Disney California Adventure’s new Avengers Campus got off to a bit of a rocky start. On opening day, guests lined up for up to 8 hours for a chance to see the super-hero themed land. Unfortunately, the main attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, requires a Virtual Queue spot in order to ride (with no standby available) and Mobile Order was practically required to eat in the land. With only a tiny shop and some character shows left for guests to enjoy, there were lots of guests who had waited the better part of the day to see a land that they really couldn’t experience much of.

Update: This article has been updated to include more showtimes

Because the investment in time to get into the land is significant, many guests are reluctant to leave once they get in because out of fear they won’t get back in again. That means some difficult guest conditions inside the land (few tables available for dining, long lines for food, and limited shade).

Early morning guests are met with endless lines for Avengers Campus.

The promise of Avenger’s Campus sounds exciting. See Spider-Man fly above the rooftops of the Campus; experience Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain America and others battling the bad guys under the shadow of a life-sized Quinjet; and Dr. Strange stepping out of a portal into a small outdoor theater space to perform actual magic. But one of the biggest complaints from guests was wandering around not knowing where or when to see any of the land’s entertainment.

Disney has been paying attention and has already started making changes. A big one will begin rolling out as today, when showtimes for Avengers Campus will start showing up in the Disneyland app (The Guardians of the Galaxy Dance Off is already listed)!  That’s big news as it will allow guests to prioritize the shows that are most important to them and then hopefully leave the land so other guests can enter.

Update 6/11/21 4pm: The entertainment schedule has been listed for the Spider-Man and Dr. Strange shows. The schedule can be found in the Disneyland app, so be sure to plan accordingly if you want to see these entertainment options.

Show times aren’t the only change. In recent days, Disney has added additional outdoor vending to Avengers Campus, removed the popular Shawarma carts from the Mobile Order system, and have added additional stand-by capacity to the clever PYM Test Kitchen and Tasting Lab – all of which makes it easer for guests to find something to eat.

And while lines to get into the land continue to be very long, especially in the mornings, there have been a few times already where the line disappears near the end of the operating day.

We’d still like to see Disney swap the virtual queue for WEB SLINGERS for one for the land instead, so guests can enjoy their DCA day instead of standing in line for hours on end. But we are glad to see some progress being made to improve the guest experience so quickly
