The fear is here! 🎃 Halloween Horror Nights returns for its 34th year at Universal Orlando Resort, unleashing horrifying haunted houses, bone-chilling scare zones, and enough themed food and drinks to raise the dead. The screams started earlier than ever this year, with Halloween kicking off on August 29 and running select nights through November 2.

Here’s your complete survival guide to HHN 34—what’s new, what’s terrifying, and what’s worth lining up for (before something lines up for you).

Universal Orlando HHN Haunted Houses

Halloween Horror Nights 2025 at Universal Orlando Resort features 10 all-new Haunted Houses—some ripped from the biggest names in horror, others dreamt up by the twisted geniuses of Universal Creative. And here’s the real shocker: some of the strongest houses this year aren’t based on IP at all, but on original nightmares.

We’ll walk you through the lineup in (roughly) our order of favorites… though ranking HHN houses is a fool’s errand. Some fans want sheer terror, others crave psychological dread, gore, dark humor—or even stomach-churning gross-outs. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on your tolerance), this year’s lineup serves up a little of everything. 

And be sure to read through for our thoughts on Terrifier. There hasn’t been a haunted house this controversial in years. 

El Artista: A Spanish Haunting (original house)

If there’s one house that defines HHN 34, it’s this one. El Artista isn’t just scary—it’s hauntingly beautiful. Imagine Vincent Van Gogh trapped in a Gothic fever dream, and then possessed for good measure. The result is a living, breathing painting where every corner drips with both artistry and menace. We couldn’t get enough.

“In 19th century Spain, a tortured artist moves into an isolated country manor for inspiration, but the art comes alive and possesses him.”

The influence of El Artista doesn’t stop at its ornate mansion walls. You’ll spot its motifs scattered throughout Horror Nights itself—set pieces echoing its style, eerie flourishes in the scare zones, and even merchandise designs that borrow from its aesthetic. It’s the kind of house that imprints itself on the whole event.

And we aren’t the only ones who think this house is stunning.  HHN designer, Jordan Hill, : 

I don’t say this lightly: This is easily in the top 3 prettiest houses ever built. Every time I’m in there I find something new. The scale is just incredible.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

For anyone who grew up celebrating birthdays at Chuck E. Cheese, this one hits… differently. Five Nights at Freddy’s may not be the scariest house of the year, but it’s absolutely one of the most entertaining—a surreal, twisted parody of your childhood pizza parties.

Based on the 2023 hit film (itself adapted from the cult-favorite horror game), the house follows Mike, the unlucky night security guard tasked with patrolling Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Spoiler: things get weird fast. Supernatural encounters stalk the corridors, and the deeper you go, the more you realize that Freddy’s isn’t just abandoned—it’s hungry.

Guests step straight into iconic moments from the film and games, including the infamous security room and the showroom where the band “performs.” Full-scale replicas of Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even Mr. Cupcake come to life, brought to terrifying perfection in collaboration with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the same team behind the animatronics in the movie.

It’s a bizarre blend of nostalgia and nightmare—less likely to send you running in fear, more likely to leave you nervously laughing at how wrong it all feels. And for fans out west, Freddy is pulling double duty this year with a house at Universal Studios Hollywood as well.

WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks

You don’t need to be a WWE fan to appreciate this house—but a little backstory definitely helps unlock its layers. This maze honors the late Bray Wyatt, who created the Wyatt Sicks, one of the most unsettling and theatrical factions in wrestling history. Bray passed away in August 2024, and this house serves as both tribute and nightmare, bringing his twisted vision to life in ways that are equal parts chilling and heartfelt.

Inside, guests are pulled straight into the fractured minds of the Wyatt Sicks, where each member—Uncle Howdy, Ramblin’ Rabbit, Mercy the Buzzard, Abby the Witch, and Huskus the Pig—waits to deliver their own brand of retribution. Lurking just beyond the flickering shadows is The Fiend, Bray’s most terrifying alter ego, stalking you at every turn.

And about that name—“Sicks.” There are only five characters in the house, but the sixth presence is Bray himself, symbolized by the lantern that appears throughout the experience, and finally resting on a rocking chair in the haunting finale.

It’s rare to walk out of a haunted house with goosebumps and misty eyes, but this one pulls it off. A terrifying tribute, a surreal spectacle, and one of the most unexpectedly emotional houses at HHN 34—it easily earns a top 3 spot on our list.

