Super Siblings

News-Strip-1X4

Marvel is gearing up the promotional machines for the upcoming (and hugely profitable, if it follows the pattern set by its predecessors) Avengers: Age of Ultron. They sent me this featurette, “Meet Quicksilver & The Scarlet Witch”. They’re siblings, but they’re famous (infamous?) papa isn’t allowed to be named, at least not in the MCU. Wonder if writer Joss Whedon had changed their backstory?

The film opens May 1, and you can get tickets at fandango.com/avengers.

Justin Kerprank Gets His Own Show!

freakout

Okay, not really. But his spirit lives beyond Gravity Falls in the ABC Family show “Freak Out”. Horrible and mean pranks are played on innocent folks, and it’s shamefully hilarious. Shamefully. I’m completely ashamed of myself. Sort of. It airs April 1st, when else, at 8:30PM on ABC Family.

Stunts include:
“…a woman who gets easily spooked finds herself in the middle of a nightmare when a spirit board starts answering questions about her-by itself, a man gets roped into volunteering at a gala party, but is shocked when he’s blamed for a chandelier crashing onto another volunteer-chopping the man’s arm off and finally, two friends hire a car service to take them to a party. On the way there, the driver detours to an auto garage, where a crime lord holds everyone hostage.”

I’d love to see a post-show, a la The Talking Dead, that really delves into how they do the really amazing special effects. You can’t do camera tricks live, and Disney still has the some of the best magic-makers in the business.

Destination: Orlando

033115-D23-Strip

D23, the Official Disney Fan Club, will be showing its East Coast members a lot of love over the next few months. Frankly, I’m jelly of all you lucky Orlando peeps.

  • Saturday, April 18: Waking up with Sleeping Beauty – Gold and Silver D23 members will get to see the Walt Disney Classic Sleeping Beauty and learn more about the unique and beautiful style of the film from animator and Walt Disney World Creative Designer Lon Smart. All members in attendance will receive a journal that looks like the storybook at the beginning of the film. At the AMC 24 Downtown Disney.
  • TWO Mickey’s of Glendale (The Imagineer’s shop) pop-up stores, June 6 and November 14 (both Saturdays) the first will feature all sorts of Imagineering goodies for gold and silver members; the second will add some magical holiday gifts for purchase.
  • Also on June 6th, at the AMC 24 Downtown Disney, D23 will salute The Parent Trap with a showing of the film, a presentation of rare photos and stories from the filming by D23’s Steven Vagnini, a special (secret as of this posting) gift AND priority entrance into the Mickey’s of Glendale open house.
  • Back with some added “delectable” surprises is D23’s Sip and Stroll at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Attendees get continental breakfast and a great peek into the inner workings of the wildly successful annual event, then a meander around World Showcase for the above surprises.

If you aren’t a D23 member yet, you still have time. You can become a Gold Membership ($74.99), or General Member (complimentary), at DisneyStore.com/D23. It’s the closest thing we’ve got to the Magic Kingdom Club (remember those days?).
