Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, Universal Studios Hollywood’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, will debut this summer, but we got a sneak peek at the coaster’s ride vehicles modeled after iconic cars from the Fast & Furious films.
Let’s find out more about Universal Hollywood’s new attraction as it races towards its summer opening date, including the ride vehicles revealed today.
Are you ready?
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Ride Vehicles
In June 2025, we shared the first look at the all-new four-person ride vehicle modeled after the black 1970 Dodge Charger driven by Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) in the blockbuster franchise, but the remaining vehicles were a secret… until now.

The three additional cars racing behind Dom’s black Charger are a blue Nissan Skyline GT-R inspired by the 2002 Nissan driven by Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) as well as an orange Toyota Supra inspired by Walker’s 1994 car featuring the legendary 2JZ-GTE twin turbo inline six engine and an orange Mazda RX-7 inspired by the 1997 car driven by Han Seoul-oh (Sung Kang).

About Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift
Universal Hollywood’s first outdoor thrill ride will feature a state-of-the-art ride system to immerse guests in the high-speed world of the Fast & Furious movies and 360-degree rotating ride vehicles to create what Universal describes as the “sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds,” all while racing at 72 miles-per-hour along 4,100 feet of aerial track with multiple inversions. Sounds like a wild ride, doesn’t it?

Similar to Fast & Furious: Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida, the queue experience for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will take guests through a large, red brick garage-style structure before boarding the ride vehicles.

Currently two Fast & Furious picture cars are parked out front.

The boarding area also features an original mural created by artist Trisran Eaton. The freehand, spray-painted mural depicts the final street racing scene from the original Fast & Furious film, featuring the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra racing against a speeding train.

After boarding the four-car trains, riders will race along the aerial track that winds its way over parts of the theme park, including the “Starway,” escalators that connect the Upper and Lower Lots.
“We are…excited to introduce such an inspiring new ride to our theme park portfolio,” said Universal Studios Hollywood’s Executive Vice President & General Manager Scott Strobl. “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood that will not only transform the topography of our destination but will infuse an entirely new level of adrenaline to our already dynamic theme park.”
We were able to get the first look at the cars being dispatched from the garage.

As the train speeds up and over the Starway, you can see how each individual car “drifts.”

The Road to Opening Day
Since it’s announcement in 2023, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift has had a less-than-normal road to opening day—especially for a company known for its thrill rides. That’s likely because Universal Studios Hollywood is located in the Hollywood Hills surrounded by residential communities and businesses, requiring extensive pre-planning as well as a community impact report which also references Universal’s 25-year “Evolution Plan,” suggesting additional expansion is already planned (and approved) for the theme park.
The fact that the theme park is constructed on two levels also made building a massive roller coaster even more challenging than usual, including securing the attraction’s foundation into a hillside in the middle of California earthquake country.

While it’s true that Universal Studios Hollywood already has one outdoor roller coaster—the family-friendly Flight of the Hippogriff—that ride is insulated within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade.

What’s different about the new high-speed terrain coaster is its position towards the edge of the park’s footprint with populated areas below. Because of that Universal designed the new attraction with a “low-rumble” track and sections enclosed with half-pipe shields.

Plus, those cool cars that rotate 360 degrees to simulate “drift” also turn riders (and their screams) away from neighbors.

Another reason the park may not have not built a large-scale outdoor thrill ride before is its own studio backlot where outdoor filming is common.

The addition of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift follows the March 11, 2025, closure of the similarly themed Fast & Furious—Supercharged on the Universal Studio Tour. What will replace the virtual 3D experience is still unknown, but Universal is promising “an exciting all-new Studio Tour attraction” (and let’s be honest, is anyone sad about this update?)

Twice the Thrills
On Jan. 20, 2026, Universal Orlando announced that a second version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed Aug. 18, 2025. Orlando’s version will open in 2027, with the same 360-degree drifting ride vehicles and a 170-foot vertical “spike” sending riders nearly 17 stories in the air over Universal CityWalk.

Just as it did in California, Fast & Furious – Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida will permanently close in 2027. No replacement attraction has been announced (but again, few people are sad to see it go).
