On February 8, 2001, Disney California Adventure opened its doors to Disney enthusiasts. Among the original attractions located in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot was Superstar Limo, an attraction that portrayed the rider as a Hollywood superstar fleeing from relentless paparazzi. However, in response to negative guest feedback, in part due to comparisons to the tragic death of Princess Diana, the attraction was closed in January of 2002. It was subsequently reimagined with a more family-friendly theme.
Monsters, Inc: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue
After a six-year hiatus, the show building reopened with a new attraction, “Monsters, Inc: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue.” This addition capitalized on Pixar’s popular Monsters, Inc. franchise.

Thank you for joining us on our journey through Monstropolis. This unique attraction has proven popular at Disney California Adventure, certainly moreso than Superstar Limo. But it occupies a space in the middle of a mostly dead area, which makes this a prime redevelopment area.
