Disney Lorcana by Ravensburger is celebrating its 2nd anniversary this year at GenCon, the largest tabletop gaming convention in the world. GenCon was also where Disney Lorcana made its first public appearance in August 2023. Disney’s trading card game (TCG) was highly anticipated then and still is today!
A mere 24 months of existence may seem small, but relatively speaking, Disney Lorcana has grown and grown with each expansion of the game. Each of the eight sets, released quarterly, has increased the game’s creativity, Disney lore, and global reach. There are now more than 1800 cards unique in their characters, abilities, and style. Now with Fabled’s release, Disney Lorcana TCG by Ravensburger will be sold & played in 5 of the 6 populated continents on Earth! Unfortunately, the penguins in Antarctica will have to go on quite a march to make it to the next Lorcana tournament.
A Legendary Lorcana Celebration
We just got our first look at Fabled, the ninth set of Disney Lorcana, from Ravensburger this morning on the streaming stage at GenCon. This set releases in game stores on August 29th and worldwide on September 5th with brand new card rarities. New Disney franchises are coming to Lorcana, and most importantly, it ushers in the first rotation of cards to Disney Lorcana TCG. Card rotation means that certain older cards are no longer permitted in competitive play for Disney Lorcana. Any cards from sets one through four are no longer legal in competitive Lorcana tournaments, unless that card is reprinted as part of set nine.
171 cards are graduating from sets one through four and being reprinted as part of set 9, “Fabled.” This rotation has a potentially Maleficent Dragon-sized impact on the competitive circuit. But casual players have nothing to worry about as you can use all your cards in any way you want – the restriction on cards is just for tournament play, not for regular home gameplay.
Filling out the set are 33 new cards in Fabled, bringing the total card count for the set to the normal 204 cards. Rotation also allows the game developers to curate gameplay by choosing returning cards that focus each of the six ink’s identity and functionality within the game. This enables balanced gameplay and is a great time for new players to take the opportunity to learn the game and acquire those essential cards that are being reprinted from previous sets.
Time to Stand Out!
Fabled has the community screaming “Encore!!” because they’re bringing one of Disney Animation’s most-loved 90’s movies into Lorcana. A Goofy Movie is finally seeing “I2I” with all the other glimmers (characters) in Lorcana including the sensational character Powerline and the epic songs of the movie getting showcased too!
That ‘Stand Out! card is Epic, literally! The new set of Lorcana has two new card rarities; Iconic and Epic. These new rarity levels have special artistic and manufacturing treatments that make them unique and a spotlight for collectors. The enchanted rarity also has incredible cards like Powerline – World’s Greatest Rock Star.
All Epic, Enchanted, and Iconic cards are in addition to their regular version of the card.
Step Into The Story
The true star of Fabled isn’t a new franchise, it’s the ever-loveable Mickey and Minnie Mouse. And they are at their most magical as the first Iconic cards in Disney Lorcana.
These are the most exquisite cards Lorcana has printed in their sets with alternate artwork encompassing the entire face of the card, 3D hot stamp effects, and a custom lore star foil pattern. These two cards are also the rarest. According to Ravensburger, they are “much rarer” than the Enchanted cards (which is as astounding considering finding an Enchanted card is about 1 in 1,200 cards).
Epic cards are also a new rarity that will interest players and collectors alike. These cards feature the regular art in an ‘open air’ style (no border), with a gloss treatment on the art, holofoil icons, and a special rainbow foil treatment.
Disney traditionalists also get something to make their spirit fly! Dumbo the flying elephant is soaring into Lorcana!
It has been a long-awaited entrance for Dumbo to extend his ears over his own Lorcana card. And he is joined by his trusty flight instructor Timothy Q Mouse! All of the Disney fans that have been clamoring from the peanut gallery for Dumbo to appear in Lorcana finally get to play with their pretty pachyderm.

Fabled comes with the full product line that Ravensburger has provided for Disney Lorcana in recent sets and then some. When Set 9 Fabled is released, you will be able to purchase booster boxes, Illumineer’s Troves, single player decks, art sleeves, deck boxes, play mats, an Elsa gift set, and a new product: The Collection Starter Set.
This starter set is $29.99 and comes with a 2 x 2 card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor art, four booster packs of Fabled, a glimmer foil Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy promo card, and a guide to starting your Lorcana card collection.
A Fun Lorcana Quest at The Disneyland Resort!
Disney Lorcana is primarily played in the format Core Constructed (60 card deck composed of only 2 inks), so much so that we don’t even think about specifying what format we’re playing. But Ravensburger is introducing Inifnity format December 12-14 at game stores which allows players to compose their decks of cards regardless of the new rotation limitations. This format will also be the main event at DLC Indianapolis in June 2026. But for those who don’t want to build a deck the Sealed, Draft, and Pack Rush formats are a great way to learn the cards and plays Lorcana the forethought of deck construction or the competitive meta game.
Today Ravensburger introduces a new format that will be great for newbies, experienced players, collectors, or people who are just social butterflies! Collection Quest debuts at GenCon and gives those who participate (let’s call them Illumineers) three sealed booster packs and a Quest Sheet. This Quest Sheet has on it the names of 6 Lorcana cards from one Disney film or story. The Illumineer has to open their three boosters packs and with those 36 cards try and acquire the specific 6 cards on their Quest Sheet. It’s a very interactive challenge as there will be other Illumineers as well who are trying to complete their Quest Sheet too. So just like Judy Hopps, you have to hop-to-it and trade with other players to fill out your Quest Sheet. Once you complete your Quest Sheet you get your prize promo card! At GenCon they will receive an Anna – Ice Breaker promo cards, but Disneyland Resort guests should get excited because Collection Quest is coming to Disney’s California Adventue on Aug. 29th!
