It might not sound like a big thing, but it’s an important day symbolically at the Disneyland Resort as trams once again start rolling (Feb 23rd). And while guests will certainly be happy that they won’t have to walk the mile from the parking structure to the front gate, it’s really about more than that. This week symbolizes the return to mostly normal operation for the parks. Trams are back, spectacular entertainment is returning, guests no longer need to wear masks, another restaurant is returning (Boardwalk Pizza), the Food and Wine Festival opens next week, and the parks are consistently busy (even on weekdays). AND, 30,000 cast members are now on the job with constant job fairs and staffing initiatives going on. Things are really moving again in a much more normal way.
13 trams will be running today in normal park operation.
Ken Potrock, President of Disneyland Resort, and Nataly Guzman, Disney Ambassador, got the ball rolling with a short ceremony, followed by Disney Cast taking the first spin on the refurbished trams.
Ken invites the cast to take a photo.
In a conversation we had with the resort president this morning, he called this “the return to better.” Not quite normal, but getting very close. He’s looking forward to returning character experiences to closer to their normal experience, doing more festivals and events, and getting everything reopened.
Here’s some video from the ceremony and as cast step aboard…
Cleared for Dispatch
We’ve been reporting on resurfacing of the tram route, and late-night testing of the tram vehicles for weeks now. But as of February 23rd, guests can actually begin riding them again.

Getting the trams ready to roll wasn’t an easy task. Due to sitting idle for nearly two years, they required considerable maintenance. Crews had to be rehired, retrained, and certified. And the tram route itself was given a little extra work with some repaving and sensors placed under the asphalt.