Terrifier

Terrifier isn’t clowning around. Art the Clown, star of Damien Leone’s cult-favorite Terrifier films, brings his gleefully grotesque brand of murder to Halloween Horror Nights—and the result is one of the most talked-about houses in recent memory.

This is, without exaggeration, one of the most disgusting haunted houses Universal has ever built. We’re talking record numbers of mutilated bodies, fountains of blood, and a level of gore so over the top that they’re selling ponchos outside the entrance. (Yes, really.)

Inside, the infamous bathroom scene alone may test the strongest stomachs with a smell effect that will haunt you long after you’ve escaped (it sticks to your clothes and you can almost taste it) 🤮

But here’s the twist: beneath the buckets of carnage, there’s a strange sense of humor, a dark artistic flair, and even a kind of twisted glee that makes the horror oddly infectious. You’ll spot familiar characters like Vicky and the Little Pale Girl, relive some of Art’s “greatest hits” from the films, and even face his sadistic funhouse from Terrifier 2.

The finale offers two options: a “Dry Path” or a full-blown “Blood Bath.” (West Coast guests don’t get the dry choice—Hollywood’s version makes sure everyone leaves soaked.)

Is it too gross? For some, absolutely. For others, it’s the house of the year. For us, it felt more like surviving than savoring, but it still cracks our top five. And honestly, that’s the point—Universal wants us all walking out debating whether Terrifier finally crossed the line… or set a new one.

Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters (original house)

If Slaughter Sinema 2 planted the seed, Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters is the full, bloody bloom. Spun off from its cameo as a fake “B-movie” in last year’s house, this year it gets the star treatment—and it’s an absolute blast.

“In this Old West town, all hell is breaking loose. Red-hot lava demons are trying to possess everyone, melting everything in their path.”

What makes this one shine isn’t just the concept (though “Red Dead Undead Nightmare” is spot-on). It’s the execution: gorgeous Old West sets, richly detailed environments, and performers who fully sell the chaos of a frontier town under siege. For Dusty, it felt like a spiritual cousin to Knott’s Berry Farm’s classic western haunts—only on Universal’s grander, fire-breathing scale.

Guests are dropped into a cinematic western gone off the rails, where bounty hunters battle lava demons in saloons, mines, and dusty main streets. The energy here is infectious: it’s scary, sure, but also theatrical, funny, and wildly entertaining.

Simply put, Hatchet and Chains is one of the most creative houses this year—and one that proves HHN’s original concepts can hold their own against the biggest IPs.

Gálkn: Monsters of the North (original house)

Every year at HHN, there’s usually one “cold” house—a literal blast of air conditioning that becomes a must in the middle of Florida’s swampy heat. This year’s icy escape comes wrapped in Norse mythology, and it’s a stunner.

Gálkn delivers chilling imagery both figuratively and literally. Frozen landscapes, monstrous Norse animals, and eerie gods come to life in cavernous sets that drip with detail. The combination of howling winds, frosted scenery, and sharp scares makes this one both a relief from the Florida humidity and a genuine “wow” house.

It’s haunting, it’s beautiful, and it’s refreshingly cold—the kind of house that proves HHN can make you shiver for more than one reason.

Fallout

Fans will step into the post-apocalyptic world of Prime Video’s “Fallout,” in a haunted house based on the award-winning video game franchise turned Amazon Prime series. 

The series is set in the year 2296—two hundred years after a nuclear war destroyed civilization—leaving behind a violent hellscape known as The Wasteland, inhabited by mutated animals and creatures, which forces gentle citizens to take refuge underground in luxury fallout shelters known as Vaults.

In the all-new haunted house, fans encounter iconic scenes and characters from the popular series as their journey begins in Vault 33, where they follow vault dweller Lucy MacLean as she escapes a bloody massacre, only to discover an evil, hidden secret. From there, they’ll venture to the surface, where they must dodge attacks from Scavengers and Raiders (survivors who are desperate to remain alive) and mutated cockroaches known as RAD Roaches. As they travel through the hellish Wasteland, guests visit iconic locations like the Super Duper Mart and encounter The Ghoul, an ageless bounty hunter who has endured radiation exposure for centuries, and Maximus, a young squire from the Brotherhood of Steel clad in T-60 armor. 

The Fallout haunted house is also in the line-up at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Jason Universe (or “Un1v3rse” in marketing speak – see how they embedded the 1 and 3 for Friday the 13th?)

