A Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge pop-up opened yesterday in Disney Springs, and we got a sneak peek just as it prepared to open to the public. Here’s a look at the Virtual Reality experience perfect for any Star Wars fan and some information about LucasFilm’s ILMxLAB!
ILMxLAB

ILMxLAB is the Lucasfilm immersive entertainment studio producing interactive storytelling with virtual and mixed reality. Through the Meta Quest Virtual Reality headsets, you can enter the world of Star Wars. Available games include Vader Immortal, Star Wars Pinball, and the preview experience Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge.
Preview experience at Disney Springs
The Meta Quest ILMxLAB VR Experience is located in the West Side section of Disney Springs. The building is what was briefly the ESPN Experience. There is very little signage for the experience, so be on the lookout, if there isn’t signage added, it may be hard to find.

The entrance and queue include ads for Quest and the Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge.

ILMxLAB’s Virtual Reality Meta Quest Demo Experience

You enter a gaming area and after a brief intro to the Meta Quest VR equipment, you are ready to go. Don your headset and grip the controllers as you step into Batuu on the edge of the Black Spire Outpost.

You find yourself in Seezelslak’s cantina where you can meet Mubo and Seezelslak (Bobby Moynihan) himself. Take a look around, have a snack, play some music and check out the Black Spire Outpost from a unique perspective. You may even find some Easter eggs from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, like a spork from Docking Bay 7.

You can even test your skills with Repulsor Darts and play the chromarimba. I wasn’t much of a VR dart player, but it helps get you acquainted with the controllers. If it is an adventure you seek, go outside Black Spire Outpost to the wilds of Batuu. This is where the excitement begins, select your weapons and set off on a search for the Guavian Death Gang. While I did encounter some of the gang, I did not make it to the leader, Tara Rashin (Debra Wilson).

While the preview is only 10 minutes, the game itself can last 10 hours. The preview will leave Star Wars fans wanting more. Upon completion of the demo preview, you will receive giveaways as well as a credit to use on games and experiences on the Quest Store while supplies last.

Guests who visit Disney Springs on May 4th and experience the Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge will receive an exclusive poster, while supplies last.
Meta Quest VR Experience is available daily through July 21, from 12:00pm to 10:00p at Disney Springs for a hands-on 10-minute complimentary preview. As the game is rated T for Teens; leave the younglings behind, as you must be 13 to experience this adventure.
