Breaking news: Walt Disney World has suspended sales of all but its lowest-tier annual pass. From information we’ve gathered, all but the “Pixie Dust Pass” (a Florida resident pass with the most blockout dates) are currently unavailable for purchase. The website for purchasing passes was down at the time of our publication, with a message reading that the page was being updated.
UPDATED: Later in the morning, the page was updated with a simple statement that sales had been paused and that passes do not guarantee admission into the theme parks:
We believe the new sales suspension will not affect annual pass renewals, but we are waiting for clarification from Disney.
This current suspension of pass sales has likely been implemented due to the decreasing number of park reservations available for passholders. Prior to this decision, no park reservations were available to any guests for the entire week of Thanksgiving, and it looks like December (and the winter holidays) are shaping up to face the same issue, with large expected crowds.
While this is most definitely sad news to those who may have been looking forward to attending the parks on a newly purchased pass for the holidays, or were looking to purchase a pass as a holiday gift for someone, it might not be altogether unexpected. Last month Disneyland suspended the sale of their top-tier Magic Key, with no signs of its expected return. And The Walt Disney Company has always maintained that they could suspend ticket and pass sales at any time.
