Pixar Fest 2020: Toys, Clothes & Watch-Alongs!

It’s been 25 years since Pixar’s Toy Story hit theaters and animation hasn’t been the same since. A milestone like that is definitely one to celebrate, and Disney plans to do just that with Pixar Fest 2020 starting September 5. Highlights for this month-long party are a Disney+ Watch-Along, weekly activities, recipes, and merchandise! Let’s take a closer look at the celebrations ahead with Pixar Fest 2020. . .

Pixar Fest Festivities

Although this year has been upended for Disney/Pixar fans by the shutdown of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, there are still ways to give your favorite Pixar characters some love. Here’s a roundup of what you can do during the month-long celebration of Pixar Fest.

Watch-Along

Wondering what films are included in this Watch-Along? Well, we’ve got the schedule right here! I don’t know about you but I am a big fan of Up. The Watch-Along is only available on Disney+. Personally, I’m a little surprised that Disney didn’t include any of the Watch-Along on any of their myriad of television channels. But with Disney+’s number of subscribers skyrocketing above projections, I guess it isn’t all that bad. 

Get a Taste of the Recipes

It’s not a party without delectable treats and snacks. For Pixar Fest, Disney is sharing some Pixar-inspired recipes that are perfect for a movie night in. Here’s a look at two of the recipes created for Pixar Fest 2020.

And to make sure you’re dressed and prepped for Pixar Fest, there is a whole array of Pixar-themed merchandise available. So if you’re looking for some decor, a few new toys, or something to wear, there’s something for everyone.

Apparel

Woody Spirit Jersey for Adults ($64.99)

It’s not a celebration these days without a Spirit Jersey to mark to the occasion, right? The torso on this Woody Spirit Jersey for Adults mimics the appearance of Woody’s denim pants while the sleeves look like his kerchief and shirt. The front even has his Sheriff’s badge. The back bares the greeting, “Howdy Partner.”

Buzz Lightyear Spirit Jersey for Adults ($64.99)

And you can’t have Woody without Buzz Lightyear, so it follows that there would be a companion Spirit Jersey to the Woody one. Like the Spirit Jersey we just saw, this garment imitates the character’s appearance. The sleeves have the same markings as Buzz’s wings with the ribbing on the collar and sleeves representing his bracers and chest plate. Of course, that “Space Ranger” label is easily seen across the front, along with the tag “Lightyear.” The back reads “To Infinity and Beyond.”

Boys get this charming camp shirt (there is also a similar one for adults). The print stars some of our favorite Pixar pals.

Girls can outfit themselves in this tee with an all-over print similar to the one found on the boy’s shirt. The hem is made to be tied-up, adding an edge of fashion to the garment.

This heather grey hoodie may look slightly plain but the embroidered Pixar friends infuse a dash of character. And can I just say I love the detail of Russell floating with the bunch of balloons by the kangaroo pocket?

This cap would pair perfectly with the World of Pixar Hoodie. This all-cotton hat has a distressed look with characters embroidered, not just on the front, but all around it.

This crossbody purse has several of our insect friends from A Bug’s Life, including my boy, Heimlich. In fact, it looks like that very hungry caterpillar has taken a bite or two out of the purse!

This delightfully colorful mini backpack is full of beloved characters from the film, Coco. You’ll spot Miguel, Mama Imelda, Pepita (isn’t she gorgeous?), and Ernesto de la Cruz plus the magical guitar that started Miguel’s journey. I must say, this one is truly lovely.

Wilderness Explorer Mini Slouch Backpack by Loungefly ($44.90)

The wilderness must be explored! The look on this mini backpack is inspired by Russell from Up. The color scheme matches his Wilderness Explorer uniform, complete with logo and merit badges. They even included the Ellie Badge that Carl gave Russell at the end of the movie. Unlike most of the mini backpacks we have seen from Loungefly, this one is made in a “slouch” style, with drawstring closure in the main compartment. The front pocket also closes snaps instead of the typical zippers.

These wired headphones are designed with kids in mind. Both have a “volume limiting” switch that prevents the sound from reaching a volume that could damage hearing. They come in a Forky or Bo Peep design.

Grape Soda Pop Socket ($15)

Now here is an idea that is pure genius. For many people, Pop Sockets are a newfound necessity and I would be hard-pressed to think of a Disney or Pixar design that lends itself better to the Pop Socket than the Ellie Badge. (The Disney/Pixar Pop Sockets available are rather impressive in general.)

Toy Story Alien Remix Pen Set ($9.99)

Part of the Toy Story Alien Pixar Remix Collection, the pens in this set have little green men floating in them. But wait! These three-eyed fellows are cosplaying as other iconic Pixar characters; you can find them in the upper parts of the pens. Each of the four pens also has a different phrase or graphic on the grip. Which is your favorite? I think mine is the “Pizza Planet” one.

Toys

Can you really ever have enough toys? I may be a little biased in my answer, but I say no! Here’s some of the new merch just in time for Pixar Fest.

Soul Basic Plush Assortment by Mattel ($9.99 each)

If Pixar’s Soul isn’t on your radar, it should be. And with the movie’s November 20 release edging closer, merchandise is finally starting to crop up. Here we see some of the plushes Mattel has crafted for the movie. From left to right: Joe Gardner (soul form), 22, Mr. Mittens (soul form), and Mr. Mittens in his more corruptible mortal state. Don’t they look positively adorable? I think I need that Mr. Mittens in my life.

Cars Stunt and Splash Red with Exclusive Color Change Lightning McQueen by Mattel ($24.99)

It is still hot out and even our toys are feeling it. But luckily, this Cars play set allows for a little bit of water play without the need for a pool or even a backyard (admittedly, it is more about getting water on the toys and not you or your kids). You can use Red the firetruck as as ramp for Lightning McQueen. And if Lightning doesn’t clear the “ring of fire” and ends up in the water tank instead (which looks, unfortunately, like a dumpster fire), he’ll turn blue. But a quick splash from Red’s hose will restore him to his original coloring.

RC Wall-E by Mattel ($49.99)

Who hasn’t wanted their own Wall-E? This remote-controlled toy measures 9.5 inches tall with a film-accurate design. Beyond moving via remote control, pressing the button of the front of the little guy will yield one of 20 different light and sound combos.

Books

For those looking for something a little more behind-the-scenes or perhaps a shorter retelling of a favorite Pixar film, Disney’s got you covered.

The Art of Pixar ($60)

This is a revised and expanded version of the previously released book. Within its pages, you’ll find different Pixar colorscripts, which are “the sequential paintings that visually represent key story moments from each film and set the lighting, color, and tone during the filmmaking process.” Readers can now look forward to content including the newer Pixar shorts, Onward, and Soul.

Find Your Spark ($14.95)

Journaling can be an especially good way to cope with life’s challenges. This journal is filled with prompts to guide writers and help them be more mindful about the small, special moments that take place in our everyday lives. And since it’s inspired by Soul, writers will also spot unique art and quotes within the book’s pages.

Soul Little Golden Book ($4.99)

I grew up on Little Golden Books and I would wager that I am not the only one. The illustrations were always beautiful and the stories entertained me. So I am happy to see Soul get the “Golden Book Treatment.” From what I have seen in trailers, the film has a gorgeous art style and an intriguing premise. And while the target audience for the book is 2 to 5 years old, I am certain more more than a few adult Pixar fans will end up with this in their library.
