Bursting with comforting nostalgia, Disneyland’s new Main Street Electrical Parade merchandise is the stuff of collector’s dreams. And since Disneyland is not only celebrating the return of their Nighttime Spectaculars but also the 50th anniversary of the parade, they put a lot of effort into making the collection expansive, containing tons of merchandise as well as premium novelty goods. Many of the items were previewed prior to the Main Street Electrical Parade’s opening day on April 22 but then Disney surprised us with even more fun commemorative goodies… But beware, they are all going fast.
Get your wallets ready as we take a look at the Main Street Electrical Parade merchandise and novelty buckets and sippers!
Electrical Parade Merchandise – What’s Here and What’s Not
The collection of merchandise is impressively robust, including apparel, accessories, toys, pins, and more. Unfortunately, not all of the items were in stock on opening day and as of April 25, have still not arrived. There were still plenty of goodies for collectors to purchase, however.
[Note: This merchandise is extremely popular and may sell out temporarily. Keep checking back as Disney intends to continue to replenish its supply through the end of Summer.]
What Was Available on Opening Day
This Ear Headband from Loungefly features glow-in-the-dark art on both sides of each “ear.” The front side has Elliott the dragon and Mickey while the back shows the train float and the logo created for the 50th anniversary of the Main Street Electrical Parade.
The themed Disney Dress Shop Dress has glow-in-the-dark accents in the print.
Hidden art magically appears when hot water is poured inside this mug.
There were a number of pins created to honor the parade. There was one starring Elliott and another with images of multiple floats on different pieces that fold together. Additionally, there was a jumbo pin of the new “it’s a small world”-inspired finale float (not pictured).
The Wishables Main Street Electrical Parade Series was extra-special not only because it was just plain adorable but also because each plush glowed in the dark. There were four designs (not counting the chase) in the mystery bag: Goofy’s Train Parade Float, Twinkling Turtle Parade Float, Lightning Bug Parade Float, and Mickey’s Drum Parade Float. The standalone plush was the Elliott Parade Float.
The Elliott plush was my favorite of the Electrical Parade merchandise available. He was covered with shimmery fabric and had a commemorative patch on his left foot.
And while the human-sized Spirit Jersey was a “no-show,” this Spirit Jersey created for pets made it in time for opening day. The embossed design on the back has glow-in-the-dark elements.
Also available was a sound-activated light-up novelty necklace with each bulb shaped like those found on the original Electrical Parade floats.
What We are Still Waiting For
The two most notable missing products were the Loungefly Mini Backpack and the Spirit Jersey (for humans, not pets). I lost count of how many people had asked Cast Members about those items.
In a bizarre turn of events, Walt Disney World has already received (and started selling) this Mini Backpack as well as the matching Ear Headband.
There is a large amount of merchandise that Disney previously teased that has yet to materialize.
Elliott Popcorn Buckets, Turtle Sippers, and Other Novelty Goods
Of equal (if not more) importance to many guests were the themed novelty goods, especially the Elliott Bucket and Turtle Sipper.
The Elliott Bucket is shaped like the float of the dragon from the parade. It is an impressively big bucket with a large cavity in its body to hold things. Flip a switch on the bottom of the whole thing lights up! It also comes with a lanyard attached to help carry the hefty guy.
Like the Elliott Bucket, the Turtle Sipper is fashioned after a float from the Main Street Electrical Parade and has a light-up feature (via button this time instead of a switch). The sipper’s straw folds down into the turtle’s shell. It comes with the same lanyard as the Elliott Bucket.
This Lightbulb Sipper arrived a little late to the party and was first sold on April 24. It lights up while cycling through several colors.
The Opening Day Rush
The charm of the Main Street Electrical Parade merchandise is so strong that it caused quite a bit of chaos when it was released on April 22.
Crowds immediately descended upon the Emporium and Disney Showcase. I was among the first guests into the Emporium and it was a circus there! At one point, I saw guests grabbing past the register to get to Wishables mystery bags even though the Cast Members were in process of stocking them on the nearby display (which in seconds was picked clean).
Disney Showcase, a much smaller space than the Emporium, didn’t fare any better. And to make matters worse, the line snaked around the outside of the shop!
And the lines weren’t limited to just merchandise. The queues for those hoping to snag an Elliott Bucket or Turtle Sipper were dauntingly long.
On the morning of opening day, the line to Refreshment Corner, one of the quick service dining locations to sell both the bucket and sipper, reached beyond Carnation Cafe.
And the popcorn carts! Many dedicated guests waited more than an hour to get their hands on the Elliott Bucket. Many carts had lines with multiple switchbacks, taking hours to get to the front. There were, however, substantially shorter lines farther from Main Street, USA.
Tips on Acquiring These Beauties
Have a strong desire for the Ear Headband? Absolutely have to add that Elliott Bucket to your collection? Here’s some advice to help you score your “must-haves:”
Keep Checking Stores for Merchandise!
Even though, as of April 24, the majority of the merchandise is currently out-of-stock (only the dress, Elliott plush, and Pet Spirit Jersey remain), don’t panic. We have heard that none of the merchandise is completely sold out and will continue to be restocked over the course of the Summer. It may also be a good idea to keep checking stores throughout the day because Cast Members will periodically replenish goods.
Inside Disneyland Park, the bulk of the Main Street Electrical Parade merchandise can be found at the Emporium and Disney Showcase. However, smaller stores may also have a few items, like the hat stall across from Storybookland that had the Ear Headband in stock. Over Disney California Adventure, you can find themed goods at Elias & Co. And Downtown Disney stocks Electrical Parade items at World of Disney, Disney Dress Shop, and Wonderground Gallery.
shopDisney is an Option
If you are enamored with the many items dedicated to the returning parade but don’t see yourself making it to the Resort until after Summer, there is still hope. shopDisney also has a few items listed online. Other items will likely be added as they become available. Loungefly posted that their Mini Backpack will be listed on shopDisney “soon.”
Here is the Electrical Parade merchandise currently available on shopDisney. On opening day, the Wishables mystery bag was also listed but is no longer available so act fact if one or more of these items interest you.
- Wishables Main Street Electrical Parade Series Elliott Plush ($14.99)
- Main Street Electrical Parade Elliott Medium Size Plush ($29.99)
- Main Street Electrical Parade 50th Anniversary Limited Release Folding Pin ($29.99)
Use Mobile Order and Check Other Locations for Novelty Goods
In an interesting twist, mobile ordering from many of the quick-service restaurants was an option for acquiring the Elliott Bucket and Turtle and Lightbulb Sippers. Mobile ordering is typically available 30 minutes before the park opens. It is important to note that not all mobile order locations have all (or any) novelty items and that if a timeslot doesn’t let you select the item you are looking for but it is listed in their menu, try a different time slot.
And for those insisting on acquiring an Elliott Bucket from a popcorn cart, many guests’ first instincts are to go to the first popcorn cart they can find which leads to huge lines at the carts on Main Street, USA. There are popcorn carts throughout Disneyland Park, and many had much shorter lines than the ones at Town Square and the Hub. Your best bet for shorter lines is to continue past the carts on Main Street, USA, and head to the farther ends of the park, such as the one near “it’s a small world.”
