There is nothing quite like the love shared between a pet and its human. My dog means the world to me and I absolutely love to give her gifts. Lucky for me, there are ways for me to share my love of Disney with my sweet girl. So, let’s take a look at some great Disney merchandise currently available for your pet.
Disney Pet Merchandise from Chewy
The pet supply site, Chewy, recently launched its Disney Pet Collection, which contains over 400 items featuring Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel characters. Here is a look at some of the collection’s highlights. Some of these items have been so popular that they sold out right away. But you can enter your email on the site to be notified when the items are back in stock.
Let’s start with some Disney items for dogs:
For those extra-special occasions, a little accessory goes a long way. This reversible bandana fits the bill well and it gives Disney fans two designs to choose from. Both sides are themed to Mickey and Minnie Mouse but one is a print while the other is more of a single graphic. It comes in two sizes, extra-small/small and medium/large, and is secured by a patch of velcro. The choice of velcro was a good one because it allows for some (admittedly small) adjustments in sizing.
Maddie, seen in the picture above, is wearing the medium/large size and to be honest, that bandana was barely hanging on. She isn’t terribly fat but she is extremely fluffy and it took some maneuvering to get the bandana to fit. It would be nice if a larger size option was offered in the future.
- Pluto Pillow Cat & Dog Bed ($34.99)
There are quite a few options for pet beds on Chewy but this one, with adorable art of Pluto as a young puppy lining the sides, is my pick for dogs. It has a super-fuzzy top fabric, which is texture I know my dog gravitates towards, and is stuffed with polyester fiber filling. The bed comes in two sizes, large and extra-large.
- Hyper Pet Buzz, Woody & Bo Peep Flying Disney Dog Toy ($9.99, marked down to $7.95)
If your canine companion enjoys chasing after frisbees, this might be their next favorite toy. It is made of nylon fabric, which is not only safe to be chewed on but is also durable enough to stand up to gnawing. And if your furry friend likes to play in the water, this toy also happens to float, making it perfect for a day at the dog beach. And the art on the disc includes our Toy Story pals, Woody, Buzz, and Bo Peep.
Tug-of-war is a favorite pastime for many dogs and this toy is designed for just that. The woven handle makes it easier for you to get a grip on the toy without putting your fingers at risk of being accidentally nipped while still giving your pal plenty of surface area to grab on to. Inside the Spider-Man-themed toy is a squeaker surrounded by polyester fiberfill. This toy measures 9 inches in length with an additional 6 inches for the handle.
This trio of tennis balls are not only great for playing fetch but they’re also impressively detailed. I mean, just look at them! You can see X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and even the Millennium Falcon circling the “Death Star.” Some serious thought went into the art on these. Beyond looking really cool, each ball also has a built-in squeaker.
Now let’s look at some clever Disney items Chewy has for cats:
I know the description says it’s for cats as well as dogs but doesn’t this piece just look better suited for our feline friends? The dome portion of the bed is made of flexible foam. The actual portion used for sleeping is a cushion with a cozy, micro plush top and an oxford fabric bottom, which has a water and dirt-resistant quality to help keep the floor under the bed clean, should any accidents occur. And thankfully, it is safe to clean the cushion in the washer and dryer.
I have never seen Stormtroopers look so cute! This set of three Stormtrooper Mice are stuffed with catnip and have rope tails, adding extra playability to the toy. And you can’t feel bad about your cat catching them since they’re the bad guys. Sounds good to me!
And if you’d rather have your cat chase Mickey around the house, there’s a Mickey, Minnie and Goofy version.
I am loving the inventive usage of Disney licenses for these cat toys. This teaser toy is stuffed with catnip along with crinkle paper. “Ironman’s” suit trails with curly ribbons while dangling from a stick for you to then dangle before your cat. Fun for everyone!
For yet another style of plaything, we have this kicker toy. Intended for cats who are rough on their toys, it is designed to withstand more than the average amount of play. On the inside, the toy is stuffed with catnip and crinkle paper. Plus, it looks like our old pal, Woody!
Intended to help reduce tartar on your cat’s teeth (apparently by as much as 40%), these little chicken-flavored treats would be a lovely surprise or reward for your kitty. Beyond the art on the bag, there doesn’t seem any other link to The Lion King.
Pet Merchandise from the Disneyland Resort
If you are lucky enough to be able to visit the Disneyland Resort, you can bring a little gift home for your dog or cat (provided your feline friend will tolerate attire).
Spirit Jerseys for Dogs (or Very Patient Cats)
Spirit Jerseys are always a popular item in stores for humans, and there are even some pet styles available. You’ll find them over at Disney Home and World of Disney in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney.
Other Disneyland Resort Pet Outfits
While they may appear at first glance to be the same as the Spirit Jerseys (almost identical hanger and both are from the Disney Tails line), these pet shirts are are purely Disney-made and thus come at a lower price ($24.99 versus $36.99 – and don’t forget about those Legacy Passholder discounts!). Some of these designs are remarkably adorable, especially the Donald Duck costume one seen directly below.
There are also other designs that look like they were made to be shirts worn at the Parks. In fact, the design with Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas was originally found on a kid’s shirt.
In addition to the standard pet shirts, this woven pet sweater is also an option. It has a cowl neck, which is aesthetically pleasing but I am not sure how comfortable it is for the pet wearing it.
Pet Merchandise from shopDisney
shopDisney has a variety of pet products to choose from. I’ve selected some items below that I think are worthwhile.
- Rex Costume T-Shirt for Dogs ($24.99)
Much like the Donald Duck shirt we saw in the previous section, this outfit is designed as a simple costume for you dog. This one is themed to Rex from Toy Story. You’ll spot the toy dinosaur’s tail printed on the shirt’s backside. This item is available in sizes ranging from extra-small to extra-large.
- The Haunted Mansion Ghost Host/Hostess Costume Pet Harnesses ($39.99, sold separately)
These harnesses are designed to match the costumes belonging to the Cast Members of the beloved Disney Parks attraction, The Haunted Mansion and they certainly do a delightful job. The “costume” portion is built on top of mesh harness vest that is secured with an adjustable snap toggle along with metal D rings for the lead. These items are only available in small and medium sizes.
- Zero Dog House Pet Bed ($34.95 or $44.95, depending on size)
The abode of Zero, Jack Skellington’s ghostly sidekick in The Nightmare Before Christmas, is now envisioned as a pet bet. It has details, like textured faux shingles on the roof (which is detachable via self-stitch closures) and Zero’s name above the bed’s entrance, to make it look just like the one in the movie. The pet bed also has a removable mattress insert with a nylon bottom, which is machine washable. It comes in medium and large sizes.
- Mickey Mouse Reflective Dog Lead, Medium – Purple ($17.99)
Safety is the name of the game with this dog lead. It features a reflective covering for extra-visibility on walks. There are also images of Hidden Mickeys and bones along the lead to add a touch of Disney magic.
- Disney Princess Pet Toy Ball Set ($17.99)
This is the Disney Parks take on toy balls for fetching. The outside is covered with art of castles and other Disney Princess-themed icons (like Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage). And hidden on the inside of each of the three balls is a squeaker.
- Disney Cats Cat Toy ($17.99)
Taken from the Reigning Cats and Dogs Collection, one of three ribbons on this cat teaser wand has art of well-known and some lesser-known felines of the Disney realm. The wand itself is glittery. It sounds like this was made with the human in mind as well. Who wouldn’t have fun waving this thing around?
