Welcome to the Disneyland Merchandise Update! This week has a bit of sweet and sour flavor to it. We are starting off with worrisome inventory issues but don’t worry, there are still new items to explore. Let’s take a look!
Purchase Limits at WDW and Disneyland
Supply chain issues, which have affected the entire world’s economy, are starting to be seen in the Disney Parks on both coasts. Because of the reduced capacity to ship products from factories, purchase limits have been instated on the decreasing supply of merchandise at the Parks.
At Walt Disney World, there is a limit of two per item per guest on any piece of merchandise. It doesn’t matter what kind of merchandise it is— seasonal, everyday, or whatever— the limit still applies. However, at Disneyland, guests are allowed to buy five items per guest. Additionally, the purchase limit in Disneyland is only applicable to seasonal merchandise as well as items that are limited edition or limited release.
Even with the limits in place, guests may still spot empty shelves on their next visit.
I can’t help but wonder if this supply shortage is the reason for some of last year’s Halloween merchandise reappearing this year. For example, the Hades light-up headband, as well as the quartet of Hocus Pocus plushes, were all available last year. Admittedly, the latter was sold in Disney Stores and shopDisney but are still not new merchandise. And, of course, they likely had a very hard time selling seasonal merchandise while the parks were closed last year, even with Downtown Disney still opened for limited crowds, so they are entitled to keep selling the inventory they have.
I have always been of the mind that, if you really love a piece of merchandise, (in most cases) you should buy it right then, in the event it sells out later in the day. That seems like it will be even more true now. However, I implore you, dear readers, not to buy duplicates of things to sell just because of their scarcity.
Perhaps the supply shortages were part of the reason for the speeded up closure of all the Disney Stores as well. More on that sad story below:

Apparel
Last week was Disney’s World Princess Week celebration and, even if you missed the festivities, there is still plenty of merchandise to purchase.
The most notable of which would be this new line of Princess-themed apparel, which features phrases and icons inspired by different Disney heroines.
If you are hoping for something in primary colors rather than pastels, Mickey and the gang have got you covered in this new collection of apparel.
Women can opt for this Sleeping Beauty Castle hoodie as well. It definitely seems as though there are more options in women’s styles than there are for men.
Hammering that point home is this hi-lo Hidden Mickey hoodie, another piece designed with women in mind.
This peculiar find is from Port Royal Curios & Curiosities in New Orleans Square. While the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! has yet to make its return, I wonder if this logo sweatshirt is hinting at that changing soon.
I may not be the biggest fan of the edgy, punk rock-style Haunted Mansion collection overall but something about this hooded flannel shirt speaks to me. Is it the soft, jersey-knit hood? Or maybe the purple and grey color scheme? I really can’t say but I do know that this one will likely end up in my closet.
Accessories
From the same collection as the hooded flannel comes this crossbody bag and boy, does it have a lot going on. It’s got some screen-printed graphics, several patches, and a few buttons plus metal chains and studs.
This Ear Headband, like the crossbody bag and the flannel, combines photorealistic images and some metal embellishments here and there into its design.
For a more perky Ear Headband, this confetti-filled one fits the bill. It has a veritable rainbow of sequins on the bow and band. And inside the ears are handfuls of confetti, some of which are Hidden Mickeys.
Much like the tops (and lounge pants) introduced earlier in this Update, these two baseball caps are all about princesses, specifically Ariel and Belle.
Peter Parker’s alter ego, Spider-Man, is now immortalized in the form of a Mini Backpack, courtesy of Loungefly. The bag incorporates the web-like design from his superhero suit in its exterior as well as on the straps. Hidden on the back is the phrase “The Amazing Spider-Man.”
Loungefly also granted Captain American the Mini Backpack treatment. And just like Spidey’s, this design is made to resemble the Avenger’s outfit. “The Living Legend” is embossed on the back of the bag.
Captain Marvel already has several Mini Backpack designs to call her own but now she can add Loungefly’s canvas backpack to her repertoire. I love this style of bag. They are roomier than the traditional Mini Backacks and have a unique charm. This one in particular is decorated with the heroine’s emblem.
Odds & Ends
I will admit that while I don’t completely comprehend the appeal of Crocs, I won’t deny their apparent popularity. This popcorn bucket-themed footwear is part of a new merchandise collection dedicated to the snack. The front is covered with a popcorn print (complete with Hidden Mickeys) with Mickey Bucket-shaped charms fastened to it. Along the sides is a white and red-striped pattern, reminiscent of a popcorn box.
Kids were treated to a Crocs design, created just for them, with wraparound art of Lightning McQueen from Cars.
Several new iPhone case designs recently cropped up. The Mickey and Minnie cases both have 3D art used on the characters and details in the background. I also spotted a clear case with a Minnie Mouse patch embedded in it.
The Disney Babies plush line can be relatively hit-or-miss in terms of design choices but I think this Dante one is a real winner. The loyal dog is depicted in a puppy version of his alebrije form. And all over his swaddling pouch are colorful images of candy skulls and marigolds.
Meanwhile, at Aulani
August 29 was the 10th anniversary for Aulani, Disney’s Resort and Spa in Hawai’i to help get the party started Mickey and a few of his friends donned new attire. The special leis they wear have a hidden “10” carved onto the turtle ornament’s shell.
Over at Kalēpa’s Store, located just off the hotel’s lobby, guests will find a fun assortment of Halloween merchandise. It is a mix of goods found in the Stateside Disney Parks and items exclusive to Aulani. The latter includes items like the pineapple Jack-o’-lantern baseball cap and the similarly themed kids shirt and adult Spirit Jersey.
What’s This? Nightmare Before Christmas nuiMOs and Halloween Outfits Coming Next Monday
If you guessed that September’s nuiMOs releases included Nightmare Before Christmas characters, you have earned yourself a congratulatory Pumpkin Spice Latte! Jack and Sally of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas have taken nuiMO form are all ready to be dolled up for the Halloween season. Of course, the two plushes are joined by new outfits as well.
[The Jack and Sally nuiMOs plushes along with the outfits shown in this section release on September 6. The links provided here will not be active until that time.]
The Jack and Sally nuiMOs ($21.99 each) retain the essence of the characters but also have that cute nuiMOs look to them. They come dressed in their traditional attire but are more than happy to switch getups with any other outfits you happen to have on hand.
And every nuiMOs plush in collection can get into the spirit of the season with several new Halloween-themed outfits ($12.99 each). Options include the Pumpkin Suit and Tie, Black and Orange Dress with Witch Hat Headband, and the Happy Haunts Shirt with Plaid Skirt (my personal favorite).
Some other outfits are also releasing this month. There are two food-related ones ($12.99 each), the Avocado Bodysuit with Slippers and the Sushi Pajamas with Sleep Mask. The final one is a nuiMOs-sized Disneyland Spirit Jersey in Mint ($21.99).
Build-a-Bear Workshop’s Ursula Bear Rises from the Deep
Build-a-Bear Workshop’s latest online-exclusive bundle is themed to The Little Mermaid’s villainous sea witch, Ursula. Their Ursula Inspired Plush Bear Bundle ($58) includes the pre-stuffed bear with a sound chip with the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” on it along with a doll costume version of Ursula’s tentacled dress. With details like the embroidered interpretations of the villain’s scheming eyes and sinister smile, the bear certainly looks fit to represent the baddie. Will you be adding this plush to your collection?
