With the soft opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood, we got to see everything the land offers before its official opening next month. The restaurant in Super Nintendo World is the adorable Toadstool Cafe. Operated by Chef Toad, there is an array of mushroom-themed dishes available for order. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s on the menu, how the restaurant works, and our recommendations for what to order!

What’s on the Menu at Super Nintendo World’s Toadstool Cafe

Toadstool Cafe offers a handful of items that cater to a variety of tastes. But you’ll need to like mushrooms. There are only three appetizer and entrée options without mushrooms (though you can ask for modifications on some dishes). Toadstool Cafe offers sandwiches, salads, and even spaghetti. There are desserts too of course.

How Toadstool Cafe Works
This eatery is a quick service establishment that cleverly delivers your food hot and fresh to your table. It’s a unique style of dining for Universal. After waiting in a queue, where you’ll watch Chef Toad prepare some dishes with a menu on the wall, you are guided into a register lane to order your food.

At the register, you’re asked to order your drinks first before ordering food. Although it seems weird, it makes sense in the grand scheme of things since your drinks are given to you are the register, but your food is brought directly to your table. You are given an electronic tracker along with your drinks and a restaurant host will take you to a table.

As you wait for your food, you can sit back and watch the Toads go about their daily life through the windows of the restaurant.

The whole room has a wooden hand-carved look. The central column with a Warp Pipe and Super Mushroom is a perfect centerpiece!

Place your tracker on the table and your food will come directly to you, fresh from the kitchen. We got our food remarkably quickly!

When you’re done eating, just take your tray over to a nearby trashcan which has an adorable design to it— something that will be familiar to Mario Kart players: a banana peel!

The one tricky thing about this restaurant is that its entrance does not also serve as the exit. The exit back into Super Nintendo World is a bit tucked away, just past the main entrance of the dining room. Other than that, everything else is pretty straightforward at Toadstool Cafe.
Our Recommendations at Toadstool Cafe
We tried a couple of dishes at Toadstool Cafe and enjoyed everything. We ordered the Super Star Squash drink, Cheesy Garlic Mushroom Knots, the Mario Burger, and the Fire Flower Spaghetti.

We really enjoyed the Super Star Lemon Squash. It’s slightly sweet and balanced out by the tropical popping boba flavors. If you look closely, the mango jelly is actually shaped like stars!

As far as the food goes, we thought that it was pretty good overall! The Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots were a tad tough but had a good flavor. The neat thing is that these guys and the accompanying marinara dipping sauce are made in-house!

The Fire Flower Spaghetti was quite good, but just be aware that this pasta dish has some serious heat! If you’re mushroom averse, this likely is not the dish for you. That said, we thought for theme park spaghetti, it’s actually very tasty. The fire flower parmesan crisp was a cute touch.

Our favorite item we tried was the Mario Burger with some amazing fries! The presentation is super cute with a Mario cap pin and his iconic mustache branded on the bun. It’s a classic bacon mushroom cheeseburger, though you can ask for the mushrooms to be held off. The highlight of the dish was definitely the fries, finished with a delicious umami topping.

We’re looking forward to trying more dishes at Toadstool Cafe at Super Nintendo World. The land is currently in Technical Rehearsals, meaning it may be open to guests from time to time and that some elements may not be ready for guests. The land officially opens to the public beginning February 17. For more details about Super Nintendo World, be sure to look at the article below!
