Step into a festive wonderland on Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats, a charming but often overlooked attraction that transforms during the holidays into a miniature marvel of seasonal splendor. In today’s MiceShots column, we’re embarking on a photo journey to explore this enchanting ride, now adorned with Christmas trees, wreaths, and a sprinkle of holiday magic.
Only a few months ago, we floated through these miniature scenes, but they’ve since been given a merry makeover. So join us as we navigate the twinkling, festive waters and peek into the holiday-adorned homes of Disney’s most beloved storybook characters. It’s a small-scale celebration you won’t want to miss!
Disneyland’s Storybook Land
All aboard as we pass through the jaws of Monstro the whale. Although the tales remain the same throughout the day, the ambiance changes magically at night. If you time your journey just right, you might catch the dazzling spectacle of fireworks illuminating the Storybook Land skyline!
Step Aboard Storybook Land Holiday
Storybook Land is an original attraction located at the East entrance of Fantasyland in Disneyland. It has gone through several changes over the years, not only in the attraction itself but also in the surrounding landscape. The ride was built to a 1-inch to 1-foot scale and initially opened in July 1955 as “Canal Boats of the World.” However, it looked quite different from how it appears today as the buildings and landscapes weren’t added until the following year. The attraction reopened in 1956 under its current name.
After traveling through Monstro, we find ourselves entering the land decorated for the holidays.
Most of the homes are decorated with wreaths, holly, poinsettias, and adorned with red ribbon.
You can see that so much care and effort are put into manicuring the land. I could only imagine the patience it takes to get the look just right.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’ cottage is beautifully and meticulously decorated with ribbons and even a little Christmas Tree in the front.
The London park where the story of Peter Pan takes place is decorated with wreaths on the lamp post. If you look close enough, you can see the little gingerbread men in the wreaths.
Toad Hall looks festive. Just imagine if they decorated all of Fantasyland like this?!
I just love this view of Pinocchio’s village with the Matterhorn in the background. That’s Geppetto’s Toy Shop in the foreground.
Arendelle always looks ready for the holidays.
The end of the tour takes us past Prince Eric’s castle from The Little Mermaid.