The machete-wielding legend is back. Jason Universe resurrects the infamous slasher of Friday the 13th fame, taking guests on a bloody walk down memory lane. The house retraces his origins at summer camp, from Jason’s ramshackle cabin to the rotting main lodge and the surrounding forest where he’s carved out decades of carnage.

On paper, it’s a dream come true for horror fans—an opportunity to step into the legacy of one of cinema’s most iconic killers. And yes, there are some well-realized scenes along the way. But in practice, this maze feels more like a zig-zag gauntlet of Jasons—every iteration, every mask—lunging out one after another. It ends up playing less like a story-driven haunt and more like a conga line of jump scares.

It’s still fun to see the sheer variety of Jasons brought to life, but compared to some of this year’s more imaginative houses, it felt a little flat. Respect to the icon, but this isn’t the strongest resurrection in the lineup.

Dolls: Let’s Play Dead (original house)

“You’re about to become doll-sized and be hunted by toys that have been burnt, melded and stitched together by a twisted little girl.”

Creepy dolls are a haunted house staple—so much so that Universal itself (and practically every other Halloween event out there) has tackled the theme before, and often with sharper results. Dolls: Let’s Play Dead doesn’t exactly break new ground, but it does deliver the simple, reliable thrill of being menaced by mutilated playthings.

Burnt faces, stitched limbs, and uncanny stares come at you from all angles, and while it may not be the most original entry of the year, it’s still hard to shake the unease of a doll’s glassy eyes tracking you in the dark.

Grave of the Flesh (original house)

“Welcome to your funeral, where it’s about to go from bad to worse. You’ll enter the underworld and be hunted by flesh-eaters for eternity.”

Grave of the Flesh starts off strong: an eerie cemetery setting, a descent into your own open grave, and the promise of a truly unsettling journey into the afterlife. Unfortunately, once you’re “six feet under,” things get murkier. Are we in hell? Are those creatures demons… or aliens? Who exactly is attacking us, and why? The story never quite settles, leaving the scares feeling disconnected.

To its credit, there are enough jolts, creepy corridors, and gory touches to keep you entertained in the moment—that’s the baseline purpose of any haunted house, after all. But compared to the tighter storytelling of other HHN originals this year, this one felt less like a nightmare and more like a grab bag of frights.

Scare Zones

Scare zones are where Halloween Horror Nights really seeps into your bones—because even if you skip the haunted houses, you can’t escape the horror on the streets. This year, the park is packed with highly themed zones, each dropping you into its own twisted storyline. And it feels like Universal has gone bigger than usual: towering set pieces dominate many pathways, so big they can’t even be wheeled away during the day.

Mutations: Toxic Twenties

“In a 1920s neighborhood, a BuzzCon truck with radioactive cargo crashes into a mobster getaway car sending the city into toxic pandemonium.”

The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane

“Travel down a spooky winding path to a mysterious home, where trick-or-treaters are transformed into feral felines. Be careful or you’ll be next.”

This year’s Circus of Decay is part Cirque du Soleil, part horror show, and one hundred percent a pyromaniac’s fantasy. Think acrobatics, illusions, and jaw-dropping stunts, all drenched in flames and attitude

Thrilling, sultry, and over-the-top in the best way, it feels like a hellfire circus spectacular—the rare HHN show that could stand alone as an attraction. We loved every scorching minute.

Haunt-O-Phonic: A Ghoulish Journey

“A ghost story is rising from its watery grave to haunt the Universal Studios lagoon, featuring towering water screens and eerie music.”

Haunt-O-Phonic makes clever use of the lagoon, mixing projection, fountains, and music to create a moody ghost story that feels more atmospheric than terrifying. It’s not the pulse-pounding spectacle of Nightmare Fuel, but rather a slower, more haunting experience—something you take in between houses rather than race across the park to catch. The visuals are impressive, the music is chilling, and while it may not be the night’s showstopper, it adds a nice layer of ghostly ambiance to the overall event.

Tribute Store

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the highly-themed Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store, and this year, it’s housed in a 1920s-era occult antiquities exhibit.

The 2025 Tribute Store is located on New York Street (at the exit for the Mummy attraction).

There’s a Halloween Horror Nights 34 merch collection, but there are also seperate collections for individual haunted houses and scare zones.

A collectible Halloween Horror Nights frame holds pieces from each IP-based house to create a stained glass-style mural within the frame.

The frame and each piece are sold separately.

New this year is a “Deathly Afraid” lanyard that guests can wear to minimize contact with scareactors in scare zones (inside haunted houses, everyone is fair game).
