One of the things that makes Disney attractions so compelling is their backstory. Whether it be for a ride or a land, knowing its narrative contributes to a more immersive experience. If you’ve visited Avengers Campus, you may be scratching your head when it comes to some of the sights found within the compound. Like I once was, you may be unaware of the hidden meanings behind the terminology and overall concepts. So, in celebration of the upcoming Avengers’ 60th anniversary, let’s take a look at some interesting facts about the land!

Avengers’ 60th Anniversary
Before we begin, let’s delve into a bit of history! On September 1, 1963, Marvel released the first Avengers comic book. Written by none other than Stan Lee, Jack Kirby collaborated as the cover artist and penciler. If you have yet to watch the biographical documentary, Stan Lee on Disney+, I highly encourage you to do so! It’s fascinating and inspiring to witness both the progression of the comics and Lee’s personal development within the field.
Lee and Kirby united to assemble the unique forces of Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and more, with the characters becoming “Earth’s Mightiest Super-Heroes.” Check out Loki in the foreground of the cover, and don’t forget Season 2 of Loki premieres on Disney+ on October 6!

Throughout the years, Disney has peppered us with films galore, celebrating unique characters via the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Today, they continue to make an impact, with relatable attributes earning their way into the hearts of viewers. If you’re a Marvel fan, you can celebrate this year’s anniversary with a special collection currently available on shopDisney!

Avengers Campus: Everything You Need to Know About Disneyland’s Newest Land
There are two attractions in the land, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
The area offers an immersive experience with characters and shows throughout. You can visit Dr. Strange in the Ancient Sanctum, watch Spider-Man soar through the air above his ride, or even learn a combat lesson from the Dora Milaje.
Or, catch several of your favorite super-heroes at Avengers Headquarters.

Food offerings range from Pym Test Kitchen and Tasting Lab—one of my personal favorites— to Shawarma Palace, and Terran Treats.
There are also a couple of cool shops in the land, and a new one is on the way!
But, are you familiar with these fun facts about Avengers Campus?
Legendary Details About Avengers Campus
When I first heard the phrase “Avengers Campus” I wondered about its terminology. Did you know that Campus is an acronym for Centralized Assembly Mobilized to Prepare, Unite, and Safeguard? This helps explain the purpose of the land. You enter as a new recruit, gaining knowledge from various Avengers to help you on your training journey. Iron Man himself inherited the compound from his dad, Howard Stark, and thus, Avengers Campus was born. Tony Stark has enlisted the aid of innovators like Peter Parker to create new technology and train a new generation of super-heroes. Acronyms are a running theme in the land. WEB stands for Worldwide Engineering Brigade.

Speaking of Spider-Man, did you know that WEB SLINGERS is Disney’s first Spider-Man-themed ride? Don’t miss Easter Eggs like a secret map of Avengers Campus located on the ramp before boarding. You’ll also notice Lucky Dog Pizza boxes dispersed around the workshop (IYKYK). I spy a couple below!

Legend has it sorcerers called Vishanti constructed Sanctums in powerful locations across the globe. Once upon a time, one of these sites was erected in what’s now the Avengers Campus.

If you happen to spot Iron Man, pay attention to what he’s wearing. Hardcore fans will notice a special armor, never before seen across the MCU, the Mark 80.
In addition to Spider-Man’s first appearance in a ride-through, Avengers Campus celebrates other unprecedented events. For example, Taskmaster, a villain showcased in Black Widow, debuted at Avengers Campus in a Disney Parks’ first. Additionally, Avengers Campus regularly features new characters in a synergistic move with new MCU offerings.
The Tivan Collection can be found in the building where Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! resides. Owned by Tanaleer Tivan, aka the Collector (played by Benicio del Torro in the films), it came from the planet Knowhere. Its mysterious arrival is still an object of speculation. Once inside, Guests are treated to his collection, which features some quirky and familiar objects.

If you’re an Avengers fan, you might relish the post-credits scenes. At the end of The Avengers, after their fight in New York, the superheroes head out for some shawarma at the recommendation of Tony Stark. They sit in silence as they munch on their food, each in perfect form with their character. It’s a short, but sweet, comical display not easily forgotten. Shawarma Palace was inspired by this brief clip.
Not only is this a good place to pick up a quick bite (there are actually two carts in the land!), but you’ll also discover some fun, themed novelties here. Check out our article for more details!
