Before the celebration began, we shared the full foodie lineup, which pays tribute to Disneyland’s history and features nostalgic novelties. Now, we’re taking you back in time for a special look at the inspiration for these vintage-themed menu items. Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Menus: Inspired By Disneyland History (NEW)

Eats & Treats Inspired By Walt Disney

It’s only fitting that we start with menu items paying homage to some of Walt Disney’s favorite things, like chili, pie, and the mouse who started it all! 

Mickey Hat Cookie

This Mickey Hat Cookie may be new, but its inspiration is anything but. Drawing from the beloved Mickey Mouse Club TV series, it features the iconic ear hat from 1955. Available at Jolly Holiday Bakery Café and Market House in Disneyland Park, this nostalgic treat boasts a chocolate-dipped cookie topped with a chocolate decoration.

Chili Cheese Corn Dog  

It’s no secret that Walt Disney was a fan of chili. You can even find a couple of his personal recipes in the Walt Disney Archives (including the one below from 1958). If you’re a fan too, be sure to check out the Chili Cheese Corn Dog at Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure Park. This vintage-inspired offering features a classic corn dog topped with chili, shredded cheddar, and corn chips.

W.E.D. Chili Cheese Baked Potato  

Walt Disney was a Midwestern boy who appreciated simple, hearty dishes and comfort food. This chili cheese baked potato, named after WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering), is topped with beef and bean chili, cheese, sour cream, diced onions, and cornbread. You can find it at Troubadour Tavern in Disneyland Park.

Lemon Chiffon Pretzel  

Pie was one of Walt Disney’s favorite desserts, and he was particularly fond of lemon chiffon with a graham cracker crust. Enter the Lemon Chiffon Pretzel, available at the Pretzels near Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, filled with cream cheese, dipped in lemon-flavored icing, and topped with crushed vanilla wafers.

Eats & Treats Inspired By Casa de Fritos 

Once upon a time, Frontierland’s Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante was home to Casa de Fritos, the birthplace of Doritos. In honor of this iconic location and its history, Disneyland is serving up a few new twists on Casa de Fritos classics.

Fried Tamale Walking Taco  

This festive dish combines two Casa de Fritos favorites – the Ta-cup (an open-faced taco in a fried corn tortilla) and the Frito Chili Pie. Head to Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurante in Disneyland Park to indulge in this fried beef tamale with chili, corn chips, diced onions, cilantro, shredded cheese, and sour cream. Yummy!

Mocha Cream Puff  

Finish it off with a cream puff filled with cinnamon-mocha pastry cream and topped with chocolate-covered corn chips for dessert. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and savory! This treat is also available at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante.

Eats & Treats Inspired By Tahitian Terrace  

Tahitian Terrace debuted in Adventureland in 1962, complete with live entertainment and a South Seas-inspired menu. For Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary, Carnation Café and Bengal Barbecue are paying tribute to the nostalgic location with special menu items.

Tropical Rum Cocktail  

Enjoy a classic tropical drink made with Bacardi Superior Rum, Myers’s Rum Original Dark, pineapple, orange, and lime juices, and grenadine at Carnation Café in Disneyland Park. Its flavors will send you into full vacay mode!

Grilled Tahitian Ribs

For a main entree, check out the ribs served with white rice and pineapple slaw based on a similar dish from Tahitian Terrace’s original menu. You’ll find it at Bengal Barbecue in Disneyland Park.

Eats & Treats Inspired By Carnation

Carnation Ice Cream Parlor opened alongside Disneyland on July 17, 1955, boasting an ice cream counter on Main Street, U.S.A. I used to love grabbing a sweet treat at this nostalgic spot! Let’s take a look at some menu items paying homage to Carnation.

Beef Stroganoff

Did you ever get to enjoy the Beef Stroganoff on Carnation Café’s menu in the 1990s? If not, the next best thing is Disneyland’s new version, featuring braised beef, bacon, onions, and mushrooms over egg noodles. Give it a try at Carnation Café in Disneyland Park!

Banana Split  

For dessert, take a trip back in time with the classic banana split at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor in Disneyland Park. This treat closely resembles the fan-favorite Victorian Banana Split from Carnation Ice Cream Parlor, which first debuted in 1955.

Banana Split Churro  

If you’re looking for something different, head over to the Churros near Goofy’s Sky School in Disney California Adventure Park for a unique twist on the Victorian Banana Split. Enjoy a classic churro rolled in cocoa powder, drizzled with banana and strawberry sauces, and finished with whipped topping, crushed peanuts, and a cherry.

Eats & Treats Inspired By 1955  

Here are some mid-century recipes recreated by Disney chefs in tribute to Disneyland’s first summer.

Hook’s Galley Tuna Melt  

Inspired by the tuna sandwiches once served at Fantasyland’s Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant (later known as Captain Hook’s Galley) in 1955, Disneyland is offering a modern version featuring fresh tuna salad, topped with Muenster cheese and herb-marinated tomatoes, served with house-made chips. Pick it up at Red Rose Taverne in Disneyland Park.

Apple Pancake Rolls  

In 1955, pancake roll-ups were all the rage at Frontierland’s former Pancake House. Disneyland’s new 70th Anniversary Apple Pancake Rolls are nearly double the size of those served back in the day! Featuring apple pie topping, walnut streusel, and cinnamon Chantilly cream, served with your choice of bacon or sausage, they make for a hearty treat! Indulge in this new offering at River Belle Terrace in Disneyland Park.

Eats & Treats Inspired By Past Decades

To close out this retro menu journey, let’s dig into the new Disneyland 70th Anniversary dishes inspired by flavors of the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s.

Dancing Shimmering Lights

This bright blue beverage draws inspiration from Videopolis, the high-energy dance venue in Disneyland’s Fantasyland during the 1980s and ’90s. Refresh yourself with a sweet berry lemonade, with blackberry topper, and colorful sanding sugar, available at Troubadour Tavern in Disneyland Park.

Space Place Cottage Fries   

From 1977 to 1996, guests could enjoy cottage fries at The Space Place Restaurant in Tomorrowland. Now, for Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary, they’re making a comeback, this time as an entrée at Galactic Grill in Disneyland Park.

Cowboy Fries  

From the 1980s through the early 2000s, Frontierland restaurants served up classic hamburgers, so Disneyland is tipping its hat to the fan-favorite French fry style. The Cowboy Fries come loaded with nacho cheese, sautéed ground beef, burger sauce, and butter pickles. Giddy up to The Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland Park to enjoy a hearty helping.
