I am Groot! If you read this week’s Disneyland Update, we shared the fun news that some very lucky Disney California Adventure guests got to preview a test of a new Groot animatronic. Today, Disneyland shared that the park is conducting play testing and some additional guests may get to see the little Flora Collasus for themselves.
Groot is an Audio-Animatronic that dances, talks, and interacts with Star-Lord and guests. During some of the play tests, Groot participated in a Guardians of the Galaxy Dance Off.
Disney shared this sneak peek announcing Groot’s playtesting:
This animatronic has been at least a couple years in the making. More about “Project Kiwi” in this two-year-old TechCrunch video below:
Because Groot is currently in a testing phase, it’s possible that guests may see him out and about in Avengers Campus, inside Disney Junior, or perhaps as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy Dance Off near the Mission Breakout tower. But there’s no guarantee that you’ll see this little fellow at all. A test often means that Disney cast aren’t allowed to give you specific information on where and when you’ll see the character. So you’ll just have to get lucky.
We sure do hope to see young Groot added to the Awesome Dance Off. That possibility has been mentioned to several guests during testing.
