The Rocketeer. Who remembers this one? The movie did modestly well when it was released in 1991, but has since become a bit of a cult classic.
Set in 1938 Los Angeles, California, The Rocketeer tells the story of stunt pilot Cliff Secord who stumbles upon a hidden rocket-powered jet pack that he thereafter uses to fly without the need of an aircraft. His heroic deeds soon attract the attention of Howard Hughes and the FBI, who are hunting for the missing jet pack, as well as the Nazi operatives that stole it from Hughes.
Well, this movie is getting a little extra love and recognition it deserves.
Funko Games is releasing a new strategy game, The Rocketeer: Fate of the Future. It’ll initially be available for sale at Gen Con, a table-top game convention in Indianapolis (September 16-19, 2021), before landing on store shelves later this fall.
Here’s a little description of the game’s story:
Trouble is brewing high above the city of angels! The mysterious Rocketeer—who can blast through the skies with an ingenious jet-pack—must stop a sinister plot! Hollywood actor Neville Sinclair is scheming to steal the rocket’s blueprints. This breakthrough of modern engineering could revolutionize the future of flight. But in Sinclair’s hands, it could fuel the dark future of warfare. Play as the heroes or the villains in this action-packed strategy game for two players. Whether for good or evil, you will determine the fate of the future! (MSRP $24.99, Ages 12+, 2 Players, 45 minute gameplay, Available Late-Fall 2021)
Opponents face off in a two-player game of cat-and-mouse as they work to keep the rocket plans hidden from each other. Tensions are tight through every turn as The Rocketeer and his allies try to evade Neville Sinclair with his band of thugs. This beautifully designed game with illustrations that evoke the 1930s is perfect for pop-culture lovers and strategy fans alike.
This game looks absolutely gorgeous, and I can’t wait to check it out!