Guests can head to Beast’s Library inside of Animation Academy in DCA to participate in the Collection Quest starting on Aug. 29. And if completed they will receive a Belle – Accomplished Mystic ‘Magical Places’ promo card. This is a great way for anyone to play and interact with Lorcana. No information has been given as to any cost of playing the Collection Quest and the event will run as long as supplies last. A valid park ticket and reservation is required to be able to access this event.
A Puzzling Addition
Ravensburger brings to us something that it does best, puzzles! With the release of set nine there will the six puzzles, each inspired by one of the six ink colors from Disney Lorcana. Each puzzle has 1,000 pieces, features art from the cards of that ink, and comes with a promo card of Mickey Mouse – True Friend.
These four puzzles, Sapphire, Emerald, Amber, and Ruby, will be released at all retailers in September and the amethyst and steel puzzles will be exclusively sold at Disney stores in the United States, but in Europe all six puzzles will be sold at all retailers. Each puzzle has an MSRP of $29.99 (USD). The first to get a chance at acquiring these puzzles will be guests attending Destination D23 August 29-31 at Walt Disney World!
Here’s what you came for
Today, we first looked at what cards are reprinted in set 9 Fabled. We already knew that Winnie the Pooh – Hunny Wizard, Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy, Stitch – Rock Star, and several other cards were already on the reprint list, and now we have the Set Championship playmat of Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon. Set Champs are going to be sweaty with everyone trying to win this playmat!
Today we learned that Cursed Merfolk – Ursula‘s Handiwork, Strength Of A Raging Fire, and Sisu – Daring Visitor are all coming back as reprint in Fabled and will be promos as part of weekly play at game stores.
We also have the two new Fabled cards as the prerelease and buy a box promo!
Expect to see more reprinted cards revealed from Disney Lorcana in the coming days and weeks ahead of the Fabled release.

It’s Whispers in the Well! Disney Lorcana releases it’s 10th set on November 7 in game stores and at all stores on November 14. ‘Whispers in the Well’ starts a new mystery in Lorcana with these new character types, Whispers. I think we’ll need some help solving the mystery of these ‘Whispers’…
A Flatfoot to Hop-to-it
Ravensburger introduces another hit Disney movie with Whispers in the Well as Zootopia bunny-hops into Lorcana. Your favorite detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wylde will ‘Light the path’ to discover what is going on in Lorcana in the set 10 storyline. They reinvigorate the dormant character type Detective and are joined with another Disney IP new to Lorcana for set 10. Check out these cards, booster packs, and Starter Decks coming with Whispers In The Well!
Yes, that’s Gargoyles! All of us grown up kids who watched The Disney Afternoon cartoons are having our nostalgia fed with Gargoyles coming to Lorcana! Also coming in Set 10 is the Black Cauldron property! And we know that Darkwing Duck is coming to Lorcana sometime in 2026 too!
Flurries of Fun!
We got our first snapshot of Disney Lorcana’s 11th set! Coming in quarter one of 2026 is Winterspell!
Get ready to chill out for the coolest adventure to storm into Lorcana! Seeing Stitch and Angel as the herald characters for the marketing images is so exciting! What could be more fun than a couple of furry little aliens having a snowball fight? And today game developers said that “we have worked hard to improve the limited game play experience and you’ll notice the difference when you rip open the packs for Sealed, Draft, and even Pack Rush.” That is quite an intriguing statement and we’ll have to stay turned to see wha that means for Winterspell!
But for now, take a look back at the image of Stitch and Angel, there is so much there: the Illuminary floating in the background, the snow-laden tropical trees, the shell nose on the snowman, and the snow that Stitch is surfing on looks as if it’s a frozen wave. One might guess that there’s a tropical land under that snow…maybe we’ll find out about that in the second quarter of 2026. Something tells me we’ll find some new characters there that will “Reach for the sky!” And if that wasn’t a big enough hint, don’t worry, you won’t have to go to Infinity and beyond to figure it out…
Time to Compete
Competitive players are happy to see that the Disney Lorcana Challenge (DLC) Season 2 has finally been announced. However, fewer dates and restrictive locations have left the community feeling more like Lucifer than Pluto.
For example, North America had six DLCs last season, spread across the continent from Toronto to Atlanta, Seattle to Las Vegas. But this season, there are only three DLCs, and they are in Wisconsin, Virginia, and Indiana. Which is great…if you live in Ohio and have only a long car ride or a one-hour flight to each city. But for anyone in the western two-thirds of the United States, it is not ideal. And especially for those on the West Coast, where the 2,000+ mile trek to any of these locations is probably a non-starter.
Ravensburger has responded by introducing a new way to qualify for continental championships in addition to the official DLCs. The Challenge Championship Qualifier program will enable third-party tournament organizers to award a qualifying seat to a Continental Challenge Championship. This program is an early development and there are only 24 qualifying seats available to be distributed to third-party tournaments. No Challenge Championship Qualifiers (CCQ) have been announced in North America yet but be on the lookout as this is ever-developing. While this program may inspire competitive players, they will need to bring their “A-game” as only the winner of the tournament will receive that qualifying prize. Ravensburger has said that these CCQs will also be provided with DLC promo cards for use as prizes, but has not specified how many per tournament. One would hope that, to appease the community, there would be an abundance of promos at each of these CCQs.
