About “Rogers: The Musical”
“Rogers: The Musical” is a fictional Broadway musical that was created for the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” It’s inspired by the life of the first Captain America, Steve Rogers. A real-life version of the show has been created for Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater for a limited time.

Here’s a little teaser that Disney released on TikTok:
@disneyparks A timeless story of a timeless hero! 🇺🇸💫 #CaptainAmerica #SteveRogers #Avengers #Disneyland #Disney #DisneyParks #Musical #Show #Performance #Hero #CaliforniaAdventure ♬ original sound – Disney Parks

“Rogers: The Musical” is a 30-minute, one-act musical that explores themes of heroism, romance, and self-discovery. The story follows Steve Rogers’ journey to become Captain America while developing his romantic relationship with Peggy Carter. This show is geared not only toward Avengers super fans but also theater-goers and families too. Though, if you’re an Avengers expert, there are lots of things you’ll pick up on like creative interpretations of iconic objects and moments such as Steve’s notebook and the Time Stone to revisit his past.
For the DCA version of “Rogers: The Musical,” the one-act play features the production number “Save the City” from the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” Guests will also hear “Star Spangled Man” from the film “Captain America: The First Avenger,” plus five new original songs. The show’s score promises an eclectic mix of musical styles, including big band jazz, modern funk, classic orchestra, and more. And to perfectly complement the music, the cast will perform original choreography that incorporates dance styles from across the decades.

The production leans heavily into the campiness of what was shown in the Hawkeye series, so it doesn’t take itself too seriously. For instance, the Avengers and other characters wear costumes that are a casual interpretation of their regular looks. Additionally, the musical utilizes a combination of two-dimensional scenery, physical set pieces, and the theater’s 2,200-square-foot video screen to transform the Hyperion into New York.

In the Hawkeye series, the Avengers were invited to the premiere of “Rogers: The Musical,” even though only Hawkeye showed up. But viewers of the show got to experience an approximate 5-minute sequence from the musical. The epic “Save the City” sequence was inspired by the battle of New York featured in the film “The Avengers.”
Songwriting team Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman co-wrote the lyrics, with Shaiman also producing the actual song recording in the original version of “Rogers: The Musical” seen in “Hawkeye.”

Let’s Hear From You
We really enjoyed “Rogers: The Musical” during a media preview on June 29th! It reminds us a lot of a Disney Cruise Line production. That’s not a bad thing. This is a limited-run show (June 30th through August 31st), and very good for a limited-budget production only intended to run for two months. We hope it’s either extended or becomes a regular offering on the Cruise Line. We could even imagine this as a trial run for a much larger Broadway production. Keep in mind that the show leans in heavily on camp, has plenty of humor. The crowd at the two performances we saw were enthuastic about the blockbuster voices and performances.
How does “Rogers: The Musical” sound to you?
And, since this is just a limited-time run, what would you like to see end up in the Hyperion Theater next? Hercules perhaps? A villains-themed show? Another Marvel-themed production? Get creative.
