Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights will be filled with nightmarish delights in 2022. The event is held in Universal Parks all over the world, but we’ll focus on the Orlando Resort in this guide. We have lots of details for you below, including six original new haunted houses. The uber-popular event is celebrating its 31st year in Orlando. Since the 31st anniversary ties in nicely with October 31st, the date of Halloween, you’ll find undertones of classic Halloween traditions throughout the event… Here’s your guide to Halloween Horror Nights Orlando 2022.

Halloween Horror Nights Orlando 2022 – Overview

Universal Orlando’s event will run for a record 43 nights from September 2nd through October 31st this year. 

HHN 2022 will offer 10 haunted houses, 5 scare zones, 2 live shows, a highly-themed merchandise “Tribute Store“, and favorite HHN food and drinks. 

Halloween Horror Nights 2022 – Haunted Houses

There are 10 haunted houses at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando, and we finally know the theme for all of them. This season is shaping up to be a big win for creativity, especially with 6 new original houses! Here are all the announced haunted houses:

THE WEEKND: AFTER HOURS NIGHTMARE

Ladies and gentlemen, The Weeknd. Halloween Horror Nights has teamed up with award-winning artist The Weeknd to bring an all-new terrifying haunted house based on his “After Hours” album – which has spawned multiple chart-topping hits including Too Late, Heartless, In Your Eyes, and Blinding Lights.

Select tracks are going to be reimagined as an eerie horror movie soundtrack. Step into a living nightmare filled with grotesque characters and themes inspired by The Weeknd’s music and short films. You’ll be stalked by slashers, bandaged maniacs, and gruesome toad-like creatures. 

Survive the night while trapped within the terrifying, unexpected world of “The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare” – a place that only exists in The Weeknd’s vivid imagination and from which one may never escape. Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye shared, “I always wanted my own Halloween Horror Nights haunted house as Halloween has always been significant to my music, so this is a total dream come to life. I feel like my music videos have served as a launching pad for a collaboration like this, and I cannot wait for people to experience this madness!”

THE HORRORS OF BLUMHOUSE

This year’s Blumhouse maze features two films: Freaky and The Black Phone. This is one of three themed houses that will be shared between both the Orlando and Hollywood events.

In The Black Phone, “The Grabber” is a demented magician best known for his sinister trick of making people disappear… permanently. You’ll find yourself trapped in his “fun” house where the sound of ghostly voices whisper hints on how to escape, but you must tread carefully to outwit and outrun “The Grabber’s” twisted magic.

Freaky will challenge you to outrun serial killer “The Butcher” who has switched bodies with a high school girl after being cursed by The La Dola Dagger, an ancient Aztec blade. Looks can be deceiving as you encounter the sweet-looking teen who is actually “The Butcher” – and she is determined to hunt for their next victims.

HALLOWEEN

Step into the original 1978 classic, Halloween. Set for both Universal Orlando and Hollywood, this year’s harrowing experience will transport guests to the infamous town of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night, when Michael Myers first donned his notorious mask to embark on his brutal rampage. You’ll make your way through Michael’s dilapidated home and iconic scenes from the film, narrowly dodging attacks from the knife-wielding Myers as he stalks your every move. Silent. Merciless. Relentless. He’s the embodiment of pure evil.

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: LEGENDS COLLIDE

Both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando will be getting in on the classic Monsters action. The monstrous triple threat of The Wolf Man, Dracula, and The Mummy will be resurrected for one harrowing haunted house.

This bi-coastal experience will transport guests to the 19^th century with the trio of monsters seeking one thing: The Amulet of Ra. The Wolf Man believes this ancient relic contains the power to finally lift his dreaded curse, while Dracula and The Mummy have nefarious plans to use it to bring humankind to its knees. With the full moon on the rise and a race against time, guests find themselves entangled in a bloodthirsty battle between the terrifying titans – and only one will survive.

Universal Orlando Original Haunted Houses

In addition to the four headlining IP houses, Universal Orlando has concocted 6 all-new original houses for 2022:

In SPIRITS OF THE COVEN, you’re invited to a 1920s speakeasy… A coven of seemingly beautiful flapper witches will lure those who enter into a hidden brewing area. Once they’ve ensnared their victims, they’ll reveal their haggish true form and turn guests into a witch’s brew. They’ll be cackling; everyone else will be screaming.

Upon touring a 1950s home of the future, face a putrid, skin-crawling infestation of spiders, roaches, flies, bees as a failed pest control system has unleashed them. Those who enter will be dropping like flies in BUGS: EATEN ALIVE.

The mountains of Latin America are filled with many wonderful traditions. In one tiny village, they pay tribute to the legendary creature Chupacabras with an annual fiesta. In FIESTA DE CHUPACABRAS, there’s more to the legend than meets the eye. And in this colorful village, the streets are lined with the crimson blood of visitors.

In HELLBLOCK HORROR, survive visiting hours in a secret penitentiary that houses treacherous monsters and fiends of all kinds that are hell-bent on taking over and destroying the world. The interdimensional power core containing the inmates has failed and the monsters are breaking out of their cells.

A phantom sea captain is summoning undead fishermen from their watery grave, a grisly crew with rotting, barnacle-encrusted bodies. Guests may have escaped their hooks in the Dead Man’s Wharf scare zone in 2016 – now they’d better batten down the hatches before they’re reeled in and drug under in DEAD MAN’S PIER: WINTER’S WAKE.

And in DESCENDANTS OF DESTRUCTION, venture below a toxic city, in a post-apocalyptic subway system. Hideous creatures who’ve long ago left their humanity behind prey on all who try to make their way through the darkness. The deeper you go, the darker your fate.

Halloween Horror Nights 31 – Scare Zones

There’s nowhere to hide as hordes of menacing creatures from Halloween’s past infiltrate the streets of Universal Studios Florida in five all-new scare zones.

In HORRORS OF HALLOWEEN, encounter The Pumpkin Lord (from last year’s popular Wicked Growth: Realm of the Pumpkin house) and all his devious subjects.

Reap the wrath of scarecrows who will stop at nothing to harvest souls in SCARECROW: CURSED SOIL

Experience a terrifying 1950s Halloween parade-gone-wrong alongside bloodthirsty trick-or-treaters in SWEET REVENGE

Venture through an ominous Halloween thunderstorm within a ghastly cemetery in GRAVEYARD: DEADLY UNREST

And escape an evil sorceress bringing forth an army of ravenous monstrosities in CONJURE THE DARK

Halloween Horror Nights 31 – Entertainment & Tribute Store

Just in case you need a break from the scares, stop and shop in the elaborately themed Tribute Store, or take in the two new live shows:

The scares taking root in the streets of Universal Studios Florida will bleed into the theme of the Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store with a collection of incredibly detailed environments inspired by the iconic Halloween haunts featured throughout the event. Shop the latest HHN merchandise and treats as you venture through a Pumpkin Patch, Cemetery, and Witch’s Cottage, eventually making your way to the final room… a Halloween festival set in the same town as the store’s neighboring scare zone, Sweet Revenge! 

And now, onto the entertainment! Halloween Nightmare Fuel Wildfire – the sequel to last year’s fan-favorite “Halloween Nightmare Fuel” show featuring the world-famous performance group, The Fuel Girls – highlighting a new Dreamer in the depths of a new nightmare set to a heart-pounding metal, rock and electronica score. 

As darkness falls, Ghoulish! A Halloween Tale will light up the Universal Studios lagoon, following the Grim Reaper on the undertaking of what happens beyond the grave – all set to eerily-remixed music by some of today’s most iconic artists.
