It’s been a long wait, but Disney California Adventure’s Red Car Trolley is finally set to return by this summer. One of the cars was out for an after-hours cast member celebration just the other night when we learned of plans for them to return for guest use soon. The Red Car Trolleys are modeled after the extensive Pacific Electric Railway trolleys of Los Angeles that began operating in the 1880’s and went defunct in 1961 (it’s a facinating tale).

Due to the building of Avengers Campus in front of the Trolley barn, some had speculated that the Trolley’s would not be coming back. But we had previously noted that the park spent quite a bit of time, effort, and money to build a new inductive charging station on Buena Vista Street, so the trolleys could be charged on-stage during the day.

The Trolley track actually goes all the way into Avengers Campus. A pair of big doors in Avengers HQ opens up to allow the trolley to access the park. Though we don’t expect the Trolleys to have a stop in Avengers Campus during regular park hours.

A wireless charging system was embedded into the pavement in front of the Buena Vista Street trolley stop, allowing the cars to charge up while loading and unloading guests.

The classic-looking Red Cars will add some much-needed kinetic visual energy to the park. But they are also a symbol of the Disneyland Resort’s increasing push to return things to normal as quickly as possible to help keep the positive attendance momentum going.
