Before Disney partnered with Ravensburger to create the wildly popular Disney Lorcana card game series, the companies collaborated to create the Villainous board game series. We’ve reviewed several Villainous titles in the past, and this time, we’ll explore three upcoming games in the series: Disney Villainous Unstoppable!, Disney Villainous: Treacherous Tides, and Star Wars Villainous: Cold Tactics. Let’s take a look!

Disney Villainous Unstoppable!
In Disney Villainous Unstoppable!, two to four players take on the roles of Maleficent, Hades, Ursula, and Scar. At its core, the game’s premise is the same as its predecessors and is a race to see who can be the first to bring their evil scheme to fruition. But how these characters go about accomplishing that goal is somewhat streamlined, allowing for a more fast-paced experience.

Previous Villainous games have each player moving across their own individual game board with unique rules based on who they are playing as. But what sets Disney Villainous Unstoppable! apart is its use of a shared board and set of rules, making it easier to pick up and play. This is part of an effort to make the series more accessible to younger villain-hopefuls. The game is intended for those aged 7 years and up (other titles are for ages 10 and up).

As players move around the game board and take actions, they can expect to have heroes and even fellow players attempt to obstruct their progress. The first one to obtain their four character-specific tokens wins.
Disney Villainous Unstoppable! releases in August from Target for $29.99.
Disney Villainous: Treacherous Tides
Disney Villainous: Treacherous Tides is a traditional entry into the series in terms of gameplay. But veteran players will notice that this is the first of the Disney Villainous titles (as opposed to Marvel or Star Wars) to include a live-action villain: Davy Jones. The master of the underwater underworld is joined by the famed hoarder of all things shiny, Tamatoa.

Like previous entries in the series, each player will have their own game board and set of rules. Davy Jones, who needs to obtain 5 treasure tokens to win, will rely on his crew to do the dirty work and send them to defeat whatever character the treasure belongs to. For Tamatoa to win, he must add Moana’s Heart of Te Fiti and Maui’s Fish Hook to his monstrous collection.

Disney Villainous: Treacherous Tides releases on July 21 at Target for $19.99. It will be available from other retail stores starting on August 1.
Star Wars Villainous: Cold Tactics
Moving from the world of Disney to the galaxy of Star Wars, we’ll now look at the final game in this showcase, Star Wars Villainous: Cold Tactics. Players choose between Count Dooku or Grand Admiral Thrawn. Dooku made his debut in “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.” Thrawn’s first on-screen appearance was in the show “Star Wars Rebels.”

When taking the role of Count Dooku, players will lead the Separatist Movement in hopes of ending the Galactic Republic and thwarting the Jedi. To win, he will need to defeat the Jedi at each neutral organization, swaying them to his side, and then take his place beside Darth Sidious. And for players who choose Grand Admiral Thrawn as their character, their goal is to conquer planets, a process which involves obtaining artifacts and deploying the 7th fleet.

Star Wars Villainous: Cold Tactics launches at Target on July 21 with a retailer-exclusive sleeve and pearlescent Grand Admiral Thrawn character mover. Then, on August 1, the game will release on Amazon and at hobby stores. It will cost $19.99.
