Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland Park will soon begin testing the use of a hybrid virtual and standby queue, similar to how WEB: Slingers works in California Adventure.
Starting Monday, November 22, the ride will implement a standby queue for the first time since it opened in January 2020. The attraction will start off each day by using a standby queue only and will utilize the virtual queue boarding group system just when needed. So on certain days and times, you may still use a virtual queue, but only when needed. The virtual queue drops that were previously held at 7 am and 12 pm will not be in effect during the standby queue test.
Guests should keep an eye on the Disneyland app prior to 7 am of the day they’re visiting to ensure the attraction isn’t using the virtual queue that day. Be aware that Disneyland may start or stop the virtual queue at any time as they work out how to determine the best operating strategy.
During the test, if a virtual queue is needed, guests would have to physically be in Disneyland Park to join the virtual queue via the Disneyland app.
This switch in operation is similar to what was done with Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios over at Walt Disney World just before the launch of Disney Genie and Lightning Lane. At Walt Disney World, the attraction operated with mainly a standby line (using the virtual queue only on super busy days) until the rollout of Genie+ in the park. With this new system being “tested” now at Disneyland, it is probably safe to assume that Disney Genie and Genie+ (including Lighting Lane) will be coming to Disneyland very soon.
Rise of the Resistance will be an extra cost Lightning Lane attraction once Genie launches.
