Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has been operating without its namesake “Spa” since the Mandara closed in 2019, but that’s about to change. Disneyland Resort hotel guests (staying at any of the three Disneyland hotels) can now book treatments at the new Tenaya Spa, which opens September 16th.

The Tenaya Stone Spa was inspired by the spirit of nature and Californian heritage. The name itself can be interpreted as meaning “to dream,” which the Imagineers hope is exactly what you’ll feel in this new luxurious setting. An actual real Tenaya stone is set in the entryway and was a gift from the Miwok tribe, descendants of Chief Tenaya in Yosemite Valley.

At opening, the new and much larger 6,000 square-foot Tenaya Stone Spa will offer massage therapies including a Tenaya Signature Massage, Tenaya River Stone Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, a Mother-To-Be Massage, and various herbal body treatments. There’s even a wild honey and mud treatment and a special foot massage to help heal the pain of walking around in a theme park all day (the “Mindful Traveler Foot Treatment”). The spa will also offer additional services at a later date.

The design of the spa is intended to have you look inward and seek balance and wellness.

“Tenaya Stone Spa embraces the concept of the natural order of four, found throughout many indigenous cultures of the world. There are four directions, four colors, four elements, four points of wellness. These bring balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit,” said Katrina Mosher, art director, Walt Disney Imagineering.

Every inch of the Tenaya Stone Spa is meticulously laid out according to the four directions of north, south, east, and west, and aligned with the four colors of white, red, black and yellow. Design touches include wood flooring cut into rounds, a chandelier designed from a tree root, stained-glass doors and windows, rocks and minerals, and art pieces crafted by regional artisans.

Even the wooden floors are exquisitely designed with with cross cut pieces that expose the rings in the slices.

But if there’s one thing we are most looking forward to, it’s the foot massage treatments. After a long day walking through the theme parks, we have a feeling that many weary travelers will snap these reservations up quickly.
