Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party started this week at the Magic Kingdom, and I got to take my son Johnny to his first after-hours holiday party! Let’s check out what the Christmas Party has to offer and a look at Johnny’s favorite elements. 

Entering Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 

Even though the party officially begins at 7:00pm, you can enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00pm. We arrived just before 5:00pm and missed most of the crowds for the early rush.

The partygoers enter to the right of the train station and are sent backstage towards Tomorrowland, and you can pick up your gift, a cute toy soldier ornament.

Once we entered the park, we ran over to the Emporium to check out the party-specific merchandise. 

NEW SHOW: Frozen Holiday Surprise

We headed over to the castle to watch the Frozen Holiday Surprise, a new show that runs nightly during the holidays, and a second show during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. It was great being able to see it pre-party, which opened up more time during the party to focus on other party events.

Special Attraction Overlays

During Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Space Mountain is transformed with Christmas Music and lights on the ride. While Johnny loved the ride, it was close to riding with the light on. I missed the mountain being lit up in Christmas lights.

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor was on Johnny’s must-do list. He loves to submit jokes, and while he didn’t get his joke read, it was still fun. He had the best time, and the Holiday overlay was cute.

We also raced through Tomorrowland Speedway, which has its traditional holiday decorations with music and lights.  

Johnny opted to skip the Mad Tea Party in favor of finding cookies as well as the Jingle Cruise overlay of the Jungle Cruise since it is available throughout the holidays, not just during the party.

Club Tinsel 

There are two dance parties, Disney Junior Jingle Jam and Club Tinsel. Johnny and I checked out Club Tinsel, on the Tomorrowland Stage. Chip and Dale came out to dance while we were there. The Disney Junior Dance Party is in Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. 

Eats & Treats Locations 

Johnny was all about the treat locations; he was excited to try all the different kinds of cookies. There are 5 different locations in the park, which can be located next to large light-up Candy Canes.

While we didn’t have any of the specialty foods offered at the party, we did pick up the Mickey Toy Soldier Popcorn Bucket. ADORABLE!

Specialty food can be found at many of the Quick Service dining options. From sweet to savory, there is something for everyone.

Character Locations 

The Character Locations are mapped out for you and signage is provided. We weren’t so lucky with meeting characters early in the evening. There are over 20 Character Locations, so you could easily spend most of the night on a character quest… but then you’d miss out on just about everything else the party has to offer.

As we finished up our treat gatherings, we happened upon Captain Jack Sparrow over in Adventureland. Johnny really enjoyed the interaction.

We also stopped to visit with Mickey Mouse in his festive attire as well as Jack Skellington and Sally at Townsquare Theater.

Jack and Sally were not signing autographs, but they were handing out signature cards.

Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration  

We caught the tale end of Mickey’s Merriest Celebration shows prior to the fireworks show.

Themed Backdrops

Throughout the park there are themed backdrop photo opportunities. We stopped at the Stich location in Tomorrowland and another in Adventureland featuring Orange Bird and the Enchanted Tiki Room birds.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show 

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show has wonderful holiday projections to Christmas music. It’s a short show, right around 12 minutes, but worth the wait.

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Parade

A holiday classic, Johnny loves seeing the Once Upon a Christmas Parade when it runs during the day, after Christmas.

 

Before the parade, PhotoPass came through with photo props.

This was the first time Johnny saw this classic parade at night, and the lights gave a whole new feel to the spectacle.We waited for the second showing at 11:00pm so we could get a better spot. Even though it was late, Johnny loved it.

Johnny and I had a great time at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. He is already working on making it an annual event for us.
