More than 29 months after going dark, Disneyland has reopened its beloved Silhouette Studio on Main Street.
The offerings are the same (at $11.99 per face) and the space looks familiar—though in recent weeks Disney refreshed the wallpaper and upgraded a table. The one change will be, when demand warrants, the shop will offer a mobile wait list.
The shop had operated continuously from 1956 until March 2020, when the entire park shut down (along with most other entertainment in the world). It, like the recently reopened Submarine Voyage, was among the last shuttered facilities to return, likely due to their tight quarters.
The silhouette artist, however, was a Disneyland original. The first, Alex DeGonslar, cut his trade since Opening Day in 1955 from a space subleased from the Pen Shop on Main Street. Walt Disney was such a fan, he personally demanded DeGonslar be given his own space after Grandma’s Baby Shop closed after a few months.
