The Disney Cruise Line 25th anniversary is now in full swing, and the ship that started it all — Disney Magic — has been enhanced and rethemed just in time. Now guests can experience the popular narratives of “Encanto,” “Soul” and “Moana” right onboard.
A three-week dry dock refurbishment completed in Freeport, The Bahamas brought updated venues, entertainment and the environmentally-friendly ability for the ship to “plug in,” thus reducing emissions.
For now, Disney Magic is sailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Beginning on May 24, the ship will reposition back to Miami, Florida before embarking on its maiden fall season from San Diego, California.
“An Encanto Celebration”
Fans of the family Madrigal, particularly Mirabel but less so Bruno, looking to say hello to them for a playful photo-op and more can now do so at “An Encanto Celebration” on Magic. Besides meet-and-greets, fun family activities include enchanting singalongs, butterfly and flower arts and crafts and other immersive shipboard storytelling.
Participants can wind down afterwards with Colombian beers, cocktails, sodas and mocktails from the vibrant South American country.
New Soul Cat Lounge
Just as the Promenade Lounge was converted into the French Quarter Lounge on Disney Wonder, the space on Disney Magic has now been fully rethemed to the Soul Cat Lounge inspired by the jazzy animated film “Soul.”
Reminiscent of Joe Gardner’s favorite Half Note Lounge in the movie, the Soul Cat Lounge riffs on the look of a classic New York jazz club. Exposed brick walls, wood accents and leather seating set the scene for the central stage’s live music performances calling guests to the dance floor.
Details accenting the redesigned venue include record labels, concert posters and portraits of jazz legend Dorothea Williams and her bandmates, as well as record players, instruments and even Joe’s hat and jacket hanging up on a coat rack.
Meanwhile for those looking to grab a bite or a drink before or after meals at the adjacent Rapunzel’s Royal Table restaurant, the new lounge also serves up timeless Manhattans and martinis in addition to regional New York brews and cocktails, not to mention kid-friendly mocktails, specialty coffees and other soft drinks.
Food-wise, zeppoles, a sweet Italian pastry not unlike a fried doughnut, will also be available.
Enhanced Concierge Level Amenities and Spaces
Last but certainly not least, the concierge experience has been enhanced on Disney Magic. Not only has every concierge suite, encompassing one- and two-bedroom categories as well as signature royal suites, been entirely refurbished with new fixtures, furnishings and artwork, but so too has the concierge lounge been updated and expanded.
The concierge lounge has been redesigned to take inspiration from the tropical color palate of “Moana,” and the venue has been extended outside to a bonus outdoor covered seating area on Deck 10, yet another place to enjoy tasty beverages onboard.
