Ready to hit the Pipeline? SeaWorld Orlando’s newest coaster, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster, opens May 27 and we got to preview the ride this week. Hop on board and hang ten as we take a look at this new one-of-a-kind surf coaster!

Technical Details of the Pipeline Coaster
Thrill Seekers, this coaster is for you! Pipeline: The Surf Coaster has you dropping into the waves from 110 feet in the air, carving a trail for over 2,950 feet up to 60 MPH through twists and turns, including an inversion.

In line with SeaWorlds other coasters, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster riders must be 54” tall. There is also a max height, you can be no taller than 78” to ride.

Of course, if you are going to hang ten, one of the primary tenants is standing on your surfboard. Luckily for you, the Pipeline has got you covered. The cars look like a section of a giant surfboard, with 2 across and 24 total per board. And during the ride, you aren’t not sitting, you’re standing! The seats raise and lower to the height of the rider.

Hanging Ten on Pipeline: The Surf Coaster
Lockers are located outside the ride for your belongings. Unlike the older rides, there are no bins on the coaster itself to put personal items, cell phones, sunglasses, etc. Everything you bring in the queue should fit securely in your pockets, or better yet, rent a locker to be on the safe side.

There is a tester seat outside the queue to try out. At 5’4” I had to push down the seat to be able to get into position. Once you pull down on the restraints, you feel very secure. For the duration of the ride, you are standing with a moving seat under you. You can bend your legs slightly and the seat will lower, it will also rise as you lift.

So what is it like to ride the new coaster? While the movement of the seat is minimal, it is noticeable. You may even find your feet off the surfboard in the air once or twice. The coaster is very smooth, and the drops and turns are exhilarating. It felt longer than the just-under 2 minutes that it was— in a good way. It’s definitely a ride I look forward to riding again.
