For a resort sitting on 43 square miles, there seems to be few good reasons ever to remove anything—but especially something as popular as Muppet*Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios—but Disney did remove it to make way for the first full land dedicated to “Monsters, Inc.”
Disney is also once again navigating the slippery slope of veering away from the story fans know and love (we’re looking at you Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge). At least this time, the characters are familiar as the new land’s storyline takes place after the events of the film, when, needing human laughter to power their city, the citizens of Monstropolis celebrate H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.”
A bulletin board on display in the Imagineering Pavilion offered a look at what guests can expect in the monster-filled metropolis.
Imagineers also revealed some of the furry creatures who reside in Monstropolis.

Welcome to Monstropolis
To introduce the world of monsters, the Glob Theater will present “Welcome to Monstropolis” – a show hosted by Mike and Sulley and featuring lots of familiar faces – to showcase the city.
The show also features a new song written by Randy Newman, the first time the Disney Legend has written a song specifically for a theme park attraction.
Monsters Inc. Door Coaster
Monstropolis will feature the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park and the first-ever vertical lift, which will raise riders up 40 feet before launching into the door vault, just like Mike and Sulley did in the first movie.
Disney offered a sneak peek at the ride’s load area last year.
Dining and Shopping
Dining includes the quick-service restaurant, Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, which invites diners to experience college life at Monsters University; the Alumni Club celebrates top scarers, student clubs, and familiar sororities and fraternities from the film “Monsters University.”
Guests will also be able to dine at Harryhausen’s, the Monstropolis sushi hot spot where Mike took his girlfriend Celia in the first movie., The table service restaurant will also feature a sushi chef Audio-Animatronics figure hard at work.

Timeline
The theater show, two dining experiences, and the merchandise shop will all open in 2027. The coaster will open at a later date.
But construction is definitely underway!
