Halloween is beginning to emerge at Disney Parks, and for many, this marks the start of the season! The first official day of fall is still a month away and Halloween is over 2 months off, but some of us like to celebrate early. To get excited for the spooky season, Disney’s official fan club, D23, is offering a handful of events this year on both the East and West Coasts. Inspired by nostalgic films, there are some unique ways for fans to partake in the not-so-scary happenings come October. Let’s take a look at the lineup!
“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” Comes to Life in New York
An eerie event commences in Sleepy Hollow, New York from October 3-8, 2023. Debuting in 2019, it’s a celebration of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving. On October 5, 2023, D23 joins the celebration. Director of the Walt Disney Archives, Becky Cline, and Disney Author Tim O’Day will host a special presentation at the Sleepy Hollow International Film Festival.
In the meantime, Disney fans can enjoy the terrifying tale via The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad on Disney+ as they await more details!
Have a Ball with Hocus Pocus in Massachusetts
Hocus Pocus has become a cult classic, since its premiere in 1993. Last year, fans were treated to a long-awaited sequel, although, as per usual, it garnered mixed reviews. On October 7, 2023, Disney will be celebrating three decades of Hocus Pocus via a spooktacular event in Salem, Massachusetts.
Inspired by the Halloween party seen in the movie, the D23 Black Flame Ball offers bewitching entertainment, along with special guests. Rumor has it the Sanderson sisters will be making an appearance!
Celebrate 30 Years of The Nightmare Before Christmas in California
Speaking of anniversaries, October 13, 2023, marks 30 years of The Nightmare Before Christmas. D23 is celebrating with a special screening at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Immerse yourself in the story of Halloween Town’s master of fright with an immersive 4D experience.
There will also be some fun extras to enjoy, including a photo op and themed items available for purchase. In addition, guests will get an inside look at the creation of the film via a display highlighting original pieces used in the stop-motion animation process. If you’re a fan of this one-of-a-kind tale, celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas with D23.
Walk in the Cromwell’s footsteps With a Visit to Halloweentown in Oregon
The Spirit of Halloweentown returns to the Beaver State this year from September 16 – October 31, 2023, offering fun attractions and activities. The Disney festivities continue on October 21, 2023, with D23 presents 25 Years of Halloweentown.
Fans can immerse themselves in the story by viewing screenings near the town square in the movie’s actual filming location of St. Helens, Oregon!
While the events above may seem modest, D23 certainly offers some unique ways to celebrate the spooky season. Centered around fan-favorite films, Disney has sprinkled a little magic on both the East and West Coasts this year.
