Andy’s Coming! Toy Story Gears Up to Celebrate 30th Anniversary

This year is full of big anniversaries. While the one on most Disney fans’ minds is likely Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, Disney and Pixar’s beloved movie Toy Story is also celebrating a big milestone. The CG-animated film first landed in theaters on November 22, 1995, making this year its 30th anniversary. To honor this achievement, we’ll explore the many ways you can celebrate all the fun memories from the Toy Story series, and hopefully, make some new memories as well.

Celebrate Toy Story’s 30th Anniversary at Theaters and Disney Parks

Perhaps the biggest element in Toy Story’s 30th anniversary celebration is the film’s return to US theaters, starting September 12. There is nothing quite like seeing a movie on the big screen with a bucket of popcorn by your side. I was fortunate enough to experience Toy Story at the El Capitan Theater as a child, and I am excited for a new generation of children to make similar memories in movie theaters across the country.

And at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, guests can take pictures with everyone’s favorite anxious dinosaur toy, Rex! A meet-and-greet with the beloved character began at the start of Disneyland’s 70th celebration in May. You’ll find him playing around over at Pixar Pier at designated times of the day (check the Disneyland app on the day you are visiting for times).

Also in Disney California Adventure, Toy Story characters, like Woody and Buzz, take part in “Better Together: A Pixar Pals’ Celebration.” This parade debuted during Pixar Fest in 2024 and returned to the Disneyland Resort as part of Disneyland’s 70th celebration.

Rex Interactive Talking Action Figure ($32.99) – Disney Store

This 12-inch tall figure of Rex speaks 14 different phrases from the Toy Story series. Three of the phrases are only uttered when Rex reacts to other interactive Toy Story figures: Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Forky, Zurg, and Alien. Rex also features a moving neck, jaw, shoulders, tail, and legs.

Andy’s Room Series Scene Sets Blind Boxes ($19.99 each) – Pop Mart

Who doesn’t love a good blind box? Each one of these boxes hides one of nine miniature scenes from Andy’s room. Which ones would you hope to find? I adore the Slinky Dog and Rex ones.

Play time includes playing dress up, too. So you can almost think of these fun items as reliving that part of your childhood.

“Andy’s Playtime Pals” Super Stretch Seersucker Short Sleeve Shirt ($70) – RSVLTS

RSVLTS crafted a very special button-up shirt decorated with all your favorite toys. It is made of a stretchy seersucker fabric with a flattering striped print. Sizes range from XS to 4XL.

This small crossbody bag is perfect for when you don’t have much to carry but still want to highlight your fandom. That fan-favorite Disney Parks accessory, the Ear Headband, has a Toy Story twist with this Woody style. Befitting the Sheriff of Andy’s room, the headband swaps out the bow usually found on top for a teeny cowboy hat (Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!) and a metal sheriff badge on the left ear. The band itself mimics the print on Woody’s shirt.

Beyond the hardcover, this 30th anniversary edition is also notable for its foreword, penned by Shawn P. Krause, an animator and layout artist for the original movie.
