (Tokyo DisneySea)
    (Special event merchandise and menu items with souvenirs will be made available after the special event period has ended. Information on sales period, location and method will be posted on the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Website as soon as it becomes available.)

Disney’s Asian Parks Closed

All 4 Disney parks in Asia remain closed due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) concerns. Although first to close, and still in the middle of the largest COVID-19 outbreak, Shanghai Disneyland today announced (3/8/20) very limited reopening of some facilities.

“The Resort will provide an extensive range of measures, designed to ensure a safe and healthy experience for all guests, Cast Members and Disneytown tenant employees, including strict and comprehensive approaches on sanitization, disinfection and cleanliness. In accordance with relevant regulations, every guest entering Shanghai Disneyland Resort will be required to undergo temperature screening procedures upon their arrival and will need to present their health QR Code when entering dining venues, and are required to wear a mask during their entire visit. Guests will also be reminded to maintain respectful social distances at all times while in stores, queues, and restaurants.” 

For now, the park remains closed. It’s unclear how many may wish to visit the resort during this time. We’ll keep an eye on the situation.

Tokyo Disneyland Closed Due to Flu Epidemic 

UPDATE (2/27/20) Tokyo Disneyland Resort has announced that it will close both of its parks on February 29th and they will remain closed at least through March 15th due to Coronavirus concerns. The two Japanese parks join the two Chinese park in closure due to this global health emergency.

The park had previously posted the following notice to all guests advising precautions due to Coronavirus and cast member procedures: 

To Our Guests

Tokyo Disney Resort requests the cooperation of all our Guests in helping to prevent contagion and stop the spread of the new coronavirus by following the points below.

▪ Guests feeling unwell due to possible cold symptoms are requested to refrain from visiting the Parks.
▪ When using the restrooms in the Parks, please wash your hands and use the supplied hand sanitizer.
▪ If you feel unwell or your physical condition worsens while inside the Park, please contact the nearest Cast Member.

Starting January 28 Cast Members will be wearing face masks.

We will keep an eye on the status of all the Disney parks and operations worldwide. If you have additional information, please let us know.

Hong Kong Disneyland Closes Due to Coronavirus: 

UPDATE (6 pm Pacific 1/25/20)- We have been able to confirm with the Walt Disney Company that Hong Kong Disneyland is also closed due to the Coronavirus Flu Epidemic. More information will be posted here as it becomes available.

(6:20 pm Pacific 1/25/20) Here is an official statement from the Walt Disney Company:

As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, we are temporarily closing Hong Kong Disneyland park from today out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members. The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable. In the interim, we will be providing refunds to guests who have booked tickets to the park or rooms at our resort hotels.

The Standard Day Ticket is valid for six months from the purchase date. Shanghai Disneyland Closes Due to Deadly Flu Epidemic 

Beginning January 25th, the Shanghai Disney Resort will close its gates until further notice, in response to the growing outbreak of the deadly coronavirus spreading throughout China.

In response to the prevention and control of the disease outbreak and in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests and Cast, Shanghai Disney Resort is temporarily closing Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown including Walt Disney Grand Theatre and Wishing Star Park, starting January 25, 2020. We will continue to carefully monitor the situation and be in close contact with the local government, and we will announce the reopening date upon confirmation.

Shanghai Disney Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland, have booked a resort hotel, or have booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast Mandarin Production through the original ticket purchase channel, and we will introduce the detailed procedure and guidelines via the resort’s official platforms as soon as possible.

We wish our guests a healthy and happy Spring Festival!”


 

As of January 24th, China’s National Health Commission confirmed 875 coronavirus cases nationwide – unfortunately, this includes 26 deaths.

That same day, Disney stated they would join public facilities across the country in closing their doors to the public. Citizens are being urged by public health officials to avoid crowded places. A difficult task in the middle of the busy Chinese Spring Festival season. 

Disney is issuing refunds to guests looking to cancel their trip due to the viral outbreak.
