Disney Merchandise Guide for Virtual Comic-Con Today!

For the first (and hopefully only) time, San Diego Comic-Con is taking a digital form as the packed San Diego Convention Center just wouldn’t be safe this year.  We recently gave you an overview of how the Comic-Con@Home event will work and some key panels Disney fans might be interested in, so today let’s focus on the Disney-related merchandise available for purchase online from the event. Some of the items available were intended to be sold exclusively at SDCC, others were to make their debut at the con, while some are simply older merchandise sold at a discount. And because the con has made the move online, anyone can purchase these goodies – no badge needed!

Some of the vendors showcased (presented in alphabetical order) below have more Disney merchandise than others. I am only including two items from each one but I encourage you to look into the vendor’s whole collection, which I will provide links for if the merchandise appeals to you. Note that many items sold out almost immediately, and others had limited quantity at the time of writing. Now, on with the show . . .

Nightmare Before Christmas- SDCC Deluxe Action Figure Set ($120; limited to 3,000 pieces)

I don’t know about you, but I often find myself taking the toys out of their boxes to explore their features. This figure set takes care of that desire because the box for this set has a working black light, allowing you to enjoy the glow-in-the-dark elements without removing pieces from the box. Included in this set is Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie, Santa Claus, and Zero, all with a themed backdrop.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian – The Child in Chair Premier Collection Statue ($225, limited to 3,000 pieces)

This is one is actually a pre-order for a figure that is scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of 2020. It is a 1:2 scale figure of The Mandalorian’s The Child (yes, Baby Yoda), which measures 12 inches tall. The Child will come packaged in a full-color box and a numbered certificate of authenticity. While this is one of the better sculpts of the Child I have seen, I feel like this is more chair than Child.

Funko

Funko POP! The Emperor’s New Groove Yzma Cat Figure ($15)

I am an enormous fan of The Emperor’s New Groove and I love that Funko chose this obscure character to immortalize. The villainess Yzma as a cat was one of the funniest parts of the film in my mind (which really says something). They even included the potion vial! I am so sad I couldn’t score one of these figures for myself before it sold out. If you managed to get one, congratulations!

Funko POP! Alien Remix Kevin Figure ($15)

I love me a good a cosplay and this Toy Story Alien looks positively fabulous in this costume fashioned after Kevin from Up. The humor of this piece is just fantastic.

Kotobukiya

Black Widow ArtFX Premier Statue ($174.99 $122.99)

Unlike the merchandise I’ve shown you so far, this figure is not new nor is it exclusive to SDCC. However, it is at a discounted price. The Black Widow ArtFX Premier Statue is part of Kotobukiya’s “Women of Marvel” line. And although it is only 3.5 centimeters in size, the statue has a lot of fine details. Besides all the textures on Black Widow’s outfit and weapons, a particularly interesting detail can be found on the base. The “puddles” reflect her face as if they were actually wet.

Iron Man ArtFX Premier Statue ($139.99 $98.99)

Like Black Widow, the Iron Man ArtFX Premier Statue is not new but discounted for the con. The statue is 1/10-scale and painted to make every panel of Iron Man’s suit stand out. The base is fashioned after a rock formation, as though the hero is racing past it on the way to a mission.

Alien Remix Figures ($5.99 each)

Like the Funko POP! figure shown earlier, these are Toy Story Aliens cosplaying as other Pixar characters. But unlike the Funko one, the majority of these figures are still in stock! I appreciate that the Aliens aren’t just dressed as the other characters but some also change their facial expressions to match (see Sulley, for example). Which one is your favorite?

Hot Wheels Star Wars X-Wing Dagobah Starship ($25)

In celebration of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’s 40th anniversary, Mattel created this special Hot Wheels vehicle. The X-Wing is covered in swamp vines like it was after Luke crashing into the swamp on Dagobah in search of Yoda. A special lever on the packaging lets you lift the ship from the “swamp” in the box’s diorama, recreating the scene from the film.

Sideshow Collectibles

Peter Parker (Spider-Man) Egg Attack Action Figure ($80)

If I had to sum up this figure in one word, it would be “interchangeable.” This figure comes with so many different, swappable options for Spidey’s head (two pieces), eyes (four pairs), and hands (four pairs). And that isn’t even counting his seven accessories! One of them is a pizza and for some reason, that makes me extremely happy.

Spider-Man (Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit) Sixth Scale Figure ($265)

This 30-centimeter tall action figure has over 30 points of articulation, allowing for a ton of posing options. I also find it interesting that, in the photos, at least, it is difficult to even pick out where most of those articulation points are. Based on the suit worn by Miguel O’Hara in Spider-Man 2099, the figure features a black and red color scheme with metallic accents. And like the other Spider-Man figure sold at Sideshow, this comes with several accessories. Although, they are not as interesting as the previous ones.

Marvel Universe Variant Bring Arts Captain America Figure Designed by Tetsuya Nomura ($134.99)

Both Captain America here and Iron Man (coming up next) are designed by Tetsuya Nomura, a famed artist and character designer whose work can be seen in the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. This posable action figure is his take on Captain America. He comes with his trusty shield in two color variants, traditional and gold. Cap is able to attach the shields to his arms or mounted on his back and hip. I have always loved Tetsuya Nomura’s art style and really dig a fresh spin on the character. This figure is available for pre-order and will ship in December 2020.

Marvel Universe Variant Iron Man Figure Designed by Tetsuya Nomura ($134.99)

Another great Marvel reinvention by Tetsuya Nomura. The unique concept of a backpack, which can take either a blade or shield form, is ingenious. And for those that prefer a simpler look, the backpack is removable. Like Captain America, this posable action figure is now on pre-order and will ship December 2020.

Toynk Toys

Did you know that School House Rock is available for viewing on Disney+? Well, now you do! And that earns this pin set a place in this post.  The set includes pins of both Bill and Law. With the election coming up, I think this piece of merchandise is particularly timely.

The Mandalorian 3D Mythosaur Skull Collector Pin ($14.99)

We see a lot (read: a ton) of merchandise of Baby Yoda but it is rare to find any for Boba Fett, represented here by the Mythosaur skull. And as cute as the Child is, it is nice for other characters to get their share of the limelight every once in a while. The pin’s sculpt is certainly impressive.
