Grand Floridian Hotel & Spa

For me, it was love at first sight with Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort. Six years ago on my very first Walt Disney World trip, that was the hotel I stayed in and it’s been complete adoration ever since. There are several aspects of the hotel that are near and dear to me. I love the Victorian architecture of the resort. It’s formal and proper but also homey and welcoming. This resort was inspired by the Floridian beach resorts built during the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is actually inspired by existing hotels in New Hampshire, Mount Washington Resort, and Hotel del Coronado in California.

The quiet elegance of the hotel lobby is second to none at WDW. The white walls, rich tones in the carpet, and luxurious furnishings all make the perfect entry scene. The five-story lobby also features a replica cage elevator, stained glass dome skylights, and Italian marble floors with various Disney characters. And I always love hearing the live music in the lobby.

A few years ago, I helped my best friend celebrate her 50th birthday at the Grand Floridian. I scheduled a massage for us and told the attendant that my friend was celebrating a special day. They surprised her with a glittered birthday button and a small tiara in a wooden box! After our relaxing spa treatments, we enjoyed a lovely tea in the Garden View Tea Room with our children.

One of the best parts of staying on Club Level in the Main Building is the amazing food that is available practically all day. Among the assortment of snacks you can find there, the chocolate chip cookies really stand out. In this recipe from the Grand Floridian, the magical secret ingredient is to use powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar. This simple swap makes the cookie taste so light and they just melt in your mouth. I hope that you get a chance to try these out!

While I haven’t been back to the Grand Floridian this year, I was able to bring some of my copycat chocolate chip cookies for a recent Girls Day Out at Disneyland!

  6. Use a 2-Tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the dough onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. I press a few chocolate chips on the top of the cookie to make it look professional and then give it a little smoosh to flatten the cookie slightly.

The powdered sugar really makes these cookies taste lighter and silkier. They were the perfect treat for my friends when we went to Disneyland last month for a Girls Day Out.
