This long, long year will soon be coming to a close and Disneyland has the merchandise to prove it! In this Update, we’ll explore the new Disneyland Resort 2021 Merchandise Collection, along with tons of items from the upcoming Disney-Pixar film, Soul. And of course, there are a few extra surprises to discover. Let’s get this party started!

Ring In The New Year Right
The 2021 Merchandise Collection uses the art style seen in the Mickey Shorts cartoon. So if that style is a turn-off, I am afraid you are going to be disappointed with this collection. Personally, I find the change of pace refreshing. The primary color scheme is less my cup of tea, however.
This is the adult hoodie from the collection. Both the Disneyland logo and the year “2021” are very big and easy to see. I actually really like Sleeping Beauty Castle drawn in this style.

As for other adult’s layering options, here we see a cartoon-filled short-sleeved tee and a more simple long-sleeved one.

There are several pieces in this collection for your youngsters as well. There is this boy’s hoodie, girl’s hoodie (which I will discuss further in a moment), as well as a girl’s ringer tee and boy’s shirt that matches the adult-sized short-sleeved shirt we just saw.
Now returning to the girl’s hoodie, you’ll notice the color scheme is different than the rest of the items in this collection, with the exception of the girl’s ringer tee and girl’s toddler onesie, which we will see shortly. It seems odd to me that Disney would single out these items and decide, “yes, girls need a different color scheme.” What do you all think?

I tend to not think much of the outfits for toddlers and babies. But I think these onesies are actually really cute. My favorite detail is found on the Mickey one. The hood is topped with plush mouse ears.

The 2021 Collection’s cinch backpack is covered with a large Mickey face joined by the year along with Sleeping Beauty Castle, Space Mountain, and a snippet of the Disneyland logo.

What’s a new year without a new Ear Headband? This particular one does not have a bow attached to the top (which is more commonly seen), making it more appealing to a wider audience.

Also in the category of “Things that Go on Your Head” is this trucker hat. “2021” wraps around the mesh back with a portion of the Disneyland logo on the front. You can find the whole “Disneyland Resort” embroidered on the bill.

This 16-month calendar uses images from Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. It’s a mix of landscape views of locales, like Grizzly Peak in Disney California Adventure, and closeups of characters, like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Captain America.

Even if you aren’t planning on tossing a bunch of confetti around your home to ring in the new year (it is a pain to clean up, after all), you can do the next best thing and shake up this water globe. Mickey, Minnie and Sleeping Beauty Castle are this globe’s figures.

Next, we’ll move on to drinking vessels. Options include a tumbler with a straw, a coffee mug, and a “toothpick holder,” which let’s be honest here, it’s a shot glass. Thank you, cleverly worded marketing team!

Cheaper novelties include this rotating keychain and a magnet.

Kids and toy collectors might be interested in the toy truck from this collection, modeled after a Peterbilt 387 Hauler.

This jointed Mickey Mouse is a simpler (pretty boring, actually) toy option. It’s an interesting choice since they deviated from the Mickey Shorts design for this character.

And finally, we arrive at my favorite piece of the 2021 merchandise collection, the Mickey Mouse plush. The Big Cheese is made up of several different textures of fabric. And I just love the print they used on his body.

A Soul-ful Selection
Disney and Pixar’s Soul has an impressive array of available merchandise and after being sold at Disney Stores for about a month, the goods have finally made their way to World of Disney in Downtown Disney.
There are several shirts available for adults as well as children. I particularly like the art on the first shirt shown here.

There are even two face masks themed to the film, one depicting Joe Gardner playing piano, and the other shows Mr. Mittens the cat in Soul World.

Here, you can see what the two face masks look like inside their packaging.

The plush toys made for this movie are a joy to look at. The designs mirror the actual characters well. Plus, the Joe Gardner plush speaks one of several phrases from the film when you squeeze the button on his hand. And if you don’t mind my saying so, the Mr. Mittens plush is luxuriously soft.

Smaller plushes include mini bean bag versions of Joe Gardner (Soul World version), 22, and Mr. Mittens (Soul World version).

There are also figures available. This set of figures includes 12 different miniaturized versions of Soul’s many characters. There is also this Funko POP! figure of Mr. Mittens (Soul World version). I think the dead eyes typical of the POP! line actually work well for this character.

There is also this figural mug of Mr. Mittens in his Soul World form. I appreciate that the mug is dishwasher and microwave safe, since many mugs sold by Disney won’t hold up.

We’ll end this section with this musical ornament. Depicting Joe playing piano with Mr. Mittens watching from above, this freestanding piece could function as desk decor when not hung on a tree. And pressing the button on the base will cause music from Soul to play.

Odds and Ends
We already saw a tumbler in the 2021 merchandise collection but there are actually several other new styles available as well (and these have little charms on the straws for some added flair). We spotted a Mickey Balloon tumbler with a ballon charm on the straw along with a sketchy Mickey Mouse one and FastPass one. The latter two had Mouse Ear charms on their straws.

A merchandise update isn’t complete without a Spirit Jersey of some variety and this time we have two. They are both themed to different locales in the Star Wars universe, specifically Cloud City and Endor.

The Disney Dress Shop recently released a new dress and matching purse, both inspired by Captain America. Interestingly, the purses sold to match the dresses are typically made by Loungefly but this one is by Danielle Nicole Handbags.

These much sought-after Funko POP! set containing figures Walt Disney and Sleeping Beauty Castle were initially available at an earlier Downtown Disney shopping event. They eventually made their way to the Disney Backlot Premier Shop earlier this week. Were you able to snag one?

Christmas Closure!
In yesterday’s Disneyland Update, we mentioned that Downtown Disney will be closed on Christmas Day this year. It’s a notable change from previous years, and it’s the first time in decades that the resort will be closed on Christmas. But the closure means that Cast Members can spend a well-deserved holiday with their family— something most can’t do in a normal year.
