In this edition of MiceShots, our hearts are with the people of Hawaii as they navigate the challenges of the recent wildfires. Instead of our usual focus on the Disneyland Resort, today we journey to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, a gem nestled in O’ahu, away from the affected areas of Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii. As we revel in the beauty of this tropical paradise, we also share opportunities for our readers to extend support to Hawaii (links provided at the article’s conclusion).

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa

At the dedication of Shanghai Disneyland, Bob Iger said the newest Disney park was “authentically Disney, distinctly Chinese.”  Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa rings the same bell, being authentically Disney, distinctly Hawaiian.

The beautiful resort is situated on the leeward side of O’ahu and opened in August 2011, with a major expansion completed in 2013. The resort is inspired by the rich traditions and natural beauty that are Hawaii. While photos don’t quite do Aulani justice— seeing it in person is even better!

If you want to go snorkeling but have a fear of the open ocean, Rainbow Reef is a beautiful alternative that will put you up close to some of the beautiful species of fish that call the reefs around the island home.

There’s no shortage of opportunities to pull out your swimsuit. With several pools, hot tubs, a water slide, and even a lazy river, you can easily spend a whole day just in the pool complex.

The Waikolohe pool has a natural feel to it with a zero-depth entry.

Nearly the entire area between the towers is a giant pool complex with lazy river, slides, pools, and kids areas.

For those little ones who just want to splash around, the Keiki Cove splash zone is a perfect place to play.

There’s even a water play park for kids to explore.

All across the resort, if you keep an eye out you may spot playful Menehune. Disney explains: “According to Hawaiian legend, the little Menehune (men-neh-HOO-nay) are shy folk who come out mostly at night. They are said to be gifted, possibly magical, craftspeople and if you come across a work-in-progress bridge or canoe (as you just might, when visiting Aulani), chances are it’s the work of the Menehune.”

Although Aulani is a Disney property, it isn’t overtly Disney-themed. Instead, you’ll find little nods to Disney IP integrated into the resort in a natural fashion. Below, you can find a statue of Stitch located along the exterior of the pool path.

As far as dining is concerned, every restaurant has a stellar view. Whether it’s a view of the ocean, the expansive koi pond, or even the gorgeous pool, you can’t go wrong.

Evenings are for relaxing and the world-famous Luau. Enjoy dinner and a show under the stars, all while learning about some beautiful Hawaiian traditions.

You can find a selection of Disney characters around Aulani. This includes your typical Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie, along with other rare characters like ‘Olu Mel (a friend of Duffy the Disney Bear).

Oh! Those breathtaking Hawaiian sunsets! If there is one time of day we can get excited about, it’s got to be the sunsets.

Hawaiian sunsets are some of the best, in my opinion. This sunset is on the Aulani Resort Beach.

If you’re looking for a little dose of Aulani at the Disney Parks, you might be able to find a pair of Minnie ears with Hawaiian flair. And of course, you can also find these at Aulani’s gift shop
