Here’s What Disney Fans Want to Know About Virtual San Diego Comic-Con

The debut of Comic-Con@Home 2020 premiers this week and Disney Television Studios and Marvel Comics will be there! Due to health concerns from the global pandemic, this will be a very different year for the annual celebration. San Diego Comic-Con is giving everyone free access to all the panels and other events – from the comfort of home!

Disney has set its panel lineup for Comic-Con@Home that we’re sure you’ll enjoy, which will include veteran animated shows Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, and The Simpsons as well as first looks for newcomers NeXt and Hoops.

Accessing Panels and Other Special Events Online

For those of you who want to watch Disney’s panels and some of the event’s other offerings, Comic-Con@Home 2020 will also feature over 350 separate panels spread out over all five days of the event. Here’s how it will work:

1. You can now peruse through the schedule of panels in our list below and read the panel descriptions to decide what you’d like to see. If you want to watch a panel, click on the title of the panel and a new window will open. You can also visit San Diego Comic-Con’s event schedule to get information on all 350 panels.
2. The majority of the panels will also be available after the July 22-26 dates; however, some panels may have a limited time period attached to them and may not be available after a certain date.
3. Each panel will contain a link that, once clicked, will launch another page that has the panel video embedded in it. The video will be available on the date and time listed.
4. When it’s available, simply push play and watch. It’s that simple!

Most panels will also be available on Comic-Con’s YouTube channel, so you will also be able to access them there too.

Comic-Con@Home Online Exhibit Hall

On Wednesday, July 22, San Diego Comic-Con will open an interactive online exhibit hall at www.comic-con.org. To see who’s exhibiting, move your cursor over a booth or table on the Comic-Con@Home online map and a pop-up will appear with an exhibitor’s name. (Please note: Not all exhibitors that were confirmed for Comic-Con 2020 opted to participate in Comic-Con@Home 2020.)

If you want more information on an exhibitor or want to see what they are offering for Comic-Con@Home, click on the booth or table and a pop-up will appear on the left with a synopsis of their information. You can click on “View More Company Information” to go to the exhibitor’s full profile page. You’ll find the same short company description as well as a randomly selected set of three of the exhibitor’s featured items.

Comic-Con@Home will be held on the same dates as the previously canceled Comic-Con, July 22-26, 2020, and online attendees are encouraged to use the official #ComicConAtHome hashtag to be included in virtual activities and online conversations.

A Look Inside “Marvel’s 616” on Disney+ – Thursday, July 23, 1:00 p.m.
“Marvel’s 616” explores how Marvel’s rich legacy of stories, characters and creators exist within the “world outside your window.” Each documentary, helmed by a unique filmmaker, explores the intersections of storytelling, pop culture and fandom within the Marvel Universe. Join directors Gillian Jacobs, Paul Scheer and executive producers Sarah Amos and Jason Sterman as they discuss the making of this Disney+ original anthology series with moderator Angélique Roché.

The New Mutants (just added to San Diego Comic-Con’s schedule) – Thursday, July 16, 2:00 p.m.
Writer/Director Josh Boone and the cast of Twentieth Century Studios and Marvel Entertainment’s The New Mutants, including Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga discuss the upcoming original horror-thriller moderated by Ira Madison III.

Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing – Friday, July 24, 11:00 a.m.
Join Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski as he breaks down all the latest and greatest coming from the House of Ideas with some of Marvel’s most epic creators! Tom Brevoort, Al Ewing and Dan Slott will dive into the cosmic calamity coming to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the pages of EMPYRE! An army is gathering in the latest X-Men crossover event, X OF SWORDS, and Jordan White, Tini Howard and Gerry Duggan have all the juicy details! Nick Lowe, Nick Spencer, and Mark Bagley will discuss the landmark AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #850 ushering in the return of the Green Goblin! Bob’s Burgers (Produced by 20th Century Fox Television) – Friday, July 24, 4 p.m.
The Emmy Award-winning animated FOX series “Bob’s Burgers” invites fans into their homes for a virtual panel with all of the laughs and surprises they generally bring to the Indigo Ballroom. Creator and executive producer Loren Bouchard will break news about the upcoming season, and the always entertaining cast including H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, Dan Mintz, and Larry Murphy will have you howling with laughter with never-before-seen footage, followed by a lively panel discussion and fan Q&A.

