Dole Whip. The name conjures good feelings and memories in my mind. It’s a tasty pineapple treat that takes me right back to Disneyland, where I can almost hear the sounds of the Enchanted Tiki Room playing in the background. Ah, frozen pineapple goodness.
With summer just around the corner, I wanted to know if I could capture the delicious taste of Dole Whips at home— especially since I’m not near Disneyland! From what I could find, there are three official recipes, direct from the people who would know all about making Dole Whip. And I don’t know about you, but when I see different versions of the same thing, I want to try them all!

And what fun would it be to try these by myself? These kind of things are always better to do with family and friends! Let’s make some Dole Whip!
Disney Parks “Frozen Pineapple Treat” recipe

I gathered the kids and their cousins, and together they helped measure the ingredients. I made sure to chill everything in the fridge and freezer ahead of time. Of course the pineapple juice has to be Dole.
Adding the frozen pineapple chunks to the blender and we’re almost ready to go.
Just a little bit of vanilla ice cream to finish this off. Keep in mind that the Dole Whip that is served inside the Disney Parks is dairy free, so this technically isn’t the same. We’ll just have to see how it tastes though— especially considering this is an “official” recipe.

Not to make this an advertisement, but I adore my Vitamix Blender. It pulverizes solid chunks of fruit and blends everything smooth. After a couple minutes, I scooped everything into a piping bag in placed it in my freezer to firm up a little further until we’re ready to taste them all. Time to make the next treat!

Now if there’s one other group that you’d think would know how to make Dole Whip, it would be the people who created it in the first place. The good folks at Dole!

There’s no dairy in this one, but those bananas have me a little worried. I don’t taste any banana flavor when I’m eating a Dole Whip at Disneyland, so I think this one is going to be a little off.
I refrigerated and froze everything ahead of time again to keep things from getting too warm and melting. I wasn’t thinking about refrigerated coconut milk, and how the fats would separate from the liquid. Either way, it will blend up just fine.
It goes in looking like this.
I agree Alli, that blender is really loud. This recipe has less liquid than the first, so it took a little bit longer in the blender.
But once it did combine, it’s looking like tasty soft serve. I scooped everything into a piping bag and put it into the freezer until I was ready to serve it.
Dole Soft Serve – Pineapple Flavored Mix
I remember when it used to be that Dole Whip outside of Disneyland was difficult to find. Now though it seems like it’s available at almost every self-serve frozen yogurt shop you see. But if you still want to make it at home, it’s super easy to find Pineapple-Flavored Soft Serve Mix from Dole! Packages of the dry mix can easily be found on Amazon.com for around $30, and it will make 72 servings!
While the recipes above use simple ingredients, the back of this package is a page out of a chemistry book. I’m sure it’s tasty though.
The dry powder is mixed water in a 1:3 ratio. One part mix to 3 parts liquid. The package suggests water, though for a creamier end product, you could also include a little lactose-free milk.

Dole Whip Taste Testing
Now that we’ve got all three versions whipped up and chilled, we’re ready to conduct our taste tests.
Here’s the #CookingWithDisneyParks Frozen Pineapple Treat, made with frozen pineapples, pineapple juice, and vanilla ice cream.
And also the Dole Soft Serve Pineapple Mix, straight from the soft serve ice cream maker.
And finally the Dole.com DIY Dole Whip recipe, blended from frozen pineapples, bananas, and coconut milk.

It should come as no surprise that the Dole Soft Serve Mix tastes just like what you can find at the Disney parks. Make a large batch, play some Tiki Room music, then close your eyes and imagine you’re sitting in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.
Our second favorite, and the much more easily accessible recipe, comes from #CookingWithDisneyParks. Their recipe doesn’t quite have the tang or mouth-feel of an original Dole Whip, but it does taste like a very good pineapple ice cream. This was a very good substitute.

Theresa’s got the right idea. Eating Dole Whip directly out of the frozen bowl.
And one thing you don’t get when you make Dole Whip at home yourself is what my family likes to call the “Void of Disappointment”. You know, when you get a nice big cup of delicious Dole Whip from Disneyland, only to discover that the inside is completely hollow! It’s such a bummer; looks can certainly be deceiving. However, if you make it yourself, you can have as much Dole Whip as you want (until you run out)!
