This is one of those don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-it sort of Disney items. The artists at Disney have recreated a nostalgic item from the opening day of Disneyland, a giant plush Mickey Mouse that Walt featured on the Dateline Disneyland broadcast from the park in 1955.

The figure has a stand modeled after the one the original is displayed up in the current Disney Archives Exhibit at Graceland

The new Engineer Mickey is wearing a red checkered shirt under denim overalls, red kerchief, and engineer cap, just like the original. He even includes a custom stand and Certificate of Authenticity and comes in a whimsical box designed to look like a crate.

On Disneyland Park’s opening day, July 17, 1955, Walt Disney made his grand entrance into Main Street Station at the controls of the Disneyland Railroad accompanied by his longtime partner Mickey Mouse. Engineer  Mickey, dressed in engineer’s overalls and cap,  was created especially for the opening of Disneyland Park and appeared with Walt Disney on the live television special “Dateline Disneyland” as well as in publicity photos in the days leading up to the Park’s dedication.
