Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step into your favorite Disney animated movies? Well, now’s your chance because Lighthouse Immersive Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios have collaborated on the Immersive Disney Animation exhibition, which will premiere in Los Angeles on June 23, 2023.

The innovative Disney Animation installation has already premiered in 13 North American cities; however, the Los Angeles version housed in Lighthouse ArtSpace Los Angeles – the same Hollywood venue where Disney hosted the complimentary “Avatar: The Way of Water” exhibition for Earth Day – is touted as the “most impressive staging of the exhibition to date.”
“The rollout of Immersive Disney Animation has been met with overwhelming positivity,” said Disney Animation Special Projects Producer Dorothy McKim. “We are proud to…be presenting this spectacular exhibition in the birthplace of Disney Animation, where our studio’s first creations took shape. We can’t imagine a more fitting locale for this celebration of Disney animation, and the incredible artists and animators that bring these worlds to life.”

Favorite Disney Movies Come to Life in New Ways
Walt Disney Animation Studios partnered with North America’s top creator of experiential projection exhibitions (including The Original Immersive Van Gogh) to present some of Disney’s most beloved animated films, including “The Lion King,“ “Aladdin,” ”Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid,” ”Encanto,” “Tangled,” “Frozen 2,” and many more.

The Immersive Disney Animation team is led by Oscar-winning producer J. Miles Dale (“The Shape of Water”), who tapped into his perspective as an innovative filmmaker to engage the audience in new ways and show them something they’ve never seen before.
“Using the new technology the immersive experience offers is exciting, but it’s important that it not interfere with the emotional investment Disney fans have in the characters and storylines audiences have come to cherish,” he said. “This groundbreaking approach Lighthouse Immersive Studios has created does exactly that by giving the viewer the sensation that they are actively sharing the space with the characters they most love from the Disney Animation library. Most of our guests have seen these films multiple times, but they tell me they feel as though they are seeing them in an entirely new way, and that was always our goal.”
Capitalizing on Lighthouse Immersive’s trademark projection design, Immersive Disney Animation is enhanced by expansive environmental design, responsive floor projection design that moves with the audience, and custom bracelets that light up in sync with projections as viewers move through the galleries (included with VIP and Premium tickets).

Several show-stopping moments also employ a “Gazillion Bubbles” special effect that fills the 500,000 cubic feet of galleries with (spoiler alert) bubbles.

“Just imagine journeying through Zootopia with Judy Hopps, diving to the ocean floor with Ariel, flying on a magic carpet with Aladdin, and stepping into Casita with Mirabel and the family Madrigal,” said Lighthouse Immersive Studios Founder and Producer Corey Ross. “This is where the Immersive Disney Animation takes you.”

A Peek into the Disney Animation Process
The experience also includes the opportunity to learn how Walt Disney Animation Studios brings stories to life, including The Art of Story, which explains how animators use storyboards to map out scenes and narrative; The Art of Creating Worlds, which shows how real-world locations inspire Disney animators; and The Art of Effects, which reveals how animators create Disney magic on screen.