Saturday

The Simpsons (Produced by 20th Century Fox Television) – Saturday, July 25, 11 a.m.
They’ll never stop The Simpsons!…from appearing at Comic-Con; this time on zoom. Join Al Jean, Matt Selman, David Silverman, Carolyn Omine, Mike B. Anderson, and moderator Yeardley Smith. Find out how the show has surmounted social distancing and turbulent times en route to season 32!

Bless the Harts (Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment) – Saturday, July 25, noon
Join the Harts, in quarantine of course, for a Paint & Sip!  Watch Kristen Wiig (Jenny Hart), Maya Rudolph (Betty Hart), Ike Barinholtz (Wayne Edwards), Jillian Bell (Violet Hart) and Fortune Feimster (Brenda) with executive producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Andy Bobrow try to re-create Bless The Harts characters while chatting about their favorite moments from season one, what they’re looking forward to in season two on FOX this Fall and how they’ve kept busy during quarantine while drinking the show’s favorite drink – boxed wine!

Blast Off with Disney+’s “The Right Stuff” – Saturday, July 25, 1:00 p.m.
From Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, “The Right Stuff” is the first scripted Disney+ original series from National Geographic. The series takes a clear-eyed look at the early days of the US space program. Hoops (Produced by 20th Century Fox Television) – Sunday, July 26, 10 a.m.
The star-studded voice cast of “Hoops,” a new adult animated series for Netflix launching this summer from 20th Century Fox Television (“The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “Bob’s Burgers”), gathered for an irreverent-in-the-best-way conversation about coming together to make this show that follows a foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who is sure he’ll hit the big leagues if he can only turn his terrible team around. Voice stars Jake Johnson, Rob Riggle, Ron Funches, Natasha Leggero, Cleo King and A.D. Miles join creator and executive producer Ben Hoffman and moderator/ guest voice star Max Greenfield (Johnson’s former “New Girl” co-star) for a truly wild and hilarious Q&A. NeXt (Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment) – Sunday, July 26, 11 a.m.
Coming to FOX in Fall 2020, “NeXt” arrives at Comic-Con@Home with a sneak peek of the thrilling opening scene of the propulsive, fact-based thriller about the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that combines pulse-pounding action with an examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand. “NEXT” stars John Slattery (“Mad Men”) as a Silicon Valley pioneer, who teams with cybercrime agent Fernanda Andrade (“The First”), to fight a villain, unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Panelists will include creator and executive producer Manny Coto (“24”), John Slattery, Fernanda Andrade, Michael Mosley (“Ozark”), Jason Butler Harner (“Ozark”) and Eve Harlow (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) for a fascinating conversation about the new series and how AI and technology infiltrate all of our lives, moderated by Thrillist’s Esther Zuckerman.

A Conversation with Nathan Fillion – Sunday, June 26, 2 p.m.
Showrunner Alexi Hawley (“The Rookie”) talks with Nathan Fillion (“Firefly,” “Castle,” “The Rookie”) about his career in film and television. With special appearances by Joss Whedon, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Mekia Cox, Molly Quinn, Seamus Dever, and Jon Huertas.

And on a personal note…

I’ll be moderating a panel that will be available this Thursday afternoon that fans of animation may find interesting. The panel includes Alonso Ramirez Ramos, who is notable for his work on Disney Gravity Falls as a director, writer and storyboard artist, and his work on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as a storyboard artist, as well as his work on Disney Mickey Mouse.

For those interested in breaking into the animation industry, this is a panel you don’t want to miss!

The State of the Industry: Animation Superstars, Thursday, July 23, 5:00 p.m.
ASIFA-Hollywood and some of the brightest talents in animation will assemble for a lively discussion about the inner workings of the animation biz! Moderator David Derks (vice president of ASIFA-Hollywood), Jorge Gutierrez (The Book of Life), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse), Brooke Keesling (head of animation talent development at Bento Box), Mike Hollingsworth (BoJack Horseman), and Alonso Ramirez Ramos (Disney Mickey Mouse).
